Title: Multiplayer problems survey
Post by: PiBoSo on February 22, 2018, 10:57:15 PM
For those who have multiplayer crashes, please answer a few questions:
1) What operative system are you using?
2) What controller are you using?
3) Have you applied the ( infamous ) LAA Hack?
4) Have you tried an event at Victoria with stock bikes only?

Everyone else, an important suggestion:
server administrators should always remember to limit the allowed categories as much as possible, to limit the loading times and, more importantly, the memory usage.

I've been helping diagnose with several people and I can say this about your questions, from my point of view -

1/. Windows 10 mostly but a new guy has the same issue with win8
2/. I got MCF to test with keyboard only
3/. Crashes with and without it using stock bikes only (shouldn't need LAA on stock track and bikes right?)
4/. I setup a server running only stock bikes at Victoria for MCF to test on after a fresh install and no mods, it still crashed.

1. Is there anyone using Windows 10 with no problems?
2. That was a long shot on my side... If it works offline, it should work online, too
3. Right, the LAA hack is not needed for stock bikes and track
4. Darn, this bug will be VERY tough to crack :(

To answer your first question: I'm using windows 10 and used several gpbikes versions the last 2 years on my laptop and I think the beta 13 is the most stable so far. It hasn't been completely core free. I had only 3 core's since beta 13 came out.

Post by: teeds on February 23, 2018, 12:09:27 PM
Yes, I use Windows 10 as do many others with no problems. In fact since b13 GPBikes has never been so stable for me and from what I hear most others too, maybe 1 or 2 cores in many many hours of online play.

I think you should not consider windows 10 as a whole thing, since each build of windows 10  is hugely different. Yesterday i've lost almost all my personnal data after windows 10 update, which didn't recognize my data partition .....

Another odd factor is that the game works fine for all experiencing this issue offline, just online is affected. This points to connectivity issues right? But we have an example where one player has the problem and one does not in the same house using the same router and connection etc.

Happens on win8 too though, not that a particular version of any windows might be to blame of course.

Because most of those who have the core problem is new user, i think you should also check if something had been changed in the online liscence checking Mr Pib

Also is there perhaps any kind of additional game logging you can provide to those with the issue?

That should rule out connection problems.
Is the crash experienced even when alone on track, with no one connecting?

We also checked, if there is a diffrence between LAN and WIFI, but crashes with both... The odd thing is, that we tried it 1. on my PC (connected via Powerline) and 2. with my Laptop (connected via WIFI and LAN), but it crashed on both. Maybe a problem with the license?

Edit: I also could record something via Nvidia Shadowplay and pu it on YouTube, so you maybe this helps you @Mr P

Thank you for the offer.
It would be useful if you could replicate the bug using a stock bike on Victoria.
Can you make GP Bikes crash even hosting a local server?

Just a little question : What about Game mode under W10 ? Was it activated ?

Other thing : i experienced core crashes when using a product such as Msi Afterburner or EVGA Precision X, not all the time but most of.
Do you use a software like that ?

Is it possible that the crashes are related to a software that keeps monitoring or stealing information from the Os during the core.exe execution ??

Now it's the Quest time, almost the Graal Quest, Mr P is going to find out !

I don't run msi afterburner or evga precision the only thing running is NVidia surround as I run triple screens and before anyone askes yes I have tried it on single screen and it still crashes, so that ain't it.

I think you said somewhere you were running in the DMZ but did you try port forwarding the necessary anyway? Something rings a bell from the Dark Ages.

Also I expect you have tried shutting off firewalls and antivirus and definitely popped your head out of any VPN?

With your sons PC off does that make any difference to your problem?

Just ideas while PiB is thinking.

Thank you.

The install doesn't really look fresh, though, because of the missing rider when going to track the first time.
Please try deleting all the files in "My Documents"/PiBoSo/GP Bikes/ ( except for license.ini ).

Also: do you always have the best line enabled?

Windows 10 Professional - Had a core the other evening out of the blue on the back side of Victoria with seven or eight other people on the track at the same time. The core happened in the middle of a BIG crash so I have attributed it to either a controller issue, a display memory issue [the computer had not been rebooted for a couple of weeks and I had both Solid Edge and Solidworks running in the background, yeah, I know, dumb], or an internet connectivity issue [lights were flickering during a heavy rainstorm]. b13 has been very stable thus far both on and off line.

Win 10 home
Xbox 360
Applied LAA hack
No just Moto 2

After Piboso asked about what controller we were using it got me thinking so I went into services and disabled all the Xbox services (one is left on)
And I turned off all the Microsoft shit like Cortana Gaming bar game dvr  back ground apps in privacy.(lots of stuff on youtube on what to do )
And now I can play online again. ;D at Johor with one other player.
Will try a more populated server when I can find one.

These settings were all turned off before I did a refresh of windows, and I had forgot to change them back.
I was unable to do more than 2 laps on line before I had a core exe.
I Disabled the Xbox Accessory management service/live Auth manager/live game save/live networking service.(right window)
Turned off all background apps in privacy and all the Microsoft windows 10 spying settings.
I have not tested with a full server so will update when I have.

Windows 8.1
Wired xbox 360 controller
Yes
Yes and it still crashes.

Resintalled Windows very recently - didn't help.
Tried running online by hosting a local server with stock bikes - didn't help
Tried running online with moto 2 - didn't help.
Tried running in compatibility mode for windows XP, Vista and 8 - didn't help.

The few cores that I had before mine sorted its self out were on track or with another bike passing.
Piboso when did you personal last have a core I am guessing you have a very good computer and a fast internet connection,
your operating in ideal conditions.
Maybe you need to grab your laptop or that dusty old computer in the corner and go to a friends house with bad internet or find a bad WiFi connection and try a reproduce a core,
so you give yourself something to work with, try and create a situation that some of us experience.

My core crashes hapenned both on and off track. One of the patterns i noticed, was that it used to happen mainly when I was braking heavily. Not always, but most of the times.

At Johor_NDS I have core.exe crashes after syncing process. Online: 5 attempts = 5 core.exe crashes. Offline 50% core.exe crashes, 50% it works.
At Victoria I had 0 problems on- or offline.

BR Olaf

Edit 10 minutes later: After decreasing the replay buffer from 400 to 300 it seems to work offline.
But online I get a new problem. I get immediately "Connection timeout" if I click at Race and then at World.
Maybe it's a Server handling Problem, but I see servers with participants at piboso.com/Servers.
done: I saved gpbikes.ini as gpbikes.txt
