Are we "losing" people because they are not aware of the extra's GP bikes has to offer or are there no ignorant people that buy this game?  ;D
Option 1 for me. Ready to bet my left kidney and 3 quarters of my liver.

The wiki manual is not going to be completed quickly, so an unofficial guide will be useful for a long time. Also it may be cover topics that should be left off the official manual.
OK, we'll keep working on it then.

Of course, if you notice any wrong/missing stuff (*), feel free to notify me/RiccoChicco.
Also, consider the guide as public, so if you need to take part of it, don't even ask, just take them.

A couple of questions:

  • In Settings, Input 2 tab: what is "Dash" for ?
  • In Settings, Misc tab: what is "Help" (On, Min, Off) for exactly ?

Plugins / Re: MaxHUD plugin
January 12, 2014, 11:56:38 PM
v1.4.0 out: map has now 4 modes, rotate ON/OFF and view range 0/non-0. From the PDF file, 2 params in the .ini:

  • HUDMap__rotate: if false, the map orientation is fixed, if true the map will rotate with the bike (yaw) in order to always have the bike pointing "north" (i.e. towards the top of your screen, not geographically).
  • HUDMap__range: positive integer (in meters). If 0 (zero) the whole map will be shown, else only a square "window" (side is 2 x range) will be show and the map will translate. Notice that if the range is such that the entire map fits in, the map will not translate.
For rotate and range, only 2 of the 4 possible combos should be of interest:

  • HUDMap__rotate= false, HUDMap__range= 0: this is the default mode, track not rotating and shown entirely.
  • HUDMap__rotate= true, HUDMap__range= 200 (or whatever you like): here the track rotates (i.e. the bike will always be heading "north" on the map) and translates (i.e. the bike will always be in the center of the widget and only +/-200m in each direction will be shown). This can be useful for long maps (NW200, Nordschleife, Mini TT, ...).

P.S. for dibu:
Time to messify the code with a lot of #ifdef to make this plugin work for WRS too :)

A new wiki page has been set up at the following link: http://docs.piboso.com/wiki/

The plan is to add manuals and documentation about all simulators and tools.
That's great news !

What would you suggest with respect to the ongoing effort on the GPB unofficial guide ?
Should we just stop working on it and wait for the wiki ?

I'm not sure but I think PiBoSo said he's going to 'ban' imported tracks when GP Bikes v1 will be released. He wants only scratch built tracks, and that's a good idea imo. But again, I'm not sure if he literally said that.
I don't think he said that literally. In any case, at worst he may ask for removing references to such tracks from the forum.

I was not speaking about upside-down or normal fork.
If we look at the screenshot from Piboso, the fork offset seems negative (go back toward the rear) compared to the chassisSteer point (which is where the contact between the chassis and the fork is done).

It is like the triple clamp is not mounted toward the front, but toward the rear wheel).  :o
I haven't verified, but if it is true, it is indeed an unusual setup, at least for a bike (maybe ok for a scooter, don't know).

RC bikes for example are typically like this: it gives a sort of cart-wheel self-stabilizing effect.

QuoteIt also looks like the fork is mounted reverse on the scooter according to the screenshot from PiBoSo.
But the fork is mounted reverse on the scooter isn´t it?
Upside-down or normal fork does not make a difference for GPB: the fork will still have an unsprung mass and a sprung one (integrated in the steering head mass).

QuoteI am happy for any help as I already look into it for a few hours without finding the correct reference for the front.
Right now i don´t have a clue either.
maybe Max has...
No time yet to have a look at what neoraptor has done (looks interesting).
However I never played seriously with 3d modeling and, to be honest, I don't plan to do it neither: my life is already not long enough without tinkering with 3ds :)

Once I start the physics modding doc, I may want to understand/crossreference the stuff that "links" physics and 3d model.

Why overloading the server with this traffic (and overloading Piboso with the development of the feature) when you can have a Mumble/Teamspeak sever and do the same ?
I don't see the point.

Not a bad suggestion.

Same thing for "Testing" in the main menu and other stuff here and there.

Once I'm done with the guide I'll compile a list of things with strange names.

The scooter mod is the best mod ever :p I'm sure people will buy GP Bikes just for the scooter mod ;)
I'm sure too. And that's sad :)

Support / 6.5 Garage: others tab

6.5 Garage: others tab

NOTE: the settings shown here are for the default 990 bike. Other bikes may have different settings (extra ones, missing ones, less choices etc).

Under the Geometry part, you'll have:

  • Rake: the rake is the angle between the steering axis and a line perpendicular to the ground (hence vertical if we assume the ground horizontal). In general, this angle depends on the angle you set between the front head assembly and the chassis, but also on the chassis pitch. The angle shown by GPB here is the angle between the steering axis and the chassis. As a general rule, a small rake gives a more reactive bike while a bigger one leads to more directional stability.
  • Swing Arm pivot: at the moment this has no impact in the game. In general, on some bikes you can slightly change the position of the swing arm joint in the chassis: this impacts essentially the squat behavior of the bike. If you accelerate in steady conditions (bike going straight at constant speed) the rear suspension can either compress (bike squatting) or extend:  for a bike with chain transmission this depends on the relative position of front and rear sprockets (and the rear one depends on the swing arm joint position).
  • Swing Arm Length: this determines the swing arm length and hence affects the wheelbase but also the squat behavior seen above. Typically, a long swing arm will provide more directional stability and a smaller willingness to wheelie, but also a bike that turns less easily.
Then you have front and rear tyre Pressures (not a lot to explain here) and finally the Electronics (for the bikes that have it):

  • TCS: Traction Control System, the higher the setting, the lesser chances to lose the rear when opening the throttle you have.
  • Engine Braking: how much the engine will brke (or try to) when you close the throttle and/or shift down. Surprisingly, here 0 means maximum engine braking, 3 is minimum.
  • Anti Wheeling: electronic system that cuts some power when the bike is wheeling. 0 = OFF, 3 = maximum.
