Just to remind riders not to be lazy by cutting through the track at the exit of the 2nd corner to get round the track faster for your next lap because it will likely screw up the server lap counts and lap timings. I'll fix it so that cannot happen in the next update.  ;)

I know. You wouldn't believe it DD, but we get riders who feel their hotlap is buggered for whatever reason trying to get back to start the next lap as quick as possible by any means they can find. I also guarantee that my warning will go on deaf ears with some too, and then we'll have the very same riders squealing that their lap times are not registering or their lap is not being registered. It's like banging your head against a brick wall sometimes. Lol  ;D

I might do an update before Saturday for this.... depends on how things pan-out.  :)

Just looked at a video of Snetterton 300 to see how the track is laid out and where this cutting would be possible and I actually missed it a few times by thinking that the cut in the exit of the 2nd corner is way too blatant. Stupid to cut there. Even if I crash I use the time to get to know the track.

Anyway.. Track looks AWESOME. Hopefully I am relatively successful there.

I have the same thinking too mate, if I screw a lap time I use the rest of the lap as practice. Just common sense really isn't it.   :)

Do you want to? If not Im happy to do it.

My real pet hate is people riding the wrong way through the pits to start their timed lap quicker. It is cheating and wrong on many levels including tyre wear, temperature, real life naughtyness and moralistically. Reported to me many times by MMA at Spa unfortunately.

Something people can do in their own testing - but not in the club sessions please.

This track is definitely one of the most challenging tracks I have ridden before. After a few laps I remembered the track vaguely from Project Cars, and even there it was a challenge.

I am enjoying the track, the curbs are just annoying. Soooo slippery :(.

Besides that... Do curbs have a different 'traction' value compared to grass? Also do curbs from different tracks have different traction values? Reason why I ask is because on Spa and A1 curbs could be used. Although still VERY slippery and most prob causing a nice rolling burnout :P it is not NEARLY as bad as with Snetterton 300. On Snetterton 300 is 99% guaranteed you will crash if only 1mm of your tyres touch the curb.
Title: Re: B8 Event 4 | Varese Cup Snetterton |
Post by: Napalm Nick on March 11, 2016, 09:03:13 AM
There are different grip values for :

3 x Types of different asphalt
Concrete
Grass
Artificial Turf
sand
kerb
soil
paint

Asphalt then concrete then kerb is the order of grip so shouldn't be too bad but I assume the changes to the tyres have made it all worse off asphalt for some reason. Grass and sand was too 'grippy' before but now the bikes just flop over on their side when they smell 'off track'. Maybe the changes went too far?  Maybe we have to fudge stuff by the trackmodders calling the kerbs "asphalt 3" or something. Bah an ugly solution.
Title: Re: B8 Event 4 | Varese Cup Snetterton |
Post by: matty0l215 on March 11, 2016, 09:17:56 AM
Each surface has its own grip level then each tyre has its own level of grip for each surface from what i'm aware.

I did some laps yesterday. The bike is wobbling one eyy straight, it's not possible to get it sorted. Its only possible with less throttle and rear brake but that sucks imo... Any setup advices for me? (PM would be great)
I like this track alot. Really challenging, with the 500 even more... As soon as I'm able to ride stable I'm going to place my entry... But it's not funny with all those problems :(

Cheers

Title: Re: B8 Event 4 | Varese Cup Snetterton |
Post by: Hawk on March 11, 2016, 10:29:57 AM
The apparent lack of grip on the kerbs is probably due to the modelling of the kerbs themselves(the shape of the kerb 3D mesh) and not the grip factor of the GPB kerb track model creation rules.

The Kerb model on this track is irregular and somewhat rounded instead of a very accurate representation of the real life kerbs. With cars you can get away with that sort of easy somewhat lazy modelling, but for a proper simulated bike model you need more accuracy to real life to get the proper response, hence the kerbs not being very accurate to real life in that their 3D shape holds not only a lot less grip than they should, but also the bike doesn't respond realistically when its wheels are traveling over the shaping of that kerb mesh.

