Bug Reports / Re: Core crash on empty servers

Here I am again! :)
I installed GPB on my girlfriend's pc (Compaq CQ58 with windows 8.1 and lower hardware specs than my pc; GPB with "low" graphic config).....it works!!! No core.exe when online and 0 players....  :o :o

So..... what's the matter with my pc?!?  :-\

My specs: Acer Aspire 5740G, Intel Core i5 CPU M430 @ 2.27 Ghz, 4GB Ram, ATI Radeon HD5740 (drivers up to date), audio card Realtek High definition audio (drivers up to date), 640Gb Hard disk. Windows 7 Home 64.

Your system specs are more than adequate to run GP Bikes. I bet if you performed a fresh re-installed of your OS then it would work fine on your PC too.
When did you last have a fresh OS install? PC's tend to need a good fresh re-install every so often, as there is SO much crap that gets installed unintentionally from the internet and cheeky installers, plus shared files are a nightmare, as I'm sure some uninstallers delete some shared files that are still needed by other programs you still have installed(Take note Adobe!). All these kind of things can lead to problems after a while and a fresh install sorts everything out. :)

I usually give my system a fresh OS install at least once a year, just for my peace of mind really. Plus the fact that I rely on my PC for work, so I like to make sure I keep it in tip top shape. :)

I would prefer the community to vote on the rideablility of the track rather than whether the track is their favourite or not
By putting something like "rate for rideability" in the poll header it maybe gives a better indication of what people should rate for, although some of course will have their personal opinion influence their objectivity  ;D

By the way things are going here, "Paul Ricard looks like it will come out at an "8" or a "9" rating. I believe "8" will be a fair and true rating, a "9" would be a little too much in my opinion. :)
I am happy that you are using your common sense so balance things out a bit. Using the polls as an indicator is the way to go i think, those 1 or 2 ratings are not very realistic especially not for Paul Ricard. But when you look at all the ratings they indeed balance the extremely high ones out a bit. An 8 is what i rated so I guess you are spot on with that estimation  :D

The mathematical formula I use(Posted on the Track downloads thread/ Track ratings list) to get the final result from all the votes is specially designed to give the average result from all votes cast rating from a choice of 1 - 10.  I didn't want anyone to think I was just choosing my own personal rating from the poll results. Hehe  ;D

Hey hawk, I think what you were trying to figure out is how "rideable" they think the track is right?, because I think people rate it on their personal preference of how well they like the track, not on how good it is to ride or on how good it looks.

Not sure though but I think you were talking about the rideability of each track in another topic.

Yes iVolution, you are absolutely right. I would prefer the community to vote on the rideablility of the track rather than whether the track is their favourite or not, but I've come to realise that certain people will vote how they want to vote no matter what I say, so hey, just vote away. Hehe. :D

In my opinion, community members who have voted a "10" rating here are the ones who are not voting for the rideability of this track; I say this only because a "10" is the highest rating and the track would have to be "perfect" in every way to achieve a rating of "10", and as good as "Paul Ricard" is, it does have a couple of minus points, namely there are two corners that require slight attention before it could be rated as a "10". This is my personal opinion of course. ;)  :P

In actual fact, the ratings are coming out as I personally(looking on tracks from a rideability point of view), the results after they have been through the ratings formula are coming out at what I'd say is a very true rating for these tracks. Some do rate tracks far too high, but other votes tend to temper those who vote with rose coloured specs on. LOL

So far I am very pleased with they way the ratings are coming out. ;D

Edit: By the way things are going here, "Paul Ricard looks like it will come out at an "8" or a "9" rating. I believe "8" will be a fair and true rating, a "9" would be a little too much in my opinion. :)

what about auto-zoom?

