Title: Bike Mod - Discontinued
Post by: JamoZ on February 03, 2014, 06:26:55 PM
Unfortunately I`m hearing and seeing things left and right that appearently people are not happy the way the mod is managed. But instead of talking to me or coming with idea`s and suggestions to help and improve the way we work now, i have to hear and read stuff that`s aimed at me personally and that`s not really motivating to keep this running anymore. Therefore i`m pulling the plug and everyone can manage their own stuff.

I`m really sorry for the people that did enjoy and made use of the mod, but it`s also time for people to come up with their own way of handling mods, this was just created to let everyone ride and enjoy different bikes together online and have fun.

Thanks to those who DID make an effort to keep the fun going online ;)

JamoZ.

I can't download folders as zip any more. Download starts but nothing happens, 0%. Worked without a problem before 1.4. Any ideas?

Cheers.

Happens to me also from time to time - I guess it is somehow linked to how 'crowded' Mega is.... try some time later, in less crowded times...

Bound to happen as the mod gets bigger.

It may be a nice idea to split into smaller mods, per category seems natural: MotoGP, SBK, SSP, road etc. Maybe not immediately, but in the future it makes sense.

Also, it may be interesting to have the bike version in the bike name (e.g. Ducati GP8 - 1.0) and bike directory. This would allow to have two version of the same bike installed. Could be useful for comparison purposes ...

Just thoughts, feel free to comment.

The problem is that at the moment the single bike download doesnt work also. So i dont think its about the size of the mod. The downloads from hawk_uk's track folder work normal so i dont think its a problem from Mega itself

Well the individual file download works, it's only the download as .zip that seems to be not working. Annoying.

Makes me think ... why for each bike we have all the individual files instead of a single .zip/.rar ?
Would save the pain (to mega) to re-zip them ...

I believe the way MEGA download works, is that when you request a file/folder to download, it will go through the download phase then if you requested the download as a zip file it will archive that file/folder into a zip file before it gives you the option to save the download onto your computer. So if the file you want to download is very large, it will get to 100% download and then it can appear to you to have hung or stopped during the end process of the download because it's not asking you to save the download on your computer? I recommend you give MEGA time to archive the downloaded file/folder into the requested zip file before you decide that MEGA has stopped working; sometimes, especially if the requested download file is large, this can take several minutes before MEGA will ask you to save the file on your computer.

I have also recently found out that MEGA has a 10GB dynamic download limit on the free accounts; a very generous limit it may be, but it could be possible that the 10GB download limit has been reached. The 10GB dynamic download limit once reached will reset after 10 minutes, so if this is found to be the problem you should only have to wait 10 minutes before you can start any downloads again with that 10GB max limit.

Hope this helps you guys. ;)

I have decided to upload the bikeset in mediafire because today i only can download one or two parts of one bike. I tried to download one bike part by part, for 2.2Mo i have waited more than 10min and nothing happens, and i have repeated many times the action.
I don't know if all bikes i upload are the same as the last published, but i think no big changes have been made from the first release, perhaps sound for certain bike, for help say me what changed from the first release.
I will publy the links here when all will be uploaded.
For information:
I use last firefox, i tried download as zip, simple download, download part by part of one bike(edf, next edf and so and so....). Don't know what happens but i will test to upload in zip or rar archives(not in simple file like in bikeset mod), it will be a better result, probably.

I have just tested the download on the individual bikes, and yes, for some reason they are not downloading when I requested the download as a zip file.

JamoZ. I suggest contacting MEGA support to find out what the problem is.

Uploaded the zips again, please try and see if it works better now

Only tested it fully for the Daytona Bike because it was the smallest file at just 16.9MB(Which surprised me how small it was compared to the other files), but anyway, it downloaded fine. Also started all the other files downloading before cancelling them just to test if they start to download, and they did, so I guess they'd be fine to download too.

Done. But why are you changing a bike and keep the old Mod version number?? It's quite irritating for everyone.

Hi JamoZ.

Just to let you know that you have multiple same name paint files in the paint folders. Also in the paints folder you are missing the R6 and Yamaha M1 paints folders/ files.

I `m still uploading hawk...mega is a real pain in the ass, and i`m thinking of moving to another platform. Uploading a single paint folder took me almost an hour because it stopped uploading after 2 paints. If you have a alternative to Mega i`m glad to hear it...

Sorry JamoZ, I don't know of any that allow for multiple folder/file storage(Same as your PC) like MEGA. Most others are single file type downloads full of popups and crap, also limited in storage size, MEGA has 50GB storage, that's very generous.

I've only hit MEGA twice before were uploads was very slow. You have obviously hit MEGA at a busy period. Most of the time downloads are at 1.7MBS and uploads at 745KBS, which for a free service is brilliant.
Best thing to do is upload first before posting about updates, that way you won't get people posting about files missing. This will also give you the advantage that if you do hit MEGA during a busy period you can just cancel your uploads till a later time when MEGA is less busy.