So the conclusion when creating tracks for GPB is that you cannot be lazy in your track mesh modelling, with cars simulators you can get away with it, but for a genuine bike simulator you have to model to a more accurate level to get the best out of a simulator like GPB.

The kerbs models will take a lot of work to rebuild accurately, but I will look into rebuilding the kerb models on Snetterton as soon as I have time spare to do them guys.  In the mean time the solution is to stay off the kerbs! Lol  ;D

Just to say that any painted lines on the track surface are also a little more slippy than the track surface too, and if it's wet they become even more slippy! Great fun!  ;D 8)

Cheers

Be gentle yet progressive when initially opening the throttle, especially when trying to accelerate as fast as possible on corner exits, almost like telling your bike what your going to do before you do it. Don't just slam your throttle wide open and expect to get away with it..... It's all about throttle control, especially with the 2 stroke bikes.  ;)

Great news Hawk. I never rode this track and it is great bro. If the curbs were sorted to be real it would improve it 10 fold. The track cams are the best eva bruv.  ;D

Thanks for the last update, dont know what the old one was like but this is one of the best quality tracks I have ridden on.

Some corners I can not understand them, for example the right one with the "bump" I have a damn fear of falling and so I do it  very slowly!  ;D

It took some time to find the lines where i could go faster, but quite sure i am about to have found a great line around this track, my lap times are low and i can do consistent good times now too :) looking forward for QP and race :D

I think your talking about the notorious and appropriately named "Bomb Hole" corner. Lol  ;D

Try raising your ride height until you can max lean without the bike hitting the ground, alternatively practice another line through the corner because the bike only touches the ground on low ride height bikes on a definite line through that corner as far as I can tell?

Just to say the track surface is modelled from radar scanned track data, so is as accurate as can be.  ;)

I must admit though, that corner holds fear for me and probably everybody else too! Hehe  ;D

I can't take credit for the great track cams, they were very kindly created by Nick. He has indeed done a brilliant job in creating them. He seems to have a natural ability to see great scene views as shows in all his video creations too. But certainly a brilliant job done there Nick and much appreciated mate!  ;D 8)

My setup is made that i just scrape the fearing or whatever it is once in a while to cause some sparks but it seems quite ok as long as i stay on the right line. not so big trouble for me trough Bomb hole :)

I know your very familiar with the Snetterton track Matty so I very much trust your opinion on that mate.  ;)
Sounds like they may have smoothed out that section of the track radar data for performance reasons? Then maybe I should make some changes?! Hehe!  ;D ( :o :-\ )  ;D

Any idea what the max depth the dip in that corner is in real life and over what distance through that corner? I could measure those points in the track model to compare.  ;)

Anyway, I'll leave any consideration of changes like that until the uphill/downhill bike handling issues are fully sorted in GPB, otherwise it could create a problem. Lol  ;D

But as Meyer says: With the right setup and line then that corner is well conquerable. Nice to hear that Meyer!  ;D

Hawk.

I used to ride 2 strokes in real live (TZ 350 ...) I know how to deal with it but its easier to handle it if your able to feel the power ... in GP Bikes, the front wheel rises and you fall off. on the TZ, you apperently know, around 7-9k rpm the bomb is going to explode ... in gp bikes, im waiting, waiting and waiting ... no revs -> full throttle and boom.

I have to practise the whole night :D:D

My SV is only making 72 BHP and it's a blast! Nothing more satisfying than keeping up with an RSV4. Mind you im still in the novice group and make no attempt to seem like im that good  ::)

well the Moto3 makes 50 bhp but weighs around 80kg, which is probably less than half of the SV :P

Back in 2012 i was at a trackday/danish championship and participated in the rookie 600cc class, i ended the weekend with fastest time in the class and with one 3rd place and two 4th places being only moto3 against the 600cc :D great fun!

