CRAFTY CROFTY DAILY RACES - SERVE YOURSELF
(http://i61.tinypic.com/2nv8kqp.jpg)
After the success of the recent impromptu races and comments made by dearly loved members GPBOC 2 will run the circuit CROFT every day for a while now with the bike type being changed regularly (announced here).

The Server is set-up to allow you to vote/poll to go to a race or qualify or whatever you want to do. So, if you find a few people on there - get racing! Please keep in mind that during a race no-one else can join the server so don't spam races one after the other for hours.

Beware - currently this is a Dynamic track so some cores may occur but you have control to restart sessions as and when required
I hope you enjoy this.

PS: Please feel free to 'Call' a race in this topic if you fancy one and want to canvass for riders (evenings usually best but anytime)

Did you win again Nick?!  ;D 8)

I'll have to come and spoil the party as soon as I've finished getting this NDS Version of Croft sorted. Hehe.  ;)

I had to re-export from original source files to do it, and then it was giving me core.exe grief when testing it; turns out it needed a new track centreline creating for some reason(don't know why?) but that fixed the core.exe problem. Done a new Marshals file, and I'm now just doing a new track replay camera file. I should hopefully have it all sorted around midnight in between the coffee and fags. Lol.   ;D

This is a very nice track! Surprised it's laid in the cupboard for so long and not used much before.  :o  8) 8)

Yep Teeds let me win while Yan was holding the baby  ;D Very nice of them.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh man I di'nt realise you was gonna 'NDS' sort it! I know you offered but I thought you had done enough already so didn't pursue it!

Big thanks 'cos we are all getting the odd cores there, I think your efforts will be /are very much appreciated.

I hope this netcode problem will one day be fixed cos the Dynamic stuff really is awesome. It was great to see the rubber down by the time I got there tonight.

Thanks Hawk you are a star.  :-*

There are a couple of annoying bumps which can really ruin your day. Also, being able to run off track after the 2nd chicane (around corner 9) shouldn't be allowed...

Can you pinpoint those bumps? I may stick in a new section of track surface at the problem area if you can pinpoint it for me?  ;)

I've already put in a couple of checkpoints at the chicanes so that if riders run through them then they will get a 5 second penalty added to their lap time each time they do it.  ;)

If you look at the map above I THINK Matty means the run-on just after the Jim Clark Esses. Too easy to opt for the faster 'outside track limits' option. But it needs to be there, that is a fast corner, no hay bales lol. Maybe a 5 sec penalty if used really wide. Definitely not anything that risks a lap miscount.

Think the bumps are around there too and the next bend. Personally I think some of the bumps on this track really add to the experience but I agree some of the fast corner ones (there is literally only 2 I think in that area) can ruin your day but then we could always slow down a bit hehe!

Just speaking for Matty as I expect he might be getting some beauty sleep now, I could be totally wrong though (but I hope not).

Good work mate.

Okay Nick..... I'll take a look at those areas. Probably be tomorrow night when I complete it with all the extras needed, but I'll let you know as soon as it's done mate.  ;)

Time for me to get some beauty sleep soon. Lol

Ta Nick :P

He is correct about where the bumps are. The main one is just before the fast corner where people run wide, there are a couple others but they add to the fun ;D

Haha..... If you guys like the bumps in the track surface you'd better let me know were the bumps are that are giving you so much fun because I'm going to have to do a total track surface rebuild and I'll need to know were the bumps are that you like so I can put them back into the new surface.  ;)

Personally with the FZ6 I liked the surface, but maybe with the racing bikes the bumps become bothersome  ???

If you will have to do a total track surface rebuild just to cure a bump I say just leave it as it is it wouldn't be worth the effort! Could lose more of its charm than that gained.

Or is there another reason?

hope this works - my first youtube upload ever, lol -
i'd like some thoughts on this insane behavior which i have suffered from several times, it's just not realistic at all, imo...
https://youtu.be/NOOqeKtJmxs

first ran it in real time, then in slo-mo for it to be seen easier. now, admittedly, i am slightly late into the first corner, and hence i have to throw the bike back for the next corner much quicker than i'd like, but nevertheless, it's simply impossible for this to happen, in my experience. any thoughts?
Title: Re: GPBikes Owners Club | Craft Crofty | Daily Races |
Post by: Napalm Nick on August 26, 2015, 09:10:07 AM
With the stopping power of this bike (Carbon front) if you are on the brakes while banked some of that power is translated to lateral forces but as you switch and come upright, those forces align with the bike with the normal tendancy for the rear to lift. The bikes trajectory at that time causes the back end to come round.