It works utterly better if you upload already zipped files: less chances for it to stop  in the middle of a big folder, less overhead.

You have to run your editor (notepad or whatever) in administator mode.
Or, copy the sfx.cfg from its directory to your desktop, the edit it there, then copy it back.

Changelog - v1.5 - 2/21/2014

*Sidenote :

We need to think of a different way to manage the mods for online use. This can`t keep going on forever. Chance is big i will probably get drawn away from GPB soon when some other games of interest come out. If we don`t have a centralized solution for the mods, then there is no use even creating mods as noone is ever going to be able to ride online due to different versions, servers and missing downloads. If you have any idea how to change this i will be more then happy to hear it. For now i can handle all the incoming new stuff, but i have the feeling it gets more frustrating with every new mod for people to keep up.

I see that some (not all) bikes have wrong name (e.g. RCV213 instead of RC213V).

Here is my proposition for correct bike names. It's not that I want you to change the names now in Bike Mod v1.5, it's only my proposition.

Full name (short name)

Yamaha YZR-M1 (YZR-M1)
Honda RC213V (RC213V)
Suzuki GSV-R (GSV-R)
Ducati Desmosedici GP8 (GP8)
Ducati Desmosedici GP12 (GP12)
Honda CBR 1000RR (CBR 1000RR)
Aprilia RSV4 (RSV4)
Ducati 996 R (996 R)
Suzuki RGV500 (RGV500)
Triumph Daytona 675 (Daytona 675)
Yamaha YZF-R6 (YZF-R6)

Title: Re: Bike Mod - Discontinued
Post by: Arvoss on February 25, 2014, 07:37:30 AM
The bike database was nice and useful but the way the mod pack is used online is not. My mods where always up to date but I can imagine that not everyone wants to update their mod pack to join a lobby where only 2 bikes are used. We were getting to many wip bikes that are updated every week. A lot of datamismatches. This is not JamoZ his fault, it's the way it's used in GP Bikes. For example: Why do I need a scooter and a 675 to join a lobby where we're riding 1000cc bikes?

Solution:
Instead of choosing the bike class of the lobby we should be able to choose the bikes. Before joining the lobby we can clearly see which bikes we will need.

A mod base like that will be impossible to update in a couple of weeks/months.

JamoZ, thank you for the work! :D Now we will wait until we have something like rfactor central ;)

Title: Re: Bike Mod - Discontinued
Post by: HornetMaX on February 25, 2014, 10:58:18 AM
I quote essentially everything Arvoss has written above: people doing a 500cc old school race having to have the entire mod to join is not really they way to go.

By the way, if the server only allows for a certain bike category (e.g. GP500), then it should check that the players connecting do have installed only the bikes of that category: what's the point of obliging to have the other bikes ? That's something Piboso may want to change, even if it won't solve the whole problem.

Of course all this is not your fault Jamoz: if something, we should thank you for dedicating your time to helping us all. It has been useful for a while and has permitted to start reasoning about how we may want to organise all this mess.

In the medium/long term, managing all this would have been a nightmare for you anyway.

MaX.

If any user want open a new MEGA and put all bikes and update it frequently I will be glad to share it via Twitter. But I think we should use a web like http://www.racingsimulationgames.com/ to upload all content and organice it, or maybe do any similar http://www.rfactorcentral.com/

Lluisete Sorry, but I want to close my web. A week ago I received an e-mail provider's website, that I have to confirm my personal details and make them public by a law ...

I upload a download to my  website of a motorcycle copy of: Mileston , capcom or any other brand and they can denounce me for copy their work. And they have my personal information, which facilitates my provider's website.

NOT want to pay a fine of thousands or millions of euros that I have no I'll have.

I have plans to continue only with the youtube channel

The only solution. Is to create jobs from 0, 100% created from 0. Better or worse than Mileston, Capcom or any other brand, but from 0. For GP500 created without copying from other games with copyright, 100% created from 0 and there are no issues of law or copyright.

In reality is not possible that capcom or milestone denumces you. You are just sharing the work of modders without any economical beneficit. Nowadays exist tons of webpages that share films, videogames and a lot of stuff and the admins gains a lot of money and cinematic companyes candt do nothing. Internet is freedom. But I undestand your point of view.

If you want you can host a new webpage in Russia and you will be totally inmune.

This is bad news really :(

However, what about letting the mod creators manage the mods? We could create a MEGA account with user name and password accessible for forum members. So everyone could upload newer versions of bikes/paints there....

Open dropbox would not be a good idea btw - people mess it up always and one could easily upload malware to other people's pcs..

