Title: TT 2016 is over and ...
Post by: HornetMaX on June 13, 2016, 01:05:39 PM
Am I wrong or:

I hadn't checked the stats before, probably out of fear, but now I have: since 1911, 252 deaths (counting only competitors), 29 in the last 10 years (from 2007). It's almost a freakin' 3 per year !!

Out of the 252 total, 202 are from the UK (plus 17 from Isle of Man and 6 from Ireland).

Madness.

It's a pretty damn high bill for an insanely amazing spectacle.
Yes i feel both sides of the show.  Don't ask me if its worth or not because i don't know........

I would say ask the competitors if it's all worth it and you'll have the answer.... I'm pretty damn sure all would say "Of course the risk is worth it!"  ;D

For them there is no risk just the challenge and how fast they can complete that challenge, yes it's a crazy sport but the madness doesn't out weigh the success for them to be happy.

The death toll this year was unusally high (no really bad weather etc) just an unfortunate year.

I think Guy Martin put it well-

"People are killed at the TT every year, but nobody makes them do it"

Every rider must understand the risk they take by riding the course. It's never going to be safe.

All 'extreme' sports have a high fatality rate, its not just the TT. I chose one at random before posting - skydiving, 650 since 2004

If people want to do these things all you can do is make it as safe as reasonably possible and let them get on with it.

Also, why does it not suprise me that the 2 smoke did naff :P

It's a shame to see a development bike not do well, look at the Norton for example. It's been here 4 years now and is still slow. Best soundsing bike out there though (well, after the triumph ;D)

They don't get enough real world running time get the bike good for racing and yhere is only so much testing on circuit will help.

The Norton didn't seem to bad, at practice it had highest top speed and did some quite ok laps, give the bike to Hutchy, Dunlop or McGuinness and you will see it over 130mph me think :)

Suter is a different story, i am not really sure that 2-stroke bikes are the best choice for this kind of track as it will probably always have a few engine issues running those kind of high consistent RPM's at longer periods at a time. Unfortunately as 2 strokes blasting around the TT would be absolutely bloody good sounding! Would surely improve the TT with a few more 2strokes haha

hutchy did the senior with a engine from his superstock bike.

and like everytime, I am kind of disappointed because apart from some youtube videos I couldn't see a single race properly.

they really should invest into some cameras or have a stream with onboard all the time.

..anyway, nobody expected the suter to do too well, they were struggling to get 180hp reliably because the fuel injection was not even close to being optimal.
