Title: Racing lag?
Post by: Ryanoh4 on September 29, 2015, 06:21:20 PM
Just wondering if anyone has some information on racing online, like hitboxes or lag, does it work :)

Having a good racing line definitely works.... If your talking about using best line marker then I would suggest learn a circuit on your own as it will learn you a lot more about the racing line of a track than what you would learn from a best-line marker, after all, you wouldn't get a best line in real life, right?  This is one of Piboso's strange qwerks in that he advocates a best line marker yet doesn't advocate a ghost rider to practice with(which I agree with not having a ghost rider by the way.). Lol ;D

Hit boxes? Do you mean braking points? If you mean braking points then everyones breaking points vary depending on their braking style.

Lag? Not sure what you mean there, unless your talking about slip-stream? Which does work(just a tad too well in my opinion. Lol ).  ;)

While I have no idea what this thread is about, a ghostrider for practicing alone would be really cool.

Why? You get lonely out there on track or something?  ;D

:-\ what i mean is when you are in a race online are the hitboxes or collisions bad e.g. do you collide with someone but on your screen you didn't? motogp13 through to 15 are like this.

Hit boxes are very good. Lag is only a problem once pings go above about 120 just like in any game.  There are netcode problems that cause online issues especially with dynamic tracks but these problems are being worked on. The game is a Beta so you must compromise your expectations, until V1.

This is very true.

When online check your ping (in the chat section, in garage) its the number next to your name.

Yes replays are a bit of a stuttery  ugliness too at the moment.

You guys have a problem with replay lag? Replays work fine for me.  :)

If you watch a replay from another persons perspective (say someone with a high ping) the replay has recorded the lagfest too. Ugly.

I'm not sure that is a problem Piboso can do anything about?

Maybe baby I don't know. :-\

But other racing games can remove the lag - coding 'gaps' - to reassemble a good replay, so it would be nice, if he could. :)

He said, making the replays less laggy is one aim for beta7.

Good point Vin! Fingers crossed  ;D

I still only want the critical items addressed really  :'(  oh and the exhaust smoke cos that is wicked!  :)

It will be interesting to see what Piboso can do about the laggy replay for high ping users, but I honestly cannot see that he can speed up long distant pings..... The only thing he could do is optimise the network data flow rates allowing some higher ping users a better playing experience and therefore a better replay experience?

I just hope it's not the PUT PUT smoke effect that was demonstrated in his initial video...... That smoke flow didn't look very realistic in my opinion and I did mention that to Piboso at the time, so I hope he has improved it since? But any type of smoke effect would certainly be better than none at all.  :)

Strangely, for me the ping doesn't matter. Even if the other rider has an excellent ping, it's laggy for me in the replay.

That is strange Vin. Could be a rendering problem specific to your PC/Graphics settings ? I see lag when I choose to watch a known high ping player or a lot of replay lag if using dynamic functions (rain, grooves etc).

Agree Hawk. Actually I think this game handles high ping MUCH better than a lot of mainstream games!

Also this game handles replays in a way MUCH better than mainstream games too (in so much as the options and ability to choose the timeframe go). It lets itself down a little with the reconstruction of the replay - laggg in game need not be laggg in a replay.

So credit where due indeed - put put!  ;)

I recently changed my graphics card and the issues is still there. I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware problem.

As you said, large in-game lag doesn't make the game unplayable like it does in many other games, so that's great.

Nick, could you maybe record the start from the first 800cc race (A1 Ring) from my nose or tank camera and upload a short clip of it?
I really would like to see how you see the replay :D

I will have to check if I still have it Vin, I usually overwrite the replay from the previous event so it is probably long gone for me.

Will have a look later today.

I should still have the replay file somewhere in case you can't find it.