BTW: In the long term an in-game solution would be best (automatically p2p downloading bikes, paints and tracks when joining server).

All due respect, lluisete, but you are SO wrong..... It doesn't matter whether you are sharing ripped work without gain or not, it doesn't matter whether you have changed or modified the ripped file it is still someone else's work that is being used without permission, and therefore you are still supplying that track or model illegally if you have not sort the permission of the company or person who originally created it, simple as, there is no getting around it, no matter how much you support a totally "Free Internet"(Free sharing all around the world for nothing) people who create a product still have rights to prosecute for plagiarising their hard work.
But I think the net is starting to close in on people who plagiarise others work since ISP's are starting to be held responsible to act with regards to the content on their servers.

Don't get me wrong. I sympathise about the situation, I really do, I'm all for a free internet to a certain degree, but times are a changing. ;)

PS: I think even with all the corruption in Russia that allows them to get away with this sort of thing without restriction will sooner or later come to an end, or Russian originated web addresses will simply be blocked by western ISP's.

JamoZ... It's a sad day that you have decided to finish the Multi Bike Mod and paints database. You were doing a great job I thought considering the multitude of updates from week to week.

It's not easy to do this sort of thing.... a lot more work than people realise, and yes, you will always get those that are not happy with the way you do things, but you just have to realise that you cannot please everyone in this world,  just do things the way you feel is best to do them; yes by all means take on board others ideas if they are good ideas, but in the end you have to do it the way you think is best. ;)

I have been thinking of maybe taking up the rains to do the paint database again, but I'm just so busy right now that I don't know whether to do it or not.

Now JamoZ has sadly stopped, I really hope somebody else will take on the task of organising the easy supply of Mod Bikes and Paints for the bikes or things are soon going to descend into a chaotic mess with everyone asking were to get this and that bike or paint all the time, like it was before myself and Jamoz got things organised for the easy accessibility of the Tracks/Paints and Mod Bikes... Come on guys, someone else must be able to organise this?

Hawk_UK is, of course, right. The sentence "Internet is freedom" made me laugh a good one.

And by the way, "free internet" (which is good) has nothing to do with copying or distributing other's work, authorized or not.

However, I'm not sure the risk is really big: especially when ripping stuff from older games and modifying it heavily. Also, the fact the ripped material has no commercial goal whatsoever (none at all, not even web advertising), then the argument is pretty weak.

@BRM: you uploaded a copy of what ? Because if you uploaded a copy of a whole game, then this is definitely a problem.

Keep in mind that the paint database is up to date and open to grab for all. So for the one who wants to take that simpel task on him, it`s just a matter of downloading the database and reuploading it again...

By the way, if the server only allows for a certain bike category (e.g. GP500), then it should check that the players connecting do have installed only the bikes of that category: what's the point of obliging to have the other bikes ? That's something Piboso may want to change, even if it won't solve the whole problem.

This is what should already happen: only bikes of the set category are checked.

these people are "cyber criminals" change every 9 or 10 months hosting and domain, is crazy and a waste of money, to avoid the law. They make money from advertising and waste that money in change hosting and domain.

Excellent then ! Does it also works with "user-created"  categories ?

Guess the ones having trouble were then referring to the "Open"  servers, where you have to have all the bikes.

Minor risk if your website only references that content, in my opinion.

Notice however that as soon as you have a web-site, it is normal for your provider/host  (and hence for the authorities, if needed) to know your coordinates.

If you use file hosting services however (Mega and similar), it's much harder for people to go back to you.
Still doable, but hard enough to make it not interesting except exceptional cases.

Big companies (actually big industry sectors) may want to sue Mega or similar, not individual users.

Hackers existed way before the internet. It's not internet that makes them free: it's that they love to play with fire and get away with it, combined with the fact that they are pretty smart.
If you want to give it a try go ahead. But you have to be sure about what you do.

To give you a fairly simple example, in France plenty of people downloading innocent stuff (movies, tv series etc) using p2p have been receiving letters stating that at the 3rd warning they would go to court. There are ways to avoid the issue, but if you decide to play, then you have to play for real, because if you get caught, shit can reach the roof pretty quickly.

By the way, would you be happy if SKIDROW released a keygen for GPB ?

MaX.

Aah thats a real shame you have stopped the multibike mod Jamoz. I get the reason why, i would have done the same.
People need to get the bikes themselves now, which doesn't have to be a problem if they are up to speed with what is released and used on the servers.

Hope youre still around for some occasional races.

Then host your own database. It`s not that difficult. Just make sure all your current bikes are up to date, zip everything into a package and share the link.

I would just stop the mod pack here (mod 1.5) until we have an easier way to host servers with different bikes. If there are new bikes we just have to host a server with that bike only. Is it possible put the link to the 1.5 mod pack again? :D
