Title: Will everybody find out that there are other tracks/bikes?
Post by: iVolution on January 12, 2014, 11:14:47 PM
As I was just wondering... Does the average GP Bikes user find out that there is more to GP Bikes than just Victoria Circuit and three bikes?

I guess not everybody that buys the game will visit this forum, and since a newbie to GP Bikes does not have any other tracks installed he/she will not know that there are other servers hosted with different tracks. The official "server stats" page is not something you are going to search for if you do not know of it's existence. for example, in the beginning I was not aware that there was a records page that kept track of the best times until i randomly stumbled upon it.

It might be an idea to just always show all the other servers when in game, even though you might not have the track. By now I got used to looking at the server stats page to see how many people are actually online and on what tracks, but I guess that might be just me.
Are we "losing" people because they are not aware of the extra's GP bikes has to offer or are there no ignorant people that buy this game?  ;D

Option 1 for me. Ready to bet my left kidney and 3 quarters of my liver.

Yes , i think the same, i use to look also in the server stats too see how many people online.
Pretty sure we are missing people in other traks because they only see Victoria online.

I agree guys.

It maybe a good idea whenever you post videos on YouTube to put some kind of text in the description that will welcome and steer people to the forum for more detailed info on GP Bikes? Just and idea. :)

The best solution, I think, is that Piboso will show all online servers in the "World" list, but show the servers with incompatible tracks in another color. This should not be too hard to implement since Gp Bikes already knows which tracks are installed and just needs to show the other servers as well. Having a data mismatch however can not easily be solved since I think you first have to try and connect before the game detects wrong versions of bikes/tracks.

As for the reason (i think) piboso does not show all the servers already, might have something to do with him not wanting unlicensed content being visible from the standard installation of the game? Since I remember GTR and Rfactor doing the same i guess that should not pose any problems.

I don't think that's the case as as soon as you have the mods installed, the servers are indeed shown. Most likely the idea was to show only servers you can actually connect to.

I think too it would be better to show all the servers and grey-out the ones you cannot connect to due to missing tracks.

PiBoSo should add some screenshots of different bikes and tracks on the GP Bike website. And add some beautiful tracks under the track tab. Paul Ricard, Monza,...

There is a direct link to the forum but I guess a reference to the Modding Community and perhaps some choice pictures
of Bikes and Tracks would be pretty cool. IMHO, I feel the best is yet to come.  ;)

I think it is not possible for Piboso to advertise with converted or unlicensed content, which most tracks and bikes are. Honda, yamaha, aprilia and piagio did not agree on licensing their bikes to GPbikes and therefor it might be illegal for Piboso to advertise with content that he does not have the rights to.
