Title: HELP: GP Bikes Dedicated Server Hosting
Post by: Myst1cPrun3 on September 07, 2019, 08:08:30 PM
SOOO, I'm an idiot, I tried dedicated server hosting. And I was kinda successful, in that my servers appear in GPB, and people seem to be able to play them.

However whenever I go to play them, all I see is 'connection timeout' whenever I go to the world tab, and before when I could get to the world tab, I tried to join the server and I just got a blank screen with cancel in. Now I cant connect at all, despite removing all files and a clean GPB Install. HELP.

Oh, and I don't know how to shut my servers down so there's just about 3 - 4 servers of mine that I cant stop LOL

Did you set up a static IP and port forwarding for the server??

These may help- https://forum.piboso.com/index.php?topic=3635.0

I'll have a look at those, but I did most of the steps in the 'Dedicated Server' tab. Sigh, will start again tho thanks for the links :)

(BTW The YT Links don't work, but the videos exist quick search and I got them)

I've followed these to the letter and got a server up and running before so good luck :P

I did mistakenly try to launch the game from the same GPB Install,

Will it have changed anything in the profile.ini?

Welcome to hosting Dedicated servers. You touch nothing and it all goes to pot :P

It is easier setting up another machine to host the dedicated rather than running it on the same machine as you play on but obviously that isn't always possible. I used to use an old laptop with a wired connection

Literally, anything that can run Windows will work. Dedicated servers use practically no machine resources. They just need a fast and stable internet connection

Do I have to have tyre and rider files in the folders? Got the server running on second PC, shows up on website, but not in game. Wondering if i need those files copied over?

You'll need the tyre files or the client joining will crash last time I had this. Pretty sure you don't need any rider files on a dedi server, I've never loaded any.

You need rider files for paints and manu models and helmates I would think.

I just link my server to my gpbikes mod folder so I have ONE set of mods for server and game if on same PC

I am attempting to use my second pc for it, as using 1 pc seemed to not work very well. Can get the server going, and it appears on the stats website, but not in the sim
Hence wondering if I'd need tyres or not (file is quite large so I didn't bother) .
Paints shouldn't make a difference as I don't use that pc to ride on anymore, but riders maybe a little necessary that I've overlooked

I can confirm 100% that you do not need any riders or paints on your dedi sever  ;)

Good to know thanks Teeds.

I could do with someone who has a stable server sharing their dedicated ini if possible?

There is a template for a dedicated.ini in the 'documentation' area.
Needs filling in but it's pretty self explanatory, just a copy paste and apply values

It seems you also need the tyre and rider folders to load into a dedicated server. Got it up and running nicely now. Will upload a copy of my dedicated.ini if you still want it DD?

Can confirm all files are needed. Got the tyres, riders and stands over and works like a charm. Dont need paints tho I dont think as thats client side

You just need all that comes with the bikes, I have 2 servers running right now (on a separate pc) and they do not have any rider or paint files loaded. Doesn't sound like you guys are running true dedi servers, maybe you host on the same pc that you play on?

Nope different PC to one I play on. Only issue was tyre folders it seemed, but I had space so installed it all to be safe
