The correct way to upload Videos and Screenshots, as well as commenting on them. Too many reposted pictures.

How do you upload a youtube video? I need to know.

The correct way to upload Videos and Screenshots
That's not a question for the GPB guide, it relates to forum usage.

In any case, you have to use the red button with an "f" and insert your youtube link.

If you quote a post with a video and you don't want the video to appear, just edit the quoted part.

How to upload a youtube video:
1. Get the link of the video (ex. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buUQZCGYRFQ)
2. Remove the 'watch?v=' and add v/ => new link looks like that:  http://www.youtube.com/v/buUQZCGYRFQ
3. Insert a flash object by clicking the red flash icon.
4. Insert your link in the flash object.
5. Edit the width and height (560,315)
6. Now your video is successfully embeded! :D

A couple of questions: the (first) ones that provide a correct reply wins a free copy of GPB+WRS (demo version only).

I've also put close to nothing in the Settings / Simulation / Freelook part: if you have any info ...

MaX.

P.S.
Piboso can participate too, but he will gently forfeit the prize :)

Hi Max,
I think PiBoSo only knows your 2 answers  :D

I would guess the Dash is to change dashboard display mode/option.
I have no idea what the help setting is.

As for Freelook, it is intended to change the view according to the moves of your body (mainly face).
In GPB, you have 3 options :
* 1 for using the mouse to control the view
* 1 for using your head (with FreeTrack (http://www.free-track.net/english/) >> http://forum.piboso.com/index.php?topic=159.msg871#msg871)

Apparently, you can also use TrackIR (http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/) by letting it emulate the mouse

  • In Settings, Input 2 tab: what is "Dash" for ?
  • In Settings, Misc tab: what is "Help" (On, Min, Off) for ?

I thought that the "Help" button was to turn on the visible starting point on as to where you should be on starting grid

Help on gives you a red arrow above your grid position in a race and help hints in the setting pages.
When starting a race and the sighting lap and warmup lap are active in the event info page you will see a red arrow above your grid position so you no where to start.
This caught me out the first time I stalled the bike on the grid forgetting to put the bike in neutral

Great work on your guide good detail one thing to mention
1.5.2.2 Settings/Input 2 tab: Controls / View / Gestures
Controls:
Low Speed: two buttons to have the rider "walk" the bike (forward and backward on the grid when forming up on a sighting and warmup lap).

I suggest you do a race start and you will see for yourself  I will do some screenshots next time I race. This will catch people out every time on there first race start

Mouse Look was clear, but what's the difference between Tracking and Face Tracking ?

I have help hints in the settings page always, no matter how I set the "Help" thing. Also, it has 3 settings, so it's still not clear what is removed in each setting.

I've done races (with sighting and warmup laps) and it's true that the low speed controls an be used there. However they can be used anytime (e.g. if you have troubles getting out of the pits or out of the grass/sand due to a bad respawn). I'll ass the grid example anyway, it's useful.

IT.IS.DONE.

Man, that was a long one.

Comments welcome. Really, any sort.

Soon I'll delete this topic, but you will still be able to PM the comments.

Time to attack the physics stuff now: at least this would be funnier :)

Just read some random parts of the manual. Great work you've done there, really essential for both the people just starting to play this game but for the more experienced as well. Ill soon take the time to read the whole thing and see if I can add some sensible comments to it.

Took another look at the guide just out of curiosity. Really great work, should be included as a mandatory read in the GPbikes install.

In the etiquette section I might have another addition: "When leaving the pit, give way (precedence) to riders already on track (passing the start/finish) in such a manner that they are in no way obstructed in their lap time"

Any time, happy to contribute

Now that I am getting started....

Section 1.6.2 - Remark that if you do not select the highest connection speed, you might not to see all the riders on the grid/track.

Section 4.4 - Maybe put a link to what race flags there are and what they mean. I don't know which flags are implemented in GP bikes but something like this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racing_flags will probably help the real noobs. At least we can then blame them for not reading the manual :)

Section 5.2 - When viewing a replay you can press the "spacebar" to hide the replay control interface.

Section 6.1 (4) I would add that this is only for viewing the conditions of the tyres, selecting another set there does not actually change the tyre set on the bike. (Something I found confusing first time I played GPbikes)

Ok thats all I could come up with. Just add what you think is useful.

Maybe an ADMIN could move this and the Unofficial Guide to its own Category entitled something like "New to GPBIkes? START HERE" or something?? Would help new people and save the same explanations over and over.

And these links could do with a tweak  ;) http://forum.piboso.com/index.php?topic=431.msg3002#msg3002

Here are my observations that I came to after I have spend some hours testing and discovering things and I think that every one who will be new to gp bikes should should know this to avoid frustration. I play on a XBOX One game pad and I found it very hard to ride stable, at all curves accelerations the bike was unstable, I got shimmy all the time and higsides what made me frustrated.

1) Be smooth. As the game pad has no any resistance that we meet irl physics all the sticks and triggers movement are translated to game directly. So if I go back to upright position by releasing the stick it comes too fast and makes the bike very unstable wobbling very often. The same thing happened to throttle when I pressed it too quick it caused the bike fly in to the air. If for anyone being smooth is still to hard there are lots of input configurations in settings that will smoothen the stick/triggers movements to help out.
2) What is simulated in this game. I couldn't find direct information how tyres warm up (should i do it or not or for how long), asphalt grip changes depending on temperature, do the dirt when going of the track affect the grip?
3) If anyone miss any force feedback install MaxHUD and activate it. It also helped me a lot to better feel the bike.