The forces are correct, but a real situation would cause natural body/brake compensations so crazy behaviour would never be seen like this.

U must identify those natural compensations and apply them. Not an easy task young Jedi.

For a start, try to lessen the rear lift by
1. Applying brake smoother or
2. Go to steel brake or
3. Reduce brake piston pressure
4. Raise front preload to raise the front of the bike and lower rear preload to lower rear (this works nice and is usually my first port of call).
5. ummm....brake earlier and avoid such situations!  ;D

In conclusion: Yes I agree it is unrealistic but there is good reason. Harness your subconscious compensations.
Edit
PS; If you look carefully it looks like you lose the front during the weight switch. I see this too sometimes and links with other phenomenons with the virtual rider weight shift that I have discussed with H quite recently!
So a mix of good and bad

thanks Nick, i'll try some of your suggestions  ;D
9 out of 10 times (okay, maybe 8 out of 10, lol) i am flying through that chicane no problem, but in those case i braked earlier and turned in earlier, making the whole experience that much easier, lol
so the thing with this sim seems to be - get it right, or weird shit might happen.  ;D

edit - just a thought here - it's almost as if gravity needs to be better modelled in the sim, lol

As said the only problem bump I can think of is turn 6, the right hander of the Jim Clarke Esses, had me off lots on both bikes so far but I'm learning to ride around it. Other than that it's fine.

@capedoctor, your front wheel tucks just as you start changing direction and as soon as it grips again it throws you off, the reaction is a bit extreme but I get the same. Jester found a setup from Spa for this bike that stabilises it lots but reduces the turn speed, worth a try. I can't find it right now but I'll link it if I do.

I don't think there is any problem suggesting this as an idea at all. All good sims have to start with natural earth forces, right?

Here it is, setup shown in video from Blackheart https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbQHcZWQLzc I adjusted the rake and swing-arm length back to stock to speed the steering back up, but it grips well and worth a try.

Well.... In my opinion, just smoothing out problem track surface mesh doesn't work properly, and patching bits of track surface into old crappy mesh can create problems, so it's easier for me to just rebuild the whole track surface.  ;)

OK mate cool you know what's best. Put some little bumps/ripples on the straight bits so it still feels like a real weather-beaten UK track tho ;D nothing worse than a clinical track surface IMO.

Lol! Okay.  ;D
We'll have to do test releases with the ripples(probably mean undulations?) otherwise could end up with too much, and they want to be sort of a random pattern of both undulations/bumps?

The Plan: I'll put a random pattern of the undulations and bumps, just on the straights, and I'll release a test version; when you guys are happy with it I'll release a final full super sample/lighting and shadow version - Does that sound good?  :)

New "Croft" - Bumpy Track Test:

This is just a test version to test if the bumps/undulations I have included are okay?

Change Log:
There is still work to be done to finalize the track, hence this version is for testing only and will not be included in the Track database until final version is released.

Enjoy the testing and get back to me here with your thoughts.  ;) 8)

The bump shown on this pic (with highlighted I-fell-off scratch marks) indicates the area I THINK Matty and Teeds are meaning (BARCROFT corner) and it still exists this is the one that flings you off nastily. The rest seems good so far  ;)

yes definitely - in that area there is a little bump on the start of the corner which is fine then a biiiig kinda double bump that often shoots you off - seems bigger than ever - maybe it was added but this isn't a straight cos of the high speed crank and braking zone you are doing there. Nasty.

;D

that's actually one that i do enjoy, even though it still catches me out every 6 or 7 laps, lol.
the trick i found there is that you need to back off the throttle ever so slightly just before the bump, then accelerate hard all the way through the bump. bike settles easier and gets through it nicely, 9 times out of 10.  ;)

Quick work Hawk  :) Just done a few laps on .8b and the problem bit in turn 6 is gone for me. Did find a few new problems though, in the breaking area into turn 1 the back end gets kicked up and between turn 7 and 8 seems a bit deadly. Also some of the other random bumps seem a bit sharp but generally it's fine.

well, my first two fast laps on the new bumps version also happened to be two consecutive record laps for me, so i know that that i like this version a lot, lol.
although there are still some small bumps to be careful of, it's nowhere near as deadly as they were before. two thumbs up from me.  ;D
(please keep some bumps, as it makes any track a lot more realistic and characteristic - also not a fan of clinical, smooth-as-a-baby's-bum, computer-generated circuits. well, err..... , guess we have no choice on that last, lol :P)

