Title: ESC Key and Throttle.
Post by: Klax75 on March 07, 2016, 11:57:24 PM
Things have been going fine, then a couple a days ago something weird happened. I can no longer hit ESC, it doesn't let me quit out from the track and go back to the pits. I have to force quit GP Bikes. So I can't save any replays, or make any adjustments. I've also noticed at the same time this happened my controls for throttle and front brake are now locked together in the same axis. Even with Xinput in place. I've tried the ingame XBoxOne profile and made a custom one. Doesn't seem to matter. Everything was working before without problem. Only thing I did was install the new Beta of the MotoGP Ducati. But even stand bikes do the samething.

On another note, I've noticed since Beta 8, Win10 keeps asking me for Admin rights for GP Bikes folder. So it doesn't save anything in to the folder, I have to drag things to it to get them to save or update

Klax WIN10 is a bitch with admin rights with certain programs and GPB is one. You have to make sure the USER admin rights are edited to allow all actions. It is not GPB that is the problem but WIN10.

Klax try SHFT+ESC let us know if that works and if you run full screen or windowed.

Have you TOTALLY removed GPB from your system each time? Game folder in Program Files x86, GPB folder from Documents and cleaned ALL regedit records of GPB with something like CCleaner?

If WIN10 sees ANY info from an old copy it may keep acting the same way. Also when you ido a fresh install are you having to put in the key(you should have to if profile is deleted too)?

DD

Sorry to ask the obvious but it happens to all of us lol

Post by: r1rossi on March 08, 2016, 01:37:27 PM
Yes,

I will do it again to make sure.

2 times i have seemingly fully removed it.

I will go through every folder possible and try again.

Each time i have re installed i have had to put my license in yes. Reset my controller etc. Everything.

When selecting my controller layout it doesn't let me use the keyboard for any buttons which is odd also.

I wonder if you could download someone elses GPB game folder without mods is small and pasted it over your copy to see if it was a certain file from your installation.

Also, have you used only ONE downloaded copy of beta8 to install or re downloaded the installation file?

I am just throwing ideas out bro

DD

EDIT: I have space on my dropbox to upload a copy of my GPB files if you want to try a copy and paste it over your install?

Sure man, I am not against it.

Email is mugnem1@hotmail.com if that helps

EDIT: i have re downloaded it 2 times.

I will do it and leave the download link here with the gpbikes ini etc as standard ok. Will take a while as I am video editing right now. Will be as quick as possible.

EDIT:

Heres my GPB folder. https://www.dropbox.com/s/f0jo48odw4otrfc/GPB%20Folder.rar?dl=0 (https://www.dropbox.com/s/f0jo48odw4otrfc/GPB%20Folder.rar?dl=0)

I recommend you unpack the rar file with winrar to a drive you have full permissions for or to a folder with full permissions if not. Re-name the folder to your game folder name, right click it to check properties/security for USER and make sure you have all permissions then copy it and paste it into Program Files (x86) or where you have the game folder. Let it over write and then right click it to check properties/security for USER again and you may have to re edit permissions but it should work.

Check your security settings for Windows by the way. I leave mine low to allow me to do shit lol.

Hope this helps. I will keep looking into it.

So , removing everything and re install, nope, completely froze computer.

I have had windows 10 since the day it was released and not once had an issue. So i find it VERY weird that even since the original B8 was released i was lapping online with everyone having fun.

Literally out of nowhere this happened.

Nothing new has been downloaded or added...

I will try to copy and paste your setup..

EDIT: i listened to your rules.

I think i now have access to ESC , i somehow adjusted to FULL permission on USERS and i quickly tried..

BRB

EDIT #2 :after connecting my xbox one controller, it will not allow me to use the ESC button even in settings to bring to main menu, when disconnecting and trying, it works.

Could it be my controller messing stuff up?

Final update. When using my keyboard, setup the keyboard to play the game , everything works. Including the ESC .

I have no idea HOW my controller i have been using for a while would randomly cause these errors????

So sorry I could not help. I think there was some problem with new updated drivers for xbox controllers. I suggest you look on xbox sites to see. Do a search for it and maybe something will pop up.

There are a couple of threads about this, one I started on MXB forum and one someone else started here. It was a Windows update the other day.

I find if I use xinput and unplug my controller before starting MXB, then plug it in when I'm in the menus everything works fine. It's a pain but a workaround for me..

Someone here though I'm sure said it didn't work for them however. Good luck!

From what I've read around (MXB forum: http://forum.mx-bikes.com/index.php?topic=852.0 (http://forum.mx-bikes.com/index.php?topic=852.0)) the problem seems to be in one of the recent Win10 updates.

Ok, I tried unplugging the controller and plugging it back in. Didn't work for me. Still can't get ESC to work and my throttle and front brake are still stuck together. I even took out Xinput to see, still doing the same thing very frustrating. I haven't been able to play since I can't pit or watch a replay. :/

On a side note, I did run some laps knowing I would have to force quit. Had to reset my buttons again, but oddly rumble works. On the 500cc, using XB1 controller when I shift my controller rumbles, if I do a wheelie and the tire hits the ground it rumbles. If my front wheel starts to shutter it rumbles. Never rumbled at all previous.