The best feeling is going past faster bikes and you hear them later the evening when they are talking about "that little bastard on the small bike" who just flew past them in the braking or corner :D

.. Been racing in Germany for some time now. It's awesome to race against guys with a lot of money and big bikes (Panigale, hp4, zx10r and so on) and pass them outside omega Sachsenring... I'm racing an old r6 rj03 99...  Glad to listen how they screwed like "how is he able to ride against us with this old, retired lady"... And like everybody was taking a look after the session, didn't belive how fast it's able to go :D..  Stock spec BTW, no Wilbers öhlins etc..

Less engine power is going to be sorted with totally craziness no?

Firstly. Congrats to Meyer for the win and demi and Toomes for 2nd and 3rd places! Well done guys!  ;D 8)

I had a pretty good race except for maybe 3 crashes and a few lapses in concentration, one of which gave Super the run on me on the long back straight in which he passed me and I stupidly tried to gain the place back by outbreak him going under the bridge and we both went wide into that corner and I ended up on the grass and down. Lol. But someone was watching out for me because two corners later Supers engine seized and he crashed out of the race. Really bad luck Super, we were having a really great battle out there; really enjoyed that mate! Hehe  ;D 8)

Anyway, 4th place was good for me and I was very pleased with my consistency on such a technically difficult circuit, so yeah I'm pleased with the result.

Thanks to DD for allowing me to pass in a professional way. I wish more riders would do it that way instead of slowing right down in inappropriate places as some do. You allowed me to pass without losing much time at all mate. Well done!  ;D 8)

There was a little bit of a pile-up at the start. Don't know what happened there, but I managed to thread my way through it all okay and then dodge a couple of crashed bikes on the track a couple of corners later... All great fun at the fair as they say. Lol

Thanks to Nick, Matty and the MMA Clerk of the Course for another superbly organised event. Well done guys/girls! Your all doing a great job there! ;D

Can't wait for the next event.... This is great fun racing with you guys!  ;D 8)

Hawk.

Does anyone need the replay file? I set my replay buffer setting to 700 and it recorded the whole event, though I've since chopped it to just the race itself(41 mins).

But yeah if no-one is uploading the replay file for us then I have it if needed... just shout and I'll upload it and post a link.  ;)

Also saved the replay, i had buffer @ 300 MB and it recorded 1h:41m;30s
Think something is up with replay size, i could not run the track in testing,
thats why i dropped my replay buffer from 500 too 300 mb. then it loaded fine.

@ all great race from everybody involved, thx for the organisation Nick, Matty and the Clerk.
Found the track difficult too master, but really good track (liked the old layout already).
Still one of the main race spoilers is the respawn, the long wait before you can get going again
because of heavy traffic around is a buzz killer for me.

I would like the replay Hawk as my GPB decided to only record 8mins4secs on the same 5000 setting that gave me 46mins at Spa race??? GPB cant make its mind up with the video recording?

Thanks for the kind words Hawk, I worry that I am in the way. I am really struggling when other bikes are about because of the sound, it sucks arse/ass/arsch/bumhole lol.

If I caused anyone a problem sorry I try my best. I am getting used to it but not been online as long as you guys(4weeks)

I thank you all for the best times I have ever had in GPB

Well done Meyer.  Superb performance.  :)

I blew the start again.  Lights caught me by surprise and I wasn't in gear(again - damn) then I panicked when they went out and flipped it on the line.  Chump!   ::)

Was way too many crashes for me to be happy but it was my most entertaining race yet, had a big grin at the finish even though it was as big a disaster as the start.  Ian had just sneaked past a couple of corners before and the pair of us egged each other into a last corner shambles.   :P
The bit inbetween didn't go much better really.  Ran into PeterV's downed bike,  had a little coming together with Nick that I should really have avoided, couple of silly low speed tumbles. :-\

....but on the plus side, had a little fight with Peter early on, held off a few quicker riders for longer than at the last race, avoided DD at turn 2...
...and it came down to a last-lapper against Ian, who I've been racing against for long enough to put on my serious face and take a few chances with.   ;D

Enjoy.