Great to hear your enjoying the track Doc!  ;D

The bumps were created from a lot higher resolution track mesh than the old version, so the bumps should act more like a real bump with grip rather than the old version were if you hit a bump with any angle you were almost guaranteed to crash. But nicely figured out in your other post above about how to handle some of these bumps.  8)

Congrats on your personal track record at Croft!  ;D 8)

Is there a new dynamic version of croft? Or just NDS?
I know the reasons for NDS tracks (and apreciate the work!) but not a fan at all.. In fact I hate NDS tracks  :P

there is a normal version 0.7 of Croft that is Dynamic. In fact we have used this all week but seen many cores so now Hawk has made us an NDS version where we race now.

One day Bob, one day......

I'll do a dynamic version when I release the final version of Coft V0.8b. Still just testing the new V0.8b so not officially released yet. But there is a dynamic v0.7 version in the database already.  ;)

Really enjoyed the race tonight. 5 laps goes really quick lol.  ;D

Congrats to Janau for the win... Well done mate! ;) 8)

Also congrats to Yan for the amazing fastest lap time. Your just a God Jan! Lol  ;D

Thanks for the race guys and Nick the host. Great job!  8)

Hawk.
PS: @Nick: Server cut off very quick tonight? I didn't even get chance to save my replay. Lol

yes cos server is set for anyone to control, it has an auto reset at 60 seconds after race. Normally I would go back to qually or practice before this but I was not quick enough because when I asked if everyone wanted to go again there was no reply, so everyone gets booted back to bike choice screen and has to join again.

It is set like this so people cannot hog the server all day with others not being able to join.

yes it was good but too much practice  - we should of had 3 races there not one  ;D

lol, i also found Croft to be one of the few circuits where i'm having so much fun trying to get each lap just right, that i lose track of things, and then run out of fuel....
surely a sign of having fun. 8)
that said, i think it's also a great combination - the Aprilia 250 is really well suited to this track, imo. if you have the right bike on the right track, you're sure to have a good time  ;D

We after recording as time 1:21, started furious battles, ignoring totally the times. We all more or less exact same race pace :)

Tranquil 1:24 its a great time, I personally use the Spa setup (one of my video) brake only set to 20 and shortened gear.

P.S. In this track I use the tcs, because without, the bike gets up too in the final corner  :P
Title: Re: GPBikes Owners Club | Craft Crofty | Daily Races |
Post by: CapeDoctor on August 29, 2015, 07:16:15 AM
ah yes, i was getting very upset when i did so many great laps, only to lose the good time on the last corner due to wheelies.
i checked my times again, and my best is only 1:25, so i still have a lot of work to do. :P
and my current gear ratio is the same as yours, lol, so let me see how i can cut 4 seconds off my time. it's a big ask....
if you have some time, would you mind posting up a lap of yourself around Croft, so i can see where i can do better?
or a replay?  8)

I not find it, so I did it again now just one lap and I've been fortunate to do 1:21  ;D

It's time............to change the bike.......

Yohji has just given the Owners Club permission to ship it to Croft and would like some feedback here if you have any. It is still in development and we hope recent events haven't dampened his enthusiasm for further development of this set of bikes.

So get yourself down there and the first one to complain about lack of power better have a good lap time on the board  ;)

Does this have a realistic Dyno curve? Seems a twid too under-powered even for the restricted - non European version  :-[

One of these with even a mild race setup should get 120mph. I could get that on my lightly tweaked NS125R.

What you think?

this mod power from Catalog spec + some(cause change mffuler) its real dyno data  (but 2014- spec has more some power)http://userdisk.webry.biglobe.ne.jp/004/976/92/N000/000/001/133515292243313125126_CBR250_ash_rpm.jpg

and check it video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_vlSAbZ-WE
140km/h where Tsukuba circuit's back straight end.

so this bike not has power. its for beginner's category.

but perhaps battle is exciting. because slip stream is very effective.

Yes! Interesting races there in the Dream Cup - looks good fun.

I think a 'raspier' exhaust noise would probably make this feel faster! Take the baffles out like we did with our teenage bikes.

I can imagine 10 of us racing these with the lead changing 6 times as we slipstream on the straight. That's good fun by anyones standards!

P.S. Anyway I am working full time on a skin for the Ninja, so I do not think I can be, I want to finish it as quickly as possible  ;D

Bikes possible:

Dream Cup - CBR250R (for a few more days)
Moto 2 - pre-2014 only for now.

Remember to set the Cloudy Filter when checking times.

Hope to see you there.
