Title: [beta] A-7000 Road
Post by: BerScott on April 23, 2014, 03:04:08 PM
Hi! I'ts me again ;D

The A-7000 road, or better known as "Camino de Colmenar", is a 7.3km real country road located in a mountain range of Málaga, Spain. It is also part of a beautiful natural reserve about 12km from my home. This road has been used for rally events for several years and some petrolheads used to cruise it; let's call it the "Mulholland Drive" of Málaga.

Beta download: Mediafire (http://www.mediafire.com/download/5lqhlp95oy5aeg5/A7000_v0.4b.rar)

Edit: Please, take in mind it is an early, early, early version of the mod. It could has some visual errors like trees with only one sided faces. As Piboso doesn't support timing for point-to-point tracks I've not registered the track in the official time boards. Have fun.

Some additional info of the route: Google Maps (https://www.google.es/maps/dir/36.7431662,-4.4109791/36.7704741,-4.375936/@36.7597519,-4.3985293,2782m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m4!4m3!1m0!1m0!3e0).
A video from a ride: Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4X5ZSqA-yM)

The track has been original made by liquido for Richard Burns Rally and later converted for rFactor. I've done a huge texture rework to improve the immersion feeling and be able to have a virtual ride, but I'm already awaiting to have permission from liquido to release. I must mention -and it is in sight- that it is plenty of armcos, ditchs, trees and close turns, so remember to ride happy and safe ;).

Wow, that looks sick. That would be the most beautiful road track in GP bikes i guess. Can somebody explain how a point to point track in GP bikes will work? Do you have to go to the pit at the end or something?
Title: Re: [WIP] A-7000 Road
Post by: BerScott on April 25, 2014, 02:45:06 PM
@iVolution PiBoSo tracks needs to set a centerline following the main road track path, the problem is that the centerline must be closed joining the start and end of the line. The only way to follow the track path and close the line is making a huge round with the line and joining the start/end (see picture).

The real main problem actually is that there's no way to record a "lap" time from a point to point track, because right now it is only possible to assign one start/finish single line unlike other sims where you are able tu place an independent line to start and finish respectively. But that doesn't mean that is impossible to make a ride from start to the end of the track, but you just can't record a complete lap time. I can solve this assign split time lines and have it as a reference for the timing.

For now the only solution is to ask PiBoSo if is it possible to add the option to make a centerline with the start and finish points in different places, same for the start/finish lines. As said, anyway you can ride the track and configure different pit places to make people start without crash one to other.

Yes, the request for "linear" tracks (A to B) has already been made along ago.

One thing that could be funny, instead of the "long circle arc" to get back from point B (arrival) to point A (departure) would be to have the very same track as A to B, but moved slightly off and used the other way around.

Ultra-raw rewording: build the track A to B, copy it and paste it a little aside (so that  there are no intersections), obtaining a portion A' to B'. Now connect B with B' and A to A'.
When riding B' to A', you're actually riding the same road, the other way round.

Not sure how easy this is to do, but it's probably better than the "big arc". Mind, the track files could become too big.

Post by: BerScott on April 25, 2014, 02:57:02 PM
@HornetMaX I had the same idea but you wouldn't get a real uphill/downhill timing, you would get the sum of them. Also there's no much space to make a -turn manouver, only if you use "I" and "K" keys, and that would add lot of extra time.
Title: Re: [WIP] A-7000 Road
Post by: HornetMaX on April 25, 2014, 03:08:03 PM
I was thinking at something like this:

Instead of having the big circle arc, you have a copy of the same A-B track.

Timing would still be an issue of course, partially solved using splits.

Title: Re: [WIP] A-7000 Road
Post by: BerScott on April 25, 2014, 03:10:54 PM
That would mean to double the whole circuit. I barely can open and pack the main track in 3DS Max. I see that not possible :-\
Title: Re: [WIP] A-7000 Road
Post by: HornetMaX on April 25, 2014, 03:18:27 PM
Yeah, that was the (expected) problem. No biggie, we may have to wait for the proper solution or live with a "somehow boring" return trip :)

My favorite one is the second version of Juju.

It's the only version where we don't have a "loop", so we will not race 2 time the same thing by lap.