PS: If your having a problem picking your rider up on someone elses replay file, then leave it running for a while and it will find you, then just go back to the replay start and it should pick you up straight away. ;)

WTF Dareaper nearly to 300 ping, there is no control for the max ping ?

At the start there was to do in front of me flying ... impossible for me to understand his position, I preferred the retreat.  :-X

Really black?!?! I have done the past few events with no-one complaining about my ping(Even though its high and I can't help it. I am the only one from South Africa playing this), even you have not complained?!?

So in other words you are suggesting that this be my last event in GPBikes in total? Sorry but you are arrogant and have a rotten attitude. You crashed, and quit. The race was not over for you. Everyone crashed. Everyone had to wait for people to pass them, you are selfish. There has actually been mentioned that you must respect the people who organize it and respect that they have used their time to make this event happen, but I guess you Black are above that criteria ;).

I watched the video of the replay at Spa, and honestly even with my ping @ 300, it does not look like I jump around or interfere to an extent where it is a major problem.

Looking forward for the replay, thanks hawkster!

And thank you very much Nick, Matty and Clerk! Was a well organized and very fun event! :)

And DD, no worries you did a great job! And so did all the others! People was really good at giving space for the passes! PeterV did a super job too getting off the racing line and allowing me to pass with no trouble! Thank you very much guys! Can't wait for more of those events! :)

The setting is not 5000 but 500, its done in MB's now.

It all depends on your machine. My server uses 5000 becasue it is capable and will capture the races that come in up to 5Gb in size. (we already had some at nearly 2Gb).
My Games PC usually has 5000 but for this track I had to lower it to 2000.

You need to set a limit depending on what doesn't give you cores offline (seems an easy way to test).

In this race the whole replay file (pre-qually practice, qually and race) was 689 Mb only! (You just got it all Hawky!)

How Peter got it all with a setting of 300Mb makes no sense to me (or do you mean all the race only?).

The new interesting question is why does it vary with what track it is? It cannot be length because Snetterton is very long. I agree with PeterV - "Something is 'up' with replay size".

But at least we can say if you have cores offline lower your replay size until you don't.  ::)

All I can say is that my replay buffer set at 700 recorded everything from when I entered the race server about 10 mins before qualy started. The replay file I personally cut down to just the race itself to reduce upload time.  ;)

But from what you guys are saying, there is definitely something strange going on there with the replay buffer size setting.  :-\

Hawk.

Nope everything was saved with a bufer of 300MB. Practice Qualy and race.
And ill tell you another thing its only 209 MB in size as well.
Something is definitely up here. What? i dont know yet.

Wow that is really crazy so your replay makes a much smaller file than my server. How can that be I wonder? Who knows what is happening ::)

And I had a 5000 buffer and only got 8mins4secs and the replay size was 488MB!!! Figure that one out lol

The 5000 setting worked for qually and full race at Spa???

But were you still getting offline cores with 5000?  I noticed when I did, the replay length would default back to about 10Mb and ignore the setting  ??? Try 999 that should get 90% of the replays (999Mb).

Odd how different machines make different replay sizes. If we knew why I think that info would be very useful.

The replay simplifies the lag, showing in general just the front wheel raised, on any other server there is a max ping, just to avoid ruining the game for others., its my opinion is not arrogance.

300ms it is unacceptable IMO

P.S. Obviously I crashed because I had to go almost off the track to avoid your absurd lag. It was implicit.

Hmmm.

Well these 'club' races are for everyone but of course if there is a bad problem we must act. So now Blacky does not come anymore anyway, so we will monitor the situation. Everyone is welcome.

Closing the thread.

Oh, by the way, Well done to Meyer and the podium and everyone last night, I forgot to say it earlier.  ;)
