Physics / Re: One question about physics params

From width and length and amount of fuel left in the tank, height is calculated.
Then, using width, length, height and mass, inertia tensor of the fuel tank is constantly updated.
Pheeew, for a split second I thought that ...

Side question (can't resist, as many are facing troubles creating new engines and I can't play with this stuff on my own at the time): in the "engine" section, the "Ratio" parameter (3 for the murasama) is the primary trasmission ratio, right ?

Sounds like a bug too big to be true.

Were the 1000 bikes modded ones ?

Juju may not be on the forum but is still alive, in the GPB sense, so keep on waiting a bit more ...

Climax's netcode and servers for GP2 were pretty good and worth a look back at.  http://www.shawnhargreaves.com/
Not sure how much Piboso may need/want help on netcode, but definitely a person that may be worth contacting, in case.

General Discussion / Re: Server feedback and wishlist
December 20, 2013, 04:16:34 PM
No other user can today run servers as you do dibu. So the only thing is clear is that you should NOT draw back.

My 2c on the rest:

  • we've lost the hotlap stuff, that's VERY bad :( :( Hotlap was very effective in gathering riders together and pushing them to discover new tracks.
  • open servers always.
  • 3 victoria servers no MOD (dry groove training, dry race, wet training) [\li]
    • 2 servers with custom tracks, rotating every week or 2 weeks, possibly with tracks that are issue-free[\li]
      • 1 victora dry test server and 1 cudtomtrack (dry test) with MOD[\li]
The more I think about how to handle properly the mods, the more I convince myself that there's no way out of the separate http/ftp download server, but this would require some work from Piboso (but that will be usable by all his sims, not only GPB) and for the server admins (need to put in place an http or ftp server for in-game downloads).

Physics / One question about physics params
December 20, 2013, 01:54:23 PM
I have a fuckzillion questions about the unencrypted physics parameters and I know there's no way Piboso can answer them all, would take forever and anyway it's not the right time for that.

@Piboso: out of curiosity, why are lenght and width of the fueltank specified ? Don't tell me you're actually simulating the sloshing ...

Suggestions and wishlist / Re: noise of the slider

Maybe you did not hear them on the Murusama because of the real(ly) loud engines of aMotoGPBike (up to 120db - never ridden one) but on every Supersport or Superbike (up to 102db - ridden both of them) you will noticably hear the sliders....
So count me in for "slider noise" in wishlist :)

Thanks Hawk ! Just read something about X Plane and yes indeed, they do some sort of (very simplified) fluid dynamics computations. Most likely a big part of this is done offline when the model is created/processed. Still, a nice idea from them.

For GPB, that was what I was thinking, I just wasn't 100% sure.

I know other games have the option to lower the other bikes/cars sound, but that does not sound (lol) very realistic.
On a real bike, if an identical bike is riding just before me or next to me, there's no real reason to hear my bike a lot more than the other, no ?

Anybody with track experience and playing rider view can confirm ?

The 3D Geometry will be totally independent from the physics algorithms that define how the bike handles/accelerates etc, etc.
For the 3D model to effect performance would require a fluids dynamics simulation for air flow simulation. It's the difference between Xplane 10 and Microsoft Flight Simulator(XPlane is a fluid dynamic flight simulatior and Microsoft Flight Sim is calculated via fixed physics factors used to calculate performance.).
That's clear, but some major parameters could potentially be linked, like the wheelbase, front head pivot point, swingarm pivot point etc. That said, I don't think they should be linked.

BTW, I really really doubt X10 simulates properly the fluid dynamics of an airplane: research code I've  seen running on very powerful computers was far from being realtime :) Sounds like a bit of marketing-speech from Xplanes.

try to change some parameters and see what's happen, for example "width" in the tyre file

Wish I could, I'm thousands of Km away from my PC so no GPB for me till 01 Jan :(

Media / Re: GP Bikes vs Real life

Yeah, we already compared the two videos (guess FTR racing "only" put them side by side).
How the behavior is really close is just amazing.

And that was beta3 :)

But... Do the bike model influences the overall performance of the bike?
I would think/hope that no, the 3d model geometry is independent from the physical parameters of the bike, so that it should be possible to have a bike with 2m wheelbase visually, but only 1.4m in the physics. Can anybody confim ?

Makes sense to me but I'm not sure you can hear the noise of the (knee) slider given the noise of the engine.

Hi all,

now that modding has been fully unlocked, we'll be buried under a tons of different mods made by different people and often for the same bike class (e.g. the much requested 600cc).

One thing I'd like to have is the following: completely separate the bike 3d model from the bike physics, more or less the same way the helmet model is now separate from the the suit/paint.

That way, 3d modellers would not have to care about physics and vice versa.

For a 250 just double the torque figures for the msm 125 figures. A 250 twin is just two 125 cylinders :)
That may be more or less true for the power, but what about the engine mass ? What about the engine inertia ?
There are plenty of things that are accurately simulated in GPB ...

MaX.

yes but now he is making the engn file probably for the 125 chassis, others values are in others files, and many are very difficult to have, indeed impossible
That's the hard part of creating a new bike. For some parameters, even if the exact value is close to impossible to get, you can make an educated guess if you know how to do it.

But if you just take a 125 and double the power you don't get a 250: you get a 125 with the double of the power :)
