Title: Recording lag...
Post by: davidboda46 on April 25, 2016, 04:58:25 AM
Hi guys. I'm using MSI Afterburner to record some first person videos but it's a f-in pain in the ass because of the in-game lag that occurs when the video recording is activated (still wish for a replay option that has 1st p-view and includes MaxHud-plugin gfxs... would solve this issue...). Any hints on better Afterburner-settings that might improve the situation? DD? You seem to have some practical experience with in-game recording :)

My current setting for video capture is:
Video prerecord Manual/None
Video format: MJPG compression
Container format: Audio Video Interleave AVI
85% Quality
Frame size: 16:9 720p
Frame rate: 30 FPS
Fram rate limit: disabled
Multithreaded optimization: Automatic
Downmix multichannel audio to stereo: Stereo rip

rest of the options not ticked...

My rig:
CPU
Model: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz
Logical cores: 8
Display device: GeForce GTX 580 on GF110 GPU
Display driver: 364.72
RAM: 6GB

Your CPU supports QuickSync and your GPU supports NVENC, MSI AB can use that.

Setup is a bit iffy, check here (1st post from unwinder, the MSI AB dev): http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=380513 (http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=380513)

Steps:
1. Follow the instructions linked in his comment, here: https://mirillis.com/en/products/tutorials/action-tutorial-intel-quick-sync-setup_for_desktops.html (https://mirillis.com/en/products/tutorials/action-tutorial-intel-quick-sync-setup_for_desktops.html).
2. Configur MSI AB to use QuickSync or NVENC: change video format to external encoder, then select QuickSync / NVENC, (if I recall correctly)
3. In the encoder dialog there's a benchmark button: hit it to check if everything is good.
4. Figure out which of the two works best for you.

A while ago I did a few tests and OBS Studio (free, here: https://obsproject.com/ (https://obsproject.com/)) seemed to work even better than MSI AB (less impact), even without QuickSync or NVENC / VCE.
It's a bit of a pain to configure though (and you shouldn't run MSI AB and OBSS at the same time), but maybe that improved in the latest version (unlinkely, as the complexity comes from the fact OBSS can do plenty of stuff for live streaming). Anyway, I see the lastest version now fully supports QuickSync and NVENC, so if MSI AB doesn't cut it for you, give OBSS a try.

It´s not the best workaround but setting to 480p will mostly solve the lags...
But i have the same issue as you using 720p it´s not really playable.

Looking at your system i never thought that you will get this trouble.
I´m using I7 and 8GB Ram but on a Laptop with a GTX765M and using 80% Quality , 30FPS. Multithreaded set to 8.
Reactivated my desktop for recording but if you have the issue with your system i don´t need to give it a try (AMD 955, 8GB Ram and GTX 560TI).

Don´t know if it´s a RAM issue....

Due to my GPU which is a GTX670M (the only one without much lol) I am on a laptop ASUS G75 i7 3.3GHz 16GB RAM 3GB DDR5 video memory. I record with the following using Bandicam

Game in 1920x1080
Recording 1920x1080p
30FPS
100% Quality
Format AVI MPEG-1 VBR
Audio PCM @ 48.0KHz

I get 160 FPS in game and drops a few frames but NO lag unless online where the track and many bikes start to drag it down. In game I have anti-alias at 4 only it is what drags the most on FPS. I find this is the best for recording 1st person with least lag out of ALL the settings. I have also tried every frickin software you can get.

As a note If I have to do Milestone shit for testing I drop the games to 1600x900 to get have good FPS of 60plus but in MotoGP that still gives lag!!!!!
