Title: [Reproducible] Discovered a reason for core .exe in main menu
Post by: Blackheart on February 29, 2016, 10:03:07 PM
How to replicate this bug:

1_ Having installed 123/+ Paints for Murasama. (123 in my specific case)
2_ Open the game and in the Bikes choose menu try to change from category 1000 to category 500.
3_ Systematic core.exe result.  :o

Warning:

This issue seem change from system to system, but what is sure is that something is not working!  ::)

Agree - only 100 paints allowed for me.  :( (maybe total size related?)

Hmm 357Mb for me - could be PC spec dependant also I guess.

Downloading latest 990 paints for re test as I only had 105 for the 990

So a bit more into this and it is not just the number of bikes as I had 104 and no crashes but now I can only have 100?

I played around with various pnt files in and out and it could also be the total memory size used by the folder, not sure but look at what happened if I went over 337MB in the paint folder, this is just my folder remember on my system.

Put this pnt into the 990 paint folder, started GPB and selected the paint, note the paint name:

Swaped to 500 got a core crash, removed 1 pnt file from the folder, started GPB and selected the paint:

Now I get the right paint for the pnt file. BUT it depends if I put a quality, high MB file or several low quality low MB pnt  files. So it could be MB size related too.

I will look further into it to try and get exact specs for no crashes.

I dont normally do stuff like this so sorry for any confusion but hope the pics explain why I got a bit confused lol

DD just trying to help

The numbers change, I believe that is something with dedicated memory, or something like that, I think the only way to have a certain answer is to wait a Piboso test  :P

Yeah now it is defo 100 max files for me? I had 104 earlier no crashes?

Im stumped lol

If this is the case we need some way to make sure we have all the paints per bike we need for online racing and not ones that are not used anymore and take up space we need.

A data base with peoples name, bike and paint used is what would help.

Unlikely, as there's no reason to load all the skins. but there's an ssue somewhere for sure.
The fact it happens when changing bike should be a good start point for Piboso.

We mainly use per-race Skin Packs for this (we haven't used them so far in B8 races).  But I like your idea for paints to be held against the riders name in the Paint database as an option very much! Maybe something for Matty to contemplate then we could check the signed up riders list and get the paints per person. Hmmmm I like that idea!

The issue  mentioned here....core.exe when swapping bike, leathers, helmets, has always been the cause for core.exe crashes.

Thats why i never change skins/bikes/helmets for a race. And if i do i always restart GPBikes and usually the PC also before that.

I didn't notice it too much before.
However what is true (at least for me) is that sometimes when it bombs out with a core.exe crash, I have to restart the PC if I want to play again (even if offline). It's plain scary.

+1 Peter.... Totally agree with you on that. I learned very early on that it's always best to restart GPB if you want to change bike, skins or in fact to change server too... Seems to help reduce the chance of a core.exe crash happening for me anyway.  ;)

Yes... but what is the point?  :o

I mentioned an easily replicable way ... not a random crash.

It never happened a core.exe when i change a paint...

Whos talking about a random crash? not me.

And the point is, you can reduce core.exe by not selecting a skin/helmet/leathers before you enter a race.

Sorry you have the wrong thread, re-read the discussion, no one has talked to enter in the race... It 'a different problem.

Errr.... am I not seeing something here BlackY?  :-\

The point in your first post was concerning the changing of a bike category causing a core.exe for you, yes? Then surely Peters point is relevant?

He was just pointing out that this can also occur when changing leathers and helmets too, This whole issue has been a problem since I can personally can remember too. Also that if riders restart GPB before changing to another bike category or another server then it certainly does seem to help reduce the likelihood of a core.exe(though obviously not a sure fire solution).  Maybe this is the reason some get cored more often than others? :)

The same issue does occur when you come out of a server and then change category of bikes and paints without restarting GPB, so that's relevant to your first post issue too. Can you not see that?  ???

Hawk.

Re-explain, perhaps in the first post it is not clear:

This bug is reproducible 1000 times out of 1000, and only it happens with Muramasa (I guess).

My test are always done with this steps: open gp bikes/try change category/close GP Bikes/add 1 paint and repeat.

Arrived at a number of paints the game crashes. Repeat but this time do not add or remove paints. core.exe, repeat, core.exe, repeat, core.exe...

EDIT: Final step is delete 1 random paint and try again = no core.exe

I do not select any paint and certainly not enter in a race.  ???