Well, in my version you don't race 2 times the same thing, as when you come back you ride it in the other direction, like on a real road.
As if once reached the end of the road you do a u-turn and ride back: same road, opposite direction.

In Juju's  1st version you ride twice an identical road, while in 2nd version when you ride back you ride on a different road: you ride the mirrored version of the road, in the opposite direction (not on the same road on opposite direction).

Too much polys and resources, also don't forget that you would see the track doubled while riding. I think it is not a really good idea ::)

BTW, I finally have permission from liquido :)

Sorry about the lack of news, but seems that liquido and I we've turned a conversion request into a new complete project oriented to be a multiplatform! So the actual 7.3km road will turn into the complete 30km road (Malaga-Colmenar). In fact I will visit him today (as he lives really close to me) to see the new elevation data with a really close terrain resolution, and probably have some beers haha.

Cheers!

If you can stretch it till south of France, try the "moyenne corniche" (Nice --> Montecarlo, most of the driving license point I've ever lost I lost them there) and the "Route Napoleon" (Grasse --> Gorges du Verdun). As a worthy contender, Cannes - St. Raphael (one way via the RN 7, on the way back on the "RN 98 route du bord de mer"): so many bikes during the nice season that even the cops just close their eyes ... once I was "stuck" behind them and they signalled with one hand that I was allowed to pass them: 20 seconds after me, 4 1000cc japs passed them too at blazing speed and one of them wheeling !

Hope someday Gpb can manage well enough real road bumps.
It doesn't in beta5. The laser scaned track can be amazing, but useless if the bike crash every bump. Hope beta6 improve this behaviour.

About 300€ per day for 2mm resolution, if I remember well. I must talk with my mate to get more details, it has been discovered by him, so I can't give so much more details. He showed me the web page with all the details and just 5min later we started to open beer cans and other stuff ::)

For those who can't play this track, like me, put off these two files from the A7000 folder:
maxrace.tl   and   minrace.tl

The centerline is probably not closed
The startline goes across the universe :)

If you want i have done a new centerline ending, not in the vacuum because the game doesn't like it, i placed 4 pit places and 4 start places, you will see that's a bit strange but we never can make race no track like this because it's not a closed track, i have done new speedtrapline and new split time doors.
Look at this and see.

Thank you for this track, it's really good but really hard. First i ride on it, my time is 4min28s, some little jumps need to be smoothed but all seems good. Thank you for this hillclimb track.

link for little changes:(put the 2 files in the A 7000 track folder an replace the existants)

I remember some people who can't play some tracks offline, with very high number of polys, but who can play online on a server.

I haven't seen your config before, Iphone is to small. Good pc but only one thing strange: the low frequency of your RAM.

Cant play the Jerez track it also crashes on load just as the A7000. So no online and offline i never driven it.

If im right i think Jamoz could not play Jerez as well, he has a GTX 780 card as well.

The ram frequency has to be counted twice....799x2=1600, it is not shown as double rated with Speccy

Oke just tested it.

- Launched my own dedi server with Jerez track.
- Connected from same pc through launching GPbikes - World - Servername - connect.
- I could join and drive

If i do a test session on Jerez it crashes on loadup.

I also did the same procedure for the A7000 track, launching my own dedi server and also a test session
but that still crashes on loadup both times.

Ok, for jerez it's a size problem, perhaps your hdd cache(don't know in english) memory is to small, jerez is composef by more than 500 000 polygons.
For A7000 it´s perhaps the same problem but im going to reupload my personnal files, and i hope it will works for you and other. Before that i post the new laguna seca entirely remastered.:)

Here is the link for the exactly same A700 track as mine, i come on the track near the start line and not rear the truck, backup you other A7000 version and replace by mine. Say to me if it works not:

Keep getting a core crash on the latest beta when I try to watch a replay, is that track related?  ???

This track has no track cameras so you can't watch a replay other then Orbit view. Same with Ulster GP.

Which version should I use? januacarre's link or this one in first post?

Anyway, good track. Hope to see final version.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I remember, this is not a closed road track, it is open point to point road?

Hawk.

Seems it's point-to-point track. But there are two links for this track.

If you upload that version and send me a download link I'll put it in the track database as long as we can actually race on it.  ;)

Hawk.
