Title: Usernames
Post by: Grooveski on October 06, 2017, 03:45:08 pm
You wonder sometimes where folk get their usernames from.
...so for a giggle I thought I'd wonder out loud.  :D

To get the ball rolling:

Groove Champion - Auto Vigilante!  8)
Star of what I'd still rank as one of the most entertaining games I've ever played - Interstate 76.
My heart's racing just looking at a screenshot of it.    ;D  Fond memories!

Was the first game I ever played online - when you connected the first time everyone forgot to enter a name, joined as Groove and got a slagging for it (like <unnamedprofile>  :P )
...so I popped back out the room, added a few letters(always did like names ending in ski - kinda cheery sounding) and popped back in again, thinking 'I'll dream up a good username tomorrow'...

...and here we are - 20 years later.   ::)

When I met Linda Lusardi she said I was hot stuff so...... ;D

Then I woke up...

Vietcong : First game I played multiplayer, and went on to form a mutli country clan, competitions and all sorts of great fun. Learning server hosting and commands, writing missions every week etc etc. Made and still have some good friends from it.

https://www.youtube.com/v/M20_jBEVtwc

I hear people are still playing Vietcong even now. An amazing game. So the username is a tribute to those times, always used it not changing now, even if dated and not particularly PC.  Certainly not disrespectful some things should not be forgotten.  :(

Easy!

My name is Matty, 0L215 was a random selection of character beacuse the username Matty was already taken on Runescape (old Web Java based MMO) but I gave that up years ago and the name just stuck :P

I used to be in a music band. When I created a song that wont be part of our music, I recorded them as Alone.
When I started to play GPBikes in beta 7 (I came from gp500), I saw myself so alone, no AI, no internet at home to play online, that reminds me those tapes, so that's my reason :)

For me, my main initials are CJ. I did a bit it club racing in the north of England and some in Scotland between 1960 to 1964. Then in 1964, on a road bike, Ducati, a car hit me and I lost my right leg. So that was the end of motorcycle racing and riding for me. That said, the day I came out of hospital, my palls whisked me off for a camping weekend, and to cut a long story short, I illegally got on to a motor bike, a 350 BSA, not mine, but owned by a pal, and rode it down a very winding road in the English Lake district, changing gear by bending down with my hand. The doctors had told me that I would never ride a motorcycle again. Me, I had to prove them wrong. I did !!!

My other passion in life has been sailing, and I am a fully qualified commercial skipper, and for the last 30 years have been involved in delivering sailing and power vessels from anywhere to anywhere world wide. Now at 74 I am retied from professional sailing ,but still keep my hand in with short trips.

So Seajay represents the initials of my name and 64 is the year I nearly died, but together they bring me back to one of the most happiest periods of my life.

Thank you for reading

Seajay 64

My real name is Grzegorz, but sometimes it's also pronounced Grzechu and I decided to write it as Gzehoo. This "-oo" should be read the same as in "Yahoo".

"Gonzo", cause I'm a journo and I like the work of Hunter S Thompson and his Gonzo journalism. #46 is obvious. Can't remember why my name on the forum isn't Gonzo46... I probably fucked something up when I registered. Anyways, David is my first name and Boda is my last so...

Cheers,

/David "Gonzo" Boda #46

PiBoSo is the acronym of Piccola Bottega del Software, Italian for Little Workshop of Software, a little homage to Little Shop of Horrors, the Frank Oz 1986 film.

JJ are the initials of my first hyphenated name and the S is for the family name.
209 stands for the second of september where i've had a very bad motorcycle accident back in 2011.
its to have my "second birthday" always in my mind.

Manu, short name of Manuel (my name)

Manuel is a Hebrew name (עִמָּנוּאֵל,'ImmānĂ»'ēl) that means "The God that is with us" or "The God that is between us". In the Bible Jesus of Nazareth is named in its original form "Emmanuel".

That was the console version made by the same crew.  A pal had it and yeah - it was a hoot too.   ;D
There was later PC version as well, Interstate '82, which played better in just about every way but didn't have the soul of the original.
...or the funk.    :)
....or the poetry.   ::)
.....or the questionable language.   :P

My nick name is from a YouTube channel me and a old friend of mine wanted to open. I have no idea why we chose this name, we were kids back then ;D. But we never did anything on the channel, but I still like the name and the initials MCF :) You can search my name on YT, I did some MotoVlogs, but here in germany the weather is so bad, you can not ride  :'(

I'm from a country wich i think people had the longest name in the world, my full name is : NJATOHARIJAONA radomampionona Tiaray (good luck trying to read it  ;D). My parent give me the surname "poun' wich is a shorten version of "mampionona" read "mampiun". My wife call me pouny, but i had an uncle that never managed to call me "poun". He always called me "Poum". So the first time i created an email address, i don't know why but the first name that came into my brain was poumpouny  ;D.

No waaaaaay ! I thought you were a young man, like 18 years old !  ;D

One day in High school, at the end of the year, in june, I discovered that my best friend had indeed massive boobs (puberty done right) because the rest of the year, she was wearing large clothes. So I called her Pamela, in tribute to Pamela Anderson.
This day I was wearing a red short :/ So, she nicknamed me "Mitch" (Bay watch references) This nickname stick to me to end of high school. A lot of people didn't even new my real name ^^

When I started to play online, I wanted to make it more unique, I just reversed it and it sounded good ! It's prononced Tsh-a-mee by the way. Not 'take me' or 'tkemee' or whatever

Died from blood loss when I was 14 years old, revived with an 8 pint of blood transfusion (losing it as fast as they pumped it in during surgery after bringing me back), paddles to the chest and all, major medical intervention. Ended up with a 20" BMX bike handlebar impaling me under the left side of my chest, punctured my spleen and broke a few ribs in the crash... end of my career as a rider of any sort. Just for fun now. Had to learn how to walk again too.

I assume a great deal of you have a good grasp on the English language. Here is a video about a man that should be remembered for what he did to save people that push life to the limit, to every extent you can find, you live as fullest of a life as you can. Men like John Hinds saved my life the day I was flat lining on the way to the emergency room.

*Too lazy/drunk/tired from work to try to embed this, worth a watch though, rapid response doctors are the most amazing people on the planet*
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsZBXlTHPCg

When I met up with my friends after I was most of the way recovered and back home, they said "You cheated the Grim Reaper!".... and Grimm just stuck after a friend started calling me by the nick name. 33 years old now, I am known as "Ratty", but leave that for IRL occasions or occurrences where something to do with my actual motorcycle riding or building has to do with it.

Yeh , saw that video quite a time ago. Man, the guy was as crazy as the rest of the riders lol ;D , also had a great sense of humor, laughed a lot with that video  ;D, despite the seriously questions he was talking about.
Such an Hero, RIP.

Bonus: on steam i am called Dansken (the dane in swedish) because i am danish and played a lot with a group of swedish friends who gave me the nickname :)
