Maximum head rotation with openlook seems to be about +-100 degrees, i guess this is because anything more would not be possible with optical tracking, hopefully we will be able to do 'over the shoulder' with native support  8)

Hmm weird, I seem to recall being able to look almost all the way back ... I'll have a look.

MaX.

I tried adjusting the curves in openlook but i could not increase the rotation in game past +-100 degrees. You can cause the curve to arc over above 100% but this seems to give unstable values in game. I guessed its because the input mapping is generic joystick rather than customized to edtracker and the output mapping is ranged to emulated values of freetrack which has no rear look.

@DD that's great, look forward to seeing the results.

Do you have the Xinput dll added to the plugins directory? Without it the triggers will not work correctly

The best guide  ;) ;

Oh, by the way 'Hello' and welcome  :)

Cool, it will be nice to see what someone else makes of it.

Just one tip, read through the included assembly instructions, they detail the easiest assembly sequence using the PCB. It is very easy to make it a little more awkward than necessary (yes, i found out the hard way  ;) )

Height wise the assembly is very tight in the included enclosure (i scraped the raised logo off the inside for a perfect fit) so check you have everything right before soldering. It is also easier to mark out the hole in the top of the case for drilling before you assemble the PCB as you can use it for a guide (yes, i found out the hard way - again ;) ) Pack out the length and width with foam if you do not have any tiny self tapping screws.

Originally i used a velcro strap to hold it to my headphone band then i found an old elasticated cable clamp that worked really well - really need to add (glue) a 'clip' of some sort to the case if using elastic bands.

Really need to get a few of these printed up - 3D print design/files are on the website. You can see the designer added band clips and sized the interior to be a custom snug fit to the board.

@DD any idea of the cost for printing?

The included firmware setup procedure is out of date, follow the you-tube video. Its pretty much automatic once the host program is installed to the PC and downloads the latest firmware directly to the device. You will want openlook and the updated .dll that MaX linked to get it working in GPB until  b7.

Some axis mapping selections to do for openlook i will post them to save you the confusion of trial and error  :)

The system they use for ordering you do not paypal until you receive the order confirmation email so you need a working mail link.
Could just open a temporary gmail as this works OK.

Website shows 465 unit available so i do not think its a stock issue.

As you will have not made any payment yet have you considered trying to order again? You can always explain it if the original order suddenly becomes active

For my order confirmation/email;

my order confirmation came through admin@edtracker.org.uk

and the contact was quoted as becky@edtracker.org.uk

Yes, i ordered the exact same one and it was in the post the same day. It was paid by paypal and all correspondence was with/to the paypal account holder via that contact e-mail.

I bough the 2 electronic boards from Hobby components as a pack - linked from EDtracker site, already had a micro USB cable.

I was very impressed by the service, but i do believe they have 2 or 3 different people processing orders. If you need help, the on line 'contact us' was answered very quickly.

Already got the excellent Bodnar board to hand so it saved me from opening up my only 1 week old, rather lovely new controller   ;)

Custom hardware / Paddle shifter!
June 22, 2015, 11:13:00 PM
Pursued the discussion from the other thread and had a go at building a decent prototype aluminum paddle shift for for my gamepad and it has worked out quite well.

Had a couple of small flanged bearings to hand so i added them to a brass spindle - the rocker is very smooth with a nice light action. The paddle can be swapped out without upsetting the switch 'press' as it has a small actuator board below the paddle arm :) Tactile switches are below the paddle on a small piece of veroboard and connect in via my Bodnar USB board. Super slick and swift shifting, just a hint of travel and then the tactile click.  8)

A quick couple of laps (just holding it in place with finger tips at the moment as i cannot find any sticky pads or Velcro around the house ) and its great, trigger fingers are back on triggers and pad grip is more comfortable.

Great little fun project   ;D

Is freesync something similar to G-Sync? I really want to try this new technology, playing any game without tearing (even when the framerate varies or goes under 60 fps) just sounds unbelievable.
But, as you said, not needed for less demanding games like GP Bikes.

BTW, I am using the BenQ XL2411T with the nvidia 2D lightboost hack. It basically removes all motion blur by using the strobe backlight of the monitor, creating a 120 Hz CRT-image.
Even though it's designed for fast first person shooters, I feel like it also gives some advantages with racing games.

Freesync - Its an AMD led version of the same concept.

Still  a big price premium  :(

Nope, but playing GP Bikes at 120 fps is also a nice experience.

or even 144  ;)

Must admit i was skeptical when i bought it that it would be much better than my old Samsung, but the difference in picture quality was noticeable straight away.

In games with modern cards capable of generating very high frame (variable) rates you do notice how much better it is without the v-sync issues.

Well pleased with it and not too pricey (got the iiyama)  :)

Just curious if 3D Vision would give a sense of depth (distance) for a racing game. If i knew it would work with GPB i would be tempted to keep an eye out for a deal on the 3D Vision 2 kit.

Just curious as it seems all you need is 120Hz monitor and they are becoming common now  :)

Off Topic / Re: Windows 10 reservation notification

Finally seemed to have worked out that the millions of unlicensed copies of DOS and then win3.x /98 then the 'corporate' XP key versions are probably responsible for windows/MS becoming so popular (dominant).

Once people had to pay for a license for each machine user base started to fall off and people became openly critical of the OS (vista) even though it was arguably better than its forebears.

The money for MS was always in applications and other software that uses their (restricted) platform so giving away the OS probably makes economic sense in the longer term.

Just wait for the 'not fair/uncompetitive' legal threats from other platform developers who realistically could lose a lot of user base.

Custom hardware / 3D Vision?
June 22, 2015, 09:11:49 AM
Has anyone tried Nvidia 3D vision 1 or 2 with GPB?, was it worth bothering with? Does it even work or is is just a directX thing?

Now I have a high refresh monitor i could run the 3D vision (glasses) system, just wondered if anybody had any experience with it.

Thanks

Rider detached from bike is already flagged by the telemetry, after a few seconds the brake could be automatically applied or the steering pulled across to cause the bike to topple.
