Oh thank you Phathry,

hopefully it will be fixed in the next beta. :)

Bug Reports / Problem with beam suspension
November 19, 2017, 01:45:25 AM
Hello,

while testing the beam suspension at the rear axle I found a odd behavior. The linkages (the yellow lines in physics debug mode) seem not to be working. The hub is allways moving parallel to the shock_bodylink and shock_axlelink  (the red line). I also tested the sl_rd (Caterham) with nonsense values for linkage_axlelinks (attached picture) and the car is driving like before. With the standard sl_rd the linkage2_axlelink and linkage3_axlelink (wich should be and stay in one position) are moving when the suspension compresses.

Is the linkage_bodylink the pivot point of the rear suspension or do I get this wrong?

During testing online on Saturday with beta11, this bug still happend.

We disconnect from Server so it restarts.

Steven and me will also join tonight.

It's working, thank you. :)

Thank you for the quick reply. Unfortunately it's still not working. First of all, is there a typing error in:

- "cockpit/gauges/analog_scene" for the analog gauges
Should it say "cockpit/gauges/speed_analog/scene" for analog speed?
I tried a LCD with "cockpit/gauges/lcd/scene and scene=1 and this is working.

Hi PiBoSo,
in the last beta of GPB it was possible to mount gauges to the steer.
It's not working anymore. The needle stays in its original position. I already tried to put it in the chassis and that's working.
Did something change in the .gfx-file structure?

Tried 'edge split' and it does appear to work as a fix but makes a mess of the base model creating loads of loose faces.  :(
you don't have to apply the modifier in Blender. Just set "Apply Modifiers" when exporting.

Hi,

it's for collision
;D

box0 = 0, 0.35, 0.02, 1.8, 0.7, 3.26, 0, 0
-->
"0":      position (left/right)
"0.35": position (up/down)
"0.02": position (front/rear)
"1.8":   width
"0.7":   height
"3.26": length
not sure about the last two values, but I think it's the rotation of the box.

I found my mistake. I forgot to change the KeeperSpring value in the .CFG file. Now it works much better.

Hi,
I also have a problem with the suspension. When the car is standing still, the front suspension compresses to much (about half of spring lentgh). It makes no big difference, if I set the spring to 75 N/mm or 10000! N/mm but when I jump the suspension decompresses to the maximum length. I'm using the MacPherson suspension like the FMK. Is this the same problem you like yours, Phathry?

What type of suspension do you use?

Raising the minlength values just pushes the shock_bodylinks higher.
The shock_bodylink is a attached to the chassis. How could it be pushed upwards?

Edit:

"shock_minlength" is added to the spring / damper length and to ride height to calculate, in realtime, the distance between the two shock links.
spring / damper length is RestLength, right?

Maybe your shock_minlength is to short or your spring to soft?

Hi Phathry,
to have the tie links in front of the spindle, there is an option in the .cfg file.
steer
{
racklength = 0.095
rackdirection = 1

ratio
{
range = 695, 0, 695
setting = 0
}

lock = 28.5
}

I think, rackdirection=1 or 0 should solve your problem.

I'm not sure, but I think the shockminlength is the lentgh of the shock, when it is fully compressed(minimum distance between the two red points in the debug mode). The distance which the shock can travel should be the restlength.

I'm also interested in this information, so I hope somebody could tell more. :)
