How to add mods in beta12...safest way....I think
« on: October 31, 2017, 09:39:39 PM »

Hi guys thought it best to explain it a bit more and what way I find safest to not disturb your profile etc etc

You must first download the mods................DOH

Only download NDS tracks for now. NDS is in the track file name btw

Track Database: http://forum.piboso.com/index.php?topic=4584.0

Bike Database: http://forum.piboso.com/index.php?topic=2626.0

Helmet Database: http://forum.piboso.com/index.php?topic=2799.0

Paints Database: http://forum.piboso.com/index.php?topic=2625.0

Go to the GP Bikes Tracks folder and right click on the track you want to download and then select Standard Download

You must make an extra folder as in the pics attached:

Then add the following to the core.ini file in your GP Bikes install folder
:
[mods]
folder=c:\gpb\mods\

Then start gpbike and close it. Now you have a gpbikes folder in the mods folder. In the gpbike folder make new folders for bikes, tracks and tyres. Go to you beta12b game install folder and extract the misc and rider pkz files. Move the extracted misc and rider folders to the gpbikes folder in mods folder.

I recommend downloading sets, ie, all GP500 then install them then download next set. Beta12 has a new format to install mods. You need to extract the bike files to make a folder in the bikes mod folder to add bike paints. You can just leave the bike file as a pkz and it will work but you NEED a folder with the same name and a paints folder in it to add paints. If you extract the pkz, go to the folder you then have and delete all files in it except the paints folder, if no paints folder is in it make one for use later. When the bike gets updated, you just delete the pkz file, NOT the folder and add the updated pkz. If an update is just a cfg file or so, just put it in the bikes folder and it will work. Tyre files go in the tyres folder and can stay as a pkz if they are or if another format they must be extracted. Same for all files that are not pkz for tracks, bikes, etc etc.

Stands and Effects go in the misc folder

All rider paints must go in the modern rider paints folder NOT legends.
Do NOT use legends rider only modern and use modern rider style too.

If you run a server, all you need to do if it is on the same computer is add the mod lines to the server core.ini and it will use your gpb games mods so you dont have to do it all again!!!

Hope this helps someone and I am sure I forgot something or other lol

Thanks DD

This method really needs tidying up if we want more people to get involved with GPB.
Life's not a dress rehearsal, you only get one lap; why not make it a good one?

You have to right click on the GPB install folder select properties/Security/ user account then click edit, select user account again and check the ALLOW boxes the apply it

An alternative to having to edit the core.ini file would be to use 'mklink /J...' at the command line as an administrator to create a symbolic link between a mods directory and the various gpbikes directories.

I have all of my servers using centralized bikes, tyres, and tracks directories.

My directory structure:

C:\GPBikesServers\GPBikesServer_01 through ..._06
C:\GPBikesServers\GPBikesResources\bikes
C:\GPBikesServers\GPBikesResources\tracks
C:\GPBikesServers\GPBikesResources\tyres

I created a 'bikes' directory in GPBikesServer_01 with this command:

'mklink /J C:\GPBikesServers\GPBikesServer_01\bikes C:\GPBikesServers\GPBikesResources\bikes'

This way I only have to add content to the GPBikesResources directories and the various servers believe they have the files within their default directory structure.

I use the same technique on my sim computer and even use it for my page hosting in my /htdocs directory.
