Title: Leg swag?
Post by: badexample69 on September 13, 2017, 05:43:35 AM
Pibo bros,  Since you just added the little dab ( I love it, aka the training wheels), are you planning to add the leg dangle move for balance on hard braking?  8) I know it is not the sexiest thing in racing but f**k the haters!

disagree. i think it's a cool element of style. but i think there should be an option like 'dab speed' in mxsim which allow to vary conditions when this happens depending on personal favor (if everyone will be doing that in every corner this may look stupid)

That would be a great addition to keep the bike composed on hard braking .. I would like to see it as an option too no defaulted. It would add involvement from the players and realism to the game than just being in the tucked position.

But then, you can not use the rear brake or shift, while the leg is out, for the realism

Would be good for some modern rider realism, but it needs to be implemented with an on/off option setting in the settings menu in my opinion. Not everyone will want to be dangling their leg out. Lol.  ;D

Should have two options IMO. Something like that the L / R rider lean but manual or automatic.

Another option could be that it is linked to the rider lean. According to the rider lean side when pressing a button hang the leg. Obviously the leg should stop the bike lean.

Not for all the bikes Multi :)  Rear Thumb Brake FTW

Well, I would imagine it could be quite difficult to manually shift, brake, steer and put the lag out at the same time... But if the lag comes out automatically, there would not be a problem :)

Please note that the dangling leg effect is in progress, but that it will be visual only and automatic.

I presume it will have it's own riding style and not be implemented on all other rider styles?

Nice but what's the reason for not including a manual control option?
A bit disappointed about that to be honest. The thumbstick buttons on gamepads would be perfect for that purpose since you tense up and increase pressure on the pad automatically anyhow when you're running a bit hot into a corner.

edit: Depending on whether the rider is leaning left or right, the correct leg would be chosen automatically, so that you only need one button for manual control.

I'm with Lorenzo.... It looks pathetic....
Leg dangling is such an ugly riding style and should be banished the same as the wings have. :P

If it give a rider the confidence to do what they do. Let them, but there is a limit

The Moto GP lot arn't to bad but if you look at Leon Haslam in BSB this year he almost sticks his leg out sideways and uses it as a block.

Still, If they lose a leg because they get hit then that's their fault :P

I'd ban it: the line between "I use it  because it makes me more comfortable" and "I use it because it blocks my opponent" is too thin and blurred.

BSB racing is just awesome! Probably the best racing out there! Tracks are tight and nasty just like the weather most of the time. All the bikes look great. That Anvil Yamaha! Are you serious? It is so delicious! Superstock also have good racing. WSBK is the Rea VS Davies show and they keep adding new restrictions every year. Like WTF? MotoGP is all drama but love Moto2.

How would you know if you're leg is dangling if you're riding first person?

I think we should add a thumbs up gesture to signal to another rider when we think they had a particularly stylish leg dangle.

Why would you want to know ? If, as said, it's fully automated and eye-candy only, there's really no need to know, no ?
and if it's manually activated, then you'll need to press a button, so yeah, you'll know ;)

I think the data analysts came to the conclusion that it doesn't make a difference in braking distance for the riders. It's just a comfort thing, so there is no need to simulate the leg dangle physically.
Title: Re: Leg swag?

Personally I think that if there was any scientific benefit from leg dangling other than a rider sh*tting himself that the front-end was about to break away then it would have been discovered a long long time ago. All this talk about it having braking and weight-shift advantages going into corners is just the biggest crock of crap I've ever heard. Lol! ;D

The only admirable thing about this is that they don't need electronics to do it.... Or maybe they do? Lol! :P ;D

Id rather be able to race than have a leg dangle.

With the last beta we seem to ha e gained a massive amount of online stability (apart from a select few) but we have gained a game breaking bug. That should be more of a prioriry than leg dangle.

Im not saying it wouldnt be nice (i do like the idea) and theres no reason why we cant have both for the next beta. Heres hoping ;D

If the leg dangle assists with breaking, how do they use the rear brake when the right leg dangles??

They don't :) And they didn't even before the arrival of leg dangling. Rear brake is not used for breaking before a turn

On MotoGP bikes they use a thumb-rear wheel brake. So they brake with the thumb, rather then the right foot

Rear break is almost usless in heavy breaking as the rear wheel is/is almost off the floor.

Not all of them use a thumb brake I think.  Anyway, thumb or foot, you don't use rear brake for hard braking at all.
As said, wheel is already mostly off ground and, anyway, you have so much engine brake that ...

But.. Max.. if the rear wheel is off the floor how does the engine brake work? ???
Title: Re: Leg swag?
Post by: matty0l215 on September 25, 2017, 08:47:09 PM
It's just not used as much. Breaks are a lot more effecient way of slowing down. It is predictable (to a degree) and controlable.

Still, it can be used. It's up to the rider but when they are breaking so hard they are picking the rear wheel up, generally engine breaking has already been and gone as a slowing force (a major one anyway).

In the olden [Mick Doohan & Kevin Schwantz] days the rear brake was used to quash wheelies and excessive wheel spin...

It works as much as possible, when the rear ha still some force on it. In the past it was common to see the rear hop, jump up and down due to too much engine brake being applied vs the load on the rear tyre, less visible today.

Problem is, front brakes are so strong (and tyres so grippy) that the limit is given by the bike wanting to turn around the front wheel lifting the rear.

Rear brake is to control wheelies, correct mid-turn trajectories and control turn exit (even if, most of this, is probably done better by AW and TC).
Very personal to each rider. In the 500cc era, almost nobody was using it I think (there's a quote of Schwantz saying "the only time I tried it, I nearly crashed. No thx.").

Anyway with the gpbikes Engine brake + Rear brake bug (the bikes behave as if you switch to neutral gear when you downshift and rear brake at the same time) rear brake is useless. Personnaly i use rear brake only when i go too wide to slide a little bit and correct trajectory !

Gearbox/clutch bug, yeah.
