Netcode testing
« on: November 24, 2016, 11:34:53 AM »
After a few days from the latest update there haven't been reports of serious issues.
So, it seems like the good time to start debugging netcode.

The best way would be to have a dedicated server with Victoria ( with dynamic track of course ) and the stock bikes only. Baby steps.
Then a group big enough of GPBikers is needed, to make sure to stress the server enough to generate crashes and the other problems ( like chat / laptimes not being recorded after a while ).
Then I should join the server and try to catch the crashes using GP Bikes in debug mode.
This will require a lot of patience on the testers' side  :-[

Can someone set up a dedicated server with a good connection?

I should be able to help with this. Might be helpful to post what times and days are good for you Pibs?

Good idea. To help motivate people to come test and maybe even test the server for quite some time, maybe a server with dynamic weather (e.g. wet track at beginning and then a drying up track?) could be set up? Doing that, people would be motivated to stay in server for quite some time.

I'd say we should contact dibu for the servers, he can setup some dedicated ones and have easy access to monitoring.

I'm in for that Piboso.... Sounds good mate.  ;) 8)

Caws in co-ordination with dibu and PeterV would probably be able to help you out with a good connection server(based in Europe). They also have great server admin and network experience with GPB. I'll have a word with the Team to get in touch with you about that, also DD has a good connection also with the GPBOC Servers.

Hawk.

As soon as a proper dedicated server is found, there will be a poll to find out the best times and days.
Ideally there will be multiple groups, to keep the workflow running all days  :)

Would it be helpful to enter server and stay in the server as a 'remote bike' for time slots where we don't have time to actively take part? To at least have another bike in the server or would that not make any difference?
