DST Steering Test Beta7
http://www.youtube.com/v/0GG0vRHtnHw

Showing how I start with DST, and how I walk the bike. Walking the bike the controls will behave normally if in neutral. Once in gear the virtual rider is shut off. Which is a lot better then what it was before. Before the virtual rider was always off, so it made walking the bike, and starting from a stop super hard. Since he handle bars would be at a angle. If you look in gear the marks on MaxHUD show I am moving the sticks opposite of what they are doing. Once I get up to speed, I can steer normally.

I'll make another view showing what the sticks are doing when in a high angle turn.

I just learned if I am sitting on the bike, I don't have it in gear until I want to start moving. Even then the handle bars won't go to one side because as soon as I put it in gear I begin to move. I'll try to make a video of it and post.

If you put it in gear, then wait even a second or two the handle bars will move. If you put it back to neutral if will recenter.  So my advice is don't bring a gun to a gun fight unless you're willing to use it, and don't put your bike in gear until your ready to move. ;)

Hi All,

:) Been a long time.

In previous betas when using DST the handle bars would flop to one side or another as soon as you spawned. Which made putting the bike on the grid very difficult. Since you had to go right, left, right, left while walking the bike. I asked Piboso if he could do something about it. Now if you don't have the bike in gear, the virtual rider would "take control" of the handlebars, so you can walk the bike, and get in position. Once you put in any gear it will put the steering back to DST. Which with practice you can put it in gear and start moving long before the handle bars fall to either side. It's 1000% better then it use to be. Then it would always be to one side and had to fight with it to keep it straight until you got enough speed from them to straighten out.

It's only the smaller bikes you may have trouble getting going since they don't have the power, but for those rev the engine then put it in gear and keep the revs high to get some speed do it right and the handle bars won't have time to flop to one side.

P.S. Sorry haven't been around trying to sort out some medical things. Plus I haven't finished watching MotoGP 15 season or WSBK 15 seasons yet, and coming here people would be talking about it and don't want it ruined before I am finished watching. :) But I am still here.

Hi all,

Just wanted to post I am going to be taking a step back from the Bike MOD for a little while. I've had a lot of things going on here the last month and half. I want to get them sorted out. I'll leave everything up, if anyone wants to continue things I am Ok with that.

As talking to Hawk the other day, for a while. I've been having the worst luck lately. I felt like I was going to wake up and one of my arms would randomly fall off. lol. It's been one thing after another after another. lol :/

I am doing OK, and I am alive.  lol

I'll still be around, and I still love GP BIKES! :D

Sorry I haven't been around lately, been really busy. There have been 4 Birthdays in my family so far in July, and a national Holiday here. lol Plus some other things and I will being up to a cabin, I'll be gone on the 14th. I'll try to get the Bike MOD out on time but I may not be able to since I won't be home. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks Klax I have updated all my servers and sent a warning out for the race tonight.

I don't understand why the "updated" RSA files were created "before" the 2.90 version though.  ???

Rest well.

I don't get any advanced info if a bike is being released or not. Checking the Italian Teams facebook it said the 250 was reference as release version 1.1 19 hours before I put out the bike MOD. I had to scroll down past all the SBK race resaults to find the new scooters, after PeterV pointed it out.

I think it's well known that Klax is organising the BikeMOD Database, and in doing so has made keeping up to date with any changes bikeMod authors make to their bikes SO much easier than it used to be a few years ago when if you wanted the latest update to a bike you had to go searching for it and even then you couldn't be sure you had the correct version to install to avoid the dreaded server "Data Mismatch" error message on connection.

I just think it would be great if all BikeMOD/paint and helmet authors had the consideration to at least co-ordinated with Klax to make sure that he was aware of any updates and changes to any of the bikeMODS/Paints and Helmets.... This is apparently NOT happening, but I think this is the least they could do considering the HUGE advantages that Klax's work with organising the BikeMOD/Paint and Helmet database brings to us all.

I just wanted to make this statement because I don't think Klax is being given the help and consideration he deserves with all the work he does for us all. It makes his job a lot harder if he is not informed of any changes.

