Local track eh.
Snetterton is only 40 minutes away for me and I'm going there in April for my first day on the SV :D

Aye, used to live a short push bike ride from the track but now am probably about the same as you away in a car from the Thetford direction. Is this your 1st track day as well  your 1st go on this bike then matty?

@Teeds. What you think of Snetterton 300? Had my first trip to the 300 circuit in 2014 (I had been to the original hundreds of times)
I love the spectator banking at Agostinins you can see nearlly all of the circuit

It's my local track and yea I loved every minute of thrashing the bits off my bikes around it. Was so glad to have done hundreds of virtual laps in a car before going, was a car sim but was still great to know the track layout in detail. In hindsight it would probably have been better with the 20 min sessions we did to have gone on the 200 track - more laps and less learning needed.
Used to hang around this track a long time ago and did some car park marshalling for the Race of Aces now and then, crazy days!  :-X  Never got to ride or drive on the original though, I wonder if the Nortons would have done so well with this many more turns in the mix?  ;)

So Harry, have you ridden the 200 version and if so do you prefer it to the original? Also how do you rate the 300 in comparison?

General Discussion / Re: Joysticks with square output

I know someone that could use what you describe then Max, sounds good. I've just loaded up that xbcd v1.07 on win7 x64 with no problems but it doesn't seem to pick up my ps3 controller I use with the SCP driver package, anyone know if it works with Motion Joy? Maybe it only works with actual Xbox controllers?

General Discussion / Re: Joysticks with square output

I have played with some of the joysticks in these controllers and I would be careful with the filing option. If you look at the image below you have the blue circle representing your current movement with the red square being what you're really after. The joystick I played with (ps3) seemed to jam up at the extremes so I figured that the restrictive circle was due to physical constraints of the joystick mechanism. If anyone is considering this before you attack your controller with a file make sure the joystick is happy with the travel you're after.
Also if you reduce the saturation via software tweaks you'll get movement detected only in the black square which will reduce your throw considerably but will achieve a square detection zone. No right or wrong here but something to be considered with a control that already has little throw, looks like about a 25-30% reduction on TDC and SDC.

You could probably just stick a load cell where a classical (non radial) lever pushes the cylinder, no ?

Yea if there's enough room for the initial travel, spring and sensor etc. Also maybe the plunger could be extended to protrude beyond the banjo bolt hole, mounting the sensor where the banjo would normally sit. I need to have a rummage in my garage see if I have a front brake lying around to play with.

Teeds that switch on the master cylinder(universal Harley I custom built them 25 years) its just the brake switch and no use. its digital not analog.

Umm yea thanks for that DD  ::)  lmao   ;)

If you're not expecting any movement from a fluid based system once it's engaged then it seems bit overly complicated using hydraulics? I was thinking for simplicity and compactness couldn't you rig up a mechanical equivalent using a load cell and some rubber actually within the fluid reservoir? I was thinking you could drill and insert a pivot in the ally reservoir and have a lever going from the push rod to a load cell/rubber/spring assembly on the other end. Would need to be the same as pictured below and not the remote reservoir type but should be as easy as rigging up a complete system if not easier, neat and compact too and no fluids. Hmm...  :)

For the money they look very good. Are you thinking of using a pressure sensor for the clutch?

I've played with people in Australia before with no problem, they had higher ping than most but not high enough to be a problem. The moto3 ping limit is 350 and the Australians I raced were well within that limit, pretty sure the league we raced in had a lower ping limit.

Sellers what ping are you getting and have you made sure it's not being increased by other local traffic in your house? For instance as painful as it may be that porn download will have to be resumed later ;)

Custom hardware / Re: Cheap bar mounted switches
January 06, 2015, 01:16:58 PM
Nice, not seen these and I'm wondering how thick the bar clamp bit is, got a link please?

Also for foot gear change switches these have done the trick for me and no need to protect the switch physically, they're man enough and cheap.

looks VERY robust to say the least. How do you like my SPSS steering setup?

Yea fair comment DD lol, but had some bits bend on me when testing the spring load so had to large it up a bit. Just have to be careful not to tip my desk over now lol. I was also a bit suspect of the results of the F/B lean function but now I've used it a bit in MXB it's freaking awesome and I'd be gutted to loose it.
Yes the pivot setup of yours is saweet DD, i'd liken the change using it in MXB and GPB to the change I got when going from joystick or controller to a wheel in driving games. It just makes so much more sense and the sim just feels more real, especially when combined with the throttle and levered brakes etc. The steering also allows me to be much more precise due to the throw of it, which is something like 9" each side, so instantly things kind of got easier for me. Couple of mates of mine have seen what i'm using and want one...
I know i'm suckered into a game when I start sticking my real legs out in sharp turns to save a fall because my brain is momentarily convinced it's real lol  ;)

These hydraulic brakes systems seem like a great idea and should feel just right but I've never fancied the thought of it leaking onto my carpet, ways around that though I suppose.

So, found that when riding using my rig in MXB I was pulling and pushing on the handle bars as you do irl to control pitch. Also my stand has some flex which gave a tactile sensation like something should be happening. Additionally to reduce bulk and to ease transportation I wanted a desk mount too. Combining these two aspects I have made this -

I now have a desk clamp that seems to fit most desks and it pivots so I can use the handle bars moving back and forth as lean forward and back in game. Still messing with springs and need to put in some adjustable stops but it works fine.

Oh and happy new year all!  :D

wow, insane lean angle or low side recovery! Impressive either way.