Yep, didn't do anything for me, still no ESC and the throttle and front brake are locked together. Thanks for the post and suggestions though. :)

Yep, tried that didn't seem to help. Had it installed and tried it without it being installed too.

How about choosing different controller drivers in device manager? If you update driver then browse or choose manually (can't remember option name) you can pick different drivers that come with Windows..

Ok, I've unplugged the XB1 controller. I've plugged it in after GPB's starts, didn't help still have the same issue. Just listed the controller as ------- and still had to quit GPB's to get it to register. I've reinstalled GPB's throwing away my old GPB documents folder other then my license. Made brand new profiles. Put the liscense back in place after reinstall. No MOD's no tracks. No MaxHUD either. Didn't work still no ESC key, and throttle and brake still linked. I've tried taking out XInput, didn't help. Looked through device manager. Only two things I can find relating to my controller. Was XBox Controller, undrer XBox Controller Peripherals, and under Human Interface Devices is XInput. If I disable the controller XInput disappears and the controller won't register. If I disable XInput doesn't seem to have any effect on things.

So I can't play unless I want to force quit every time and not pit, at all. :/ Also still have to re-input my controls button map in every time.

People have been curing the need to remap every time by creating a new profile and deleting the default unnamedprofile completely. Seems to be a little bug. As for your controller it's keeping me from updating from 8 to 10 for a while longer methinks. Hope u fix it. Would be interesting to see if an xbox 360 controller works on your system as it works in game with W10 others say. Have you access to one to try?

Everything was working perfect until there was a tiny update to Win10 a week or two ago.

Sorry mate.. out of ideas.

If you unplug the controller while in game, can you then use escape? I seem to remember this worked for me and thinking I'm in for a lifetime of unplugging / plugging in every time I wanted to do something.

I have not said anything as I have had no problem with this until the other day. I am working with this guy to fix button bounce in GPB and he gave me his program he uses for Pcars and other racing games to adjust steering. The program app "dxACE" is added to the game folder and then works in game, BUT when I used it, I had no use of my esc key in GPB??? I removed the files and it worked again.

So..................I told Dwayne and he made one just for GPB and it works fine no problem. The point is, the files that I put in the GPB folder were to do with Xinput and they upset GPB because apparently GPB has some issues. He is looking into it and with luck can come up with some help.

I will get back asap with an update.

So if uninstalling the Windows update that caused it doesn't work then how about bringing up the virtual keyboard running the game in windowed mode and sliding it out of the way to get to the esc key when you need it. Temporary fix (if it works) until MS patch it?

Just a thought, but have you tried cleaning your registry after uninstalling the update that caused the problem? Maybe something is left in the registry that is still causing a problem?

Another but drastic solution would be to re-install Win 10(or better still go back to WIN 7 because let's face it, Win 10 is not needed right now and holds no real benefit apart from having the latest OS).
I'm certainly not planning to install Win 10 for at least another year or two yet simply because I cannot see any particular benefits to do so.  :)

I think you've hit the nail on the head there Nick with "sh*t" being the operative word. Hehe  ;D

There's an old wise saying, that if it works why change just for change sake?  ;) :)

I've not heard anyone tell me a good reason for installing Win 10 yet, so until development houses stop supporting Win 7 I'll be sticking to the devil I know for at least another year or two, or after I hear that they've fixed all the little quirky annoyances.  :)

That's the wise approach. The only "reason" for Win10 would be DX12, but I guess that for GPB we're not really concerned :)

That until the day Microsoft stops supporting Win7, but that shouldn't be too soon.

I had the exxact same issue.. This is the only thing that works for me and how or what it does i do not know.

I have 2 xbox one controllers. One used for Xb1 and one for the game..

I need to plug in 1 controller after gpbikes is loaded on the main screen. I then have to go to the track i want etc, and wait for it to load you to the track. For me it is excessivly laggy still until i disconnect the controller and plug in the OTHER xb1 controller and then it is absolutley flawless.

I have tried both controllers in reverse and doesn't make a difference.. SO FRKING weird but it works amazing...

PM me if you have questions....

I understand that it worked on Windows 10 before the update.
Has anyone tried to remove the update yet - for example the one that's mentioned in the link h106frp posted? (Maybe I missed something, but nobody said it works or it doesn't.)
The same for Nick's proposal to try the virtual keyboard?

Ok, fixed it.

After reading some of the post and link suggestions here (Thanks) I removed Windows updates KB3140768 & KB3140743, then downloaded a Microsoft app, to hide those updates and not download them to wait for newer ones. Restarted my computer and everything works. I put XInput back in the GPB folder and that works. MaxHUD works. Had to reset calibrate it in game and redo my buttons. But everything is working fine now..

Really wish the XBox division and the Windows divisions would I don't know talk to each other!? lol I mean you put out a update weeks ago that literally breaks your own peripherals. lol

The Windows App, but it only let me do it once. Now it says I need a support code. Weird.