So C'mon guys(All Bike/Helmet Modders, and Paint authors).... Please keep Klax informed - It doesn't take a lot of time and effort to post him a direct download link in a PM for any updates you make. I know it's not hard and time consuming to let organisers know about changes because I do it myself when any changes are made to tracks.... so no excuses.  :P ;D 8)

Hawk.

Thanks Hawk. :)

Please do, I want to see in DST how much opposite steering I'm doing in turns and how much in put I'm using for the rider and for steering.
Hmm .. .you mean you'd like to visualise also rider lean L/R and F/B ?

I remember I asked you about this a couple years ago but couldn't be done. :)

Couldn't be done the easy way (GPB passing the values to the plugin), so I had to do it the hard way (the plugin itself fetching the values of input devices, using external libraries).

    MaX.

Sorry for the delay in writing back. Yes rider input l/r, f/b would be great too. My main thing would be to have on the screen showing what both sticks are doing. So if I make a video you could see that at certain points I am pushing the sticks towards each other, and other times away from each other. When using DST, been trying to think how to film it so I could show what my hands are doing as I am going around the track, but also what is going on in the sim. If there was a wedget that showed the sticks movements would be great. Maybe a circle with zones for each stick, and a little small circle inside it to show were the stick is in the sticks movement area.

I'm pondering having a new widget in the HUD: something that shows the raw joypad input (2 sticks + 2 triggers). Would this be interesting ?

Question 2: anybody interested in something that displays the raw input (of a generic input device, not necessarily a joypad) ?
    E.g. 8 bars showing 8 analog axes ?

    MaX.

Please do, I want to see in DST how much opposite steering I'm doing in turns and how much in put I'm using for the rider and for steering. I remember I asked you about this a couple years ago but couldn't be done. :)

@Edouard: It's great to see the "Golden Oldies" riding around on the race track! There's hope for me yet! Though you do tend to bounce harder the older you get, and it's a very true saying too! Hehe! ;D 8)
Yeah my dad is riding now more than he ever has! He likes the saying "You don't stop riding when you get old, you get old when you stop riding".

I hope I can ride until I'm at least 70 or maybe push all the way to 80/85. A couple years ago I followed (during a classic event) Jim Redman for a few laps. He was 81 and was still going strong! At least fast enough to ride in a modern Intermediate group, if not more. But hey, he's a 4-time world champion so it helps :P

So riding until 80 at the race track is my logical target :P

Think he was 6 times world champion. 4 in 350cc, and 2 in 250cc. :)

As soon as there is a gamepad with two additional triggers (for clutch and rear brake), I will buy it.

Until then, I will continue using my 5 year old Xbox 360 pad.

    Same here!

Thank you Klax. That was an onboard i was looking for  :)
    I looks like i have to rework the Moto2 engine.....for B7  :)

No problem dude. Seems like the dash on other bikes down on the bottom could have the ECU functions. Traction Control, Anti-Wheelie, Engine Brake, etc.

Like how it shows a dash even if a virtual one. Wish we had more bikes with working dashes that gave more information. Obviously they took out what gear he is in. lol

One thing i immediately noticed was that it is nice to have the paddle well back from the controller grips so that you can still grip the controller is the usual comfortable way. Looks a bit odd but seems right in the hand  ::)

The ones on the elite controller appear to be quite easy to activate by accident unless they are very stiff triggers.

Might well develop this into something prettier for the new controller as i have never got on well with the shoulder buttons on any controller so generally wasted.

@MaX, r.e. holding the controller weird.. holding my hands in a natural, comfortable position it seems that for me the shoulder buttons would need to be moved down, back and inboard about 20mm in each redirection to fall in a natural location (for digit 3) if using the triggers(digit 2) at the same time. Guess they have to design these things for everyone, male/female from age 5 and up so the compromise dimensions will not suit everyone  :(

I'm 3'3", needless to say I have small hands. lol I can hold the controller fine with both thumbs and pointers and middle fingers.