I saw an explanation from Piboso about the auto zoom camera function for track makers. It's in the documentation sections somewhere, can't remember were, sorry! :P :)

As I understand it, the unblock button is for stopping particular program .dll files from activating the windows security measures to block certain activities from running on your PC.
I remember having problems with a program once and I just couldn't figure out what the problem was until someone told me about this feature. I clicked the unblock button, reinstalled the program and it worked fine. So the block doesn't seems to stop the program totally from functioning, but must restrict certain activities of the program which can cause problems.
Yeah there may be some microsoft weirdness (no big surprise), but for ghostchild the game works fine except on servers with zero players or am I missing something ?

MaX.

No, your not missing something, max. But it's got to the stage were Ghostchild has tried pretty much everything he can, so we can only presume that something weird is happening to cause this problem for him. This is why I suggested in my last post to Ghostchild to have his broadband line checked to make sure it was properly synchronized, as a poorly sycronised phone line can cause unusual and weird problems when connected to a games server, weird as that may be. :)

Janaucarre. You reminded me of something else, too: @Ghostchild - Before you install GP Bikes, right click the "gpbikes-beta4b.exe" and select properties. There maybe a button named "Unblock", if so then click that "Unblock" button before you activate the install. I had this and totally forgot about it.
Never done this in my entire life, neither for GPB not for any other program.

Not sure what it does (maybe it is related to a specific anti-virus), but I doubt this is ghostchild problem.

I've tried a brand new installation, clicking "Unblock" button before installing......same core crash :(

Maybe some kind of problem with the internet connection?  ::)

I use Avira anti-virus, I've tried to start GP Bikes turning off Avira but nothing changes...

I've thought of one more idea that might well help. It strikes me that what could be happening is a weak data signal on your phone line, this can be caused by the line not being synchronised properly. Call your phone line provider and ask them to check the synchronization of your broadband line because it keeps dropping out, and they should then be able to check your line for you straight away and let you know if there is a problem with the signal quality of your broadband line and fix it for you straight away.

I know it's a long shot, but seems to me that you have got to a stage were you have tried pretty much everything else, and deduction says that you are more than likely correct in saying that you maybe have some kind of problem with your broadband internet connection(or your broadband line not synchronized properly).

a friend of mine has tried to install gpbikes on win8, he has a message he cannot launch the exe, after hours he found that an old blocage of the firewall because he didn't install rightly was ever in function only for gpb exe, he delete the memory of the firewall and all is ok after that. Perhaps it will help you.

Getting this on every server.
I have everything up to date, even took out the tracks folder because i have been told the tracks cause data mismatch then went on Victoria server and i'm still getting a Data Mismatch

Tracks will only cause a server data mismatch error if the track for the server you are connecting to is a different version to the track you have on your PC.

You didn't say whether the Victoria server you tried connecting to was a Mod Bike server or the default Victoria server?

EDIT:Try moving any mods to a temp folder outside the Gp Bikes folder so you have just a default install and try that.

I got another pc with windows 8.... it can be good?

Why not give it a try... I'd say the chances are very good ;)

I've only got windows 7, so don't know a lot about the workings of Win 8. But I'm sure it would have a compatibility option for installing Win 7 applications, if needed.

Ok, it took me 2 hours to do all the steps...(I also updated the video card driver at the last version)
Brand new installation, no mod... Go on Track 19 - Training dry groove, 0 players, ping 60.... I went out of pit and.....the game freeze with a core.exe!!!  >:( >:( >:( :'(

I quit, will play only when there is already someone in the server... but there is something wrong  :-\

2 hours ? Then your PC has some serious issue man !

For me all the above should not take more than 10min (and I'm being generous).

MaX.

Hi Ghostchild.

Sorry it didn't work for you.....

Yes. I agree with Max. There must be some issue with your system. If you've followed those steps and it still doesn't work then I don't believe GP Bikes is at fault here.

Do you have a family member or friends PC you can try Gp Bikes on?

PS: Your absolutely sure you didn't copy/paste anything?

@Max/iVolution: Would it make any difference if Ghostchild was installing it through a windows user account and not through the administrators account? Just a thought.
Seems strange though that he can connect to the online server when others are racing, but gets a core.exe when on his own. I really cannot think of anything else that could be the problem.
