Title: Championship: 500cc Grand Prix - ENTRIES OPEN
Post by: Myst1cPrun3 on August 09, 2019, 12:04:53 am
(https://i.postimg.cc/WzwPhCyW/GP-500.jpg) (https://postimages.org/)

Following the releases from Javiliyors of the new GP500 modpack, I thought I'd try and host a championship.

Results, Dates, and Entrants will be live here, courtesy of Gzehoo
http://gzehoo.cba.pl/gpbikes/gp500/

I've tried to do this before, but I've never really found any machines that I'd like to host, or that got a decent amount of interest with the community.

As the Mod is currently in the 'Beta' Phase, the championship won't be going ahead until all the content is added and the Mod completed, and that is when I'll open entries.

Here is a provisional Calendar and Race Length (50% of original Length) (Subject to Change, no dates as of yet):

Sweet... Hope it happens.  Seems all the championships since I have gotten the game (4 months) just fizzle out and don't end up happening.. R3 cup and stk1000 I thought would be fun but they seemed to die before they even got going.

I will test the tracks privately to ensure they're viable/working.

As for a start date, entries will be opening when Javi has fully released the GP500 MOD

Entries OPEN for the 500cc GRAND PRIX CHAMPIONSHIP NOW.

FURTHER INFORMATION

The championship will be using the GP500 Mod by javi, and the Category in use will be the modern 500cc machines, and will be going ahead in the New Year.

Entries are opening now, as I plan to have the Pre-Season Sessions over the winter, (First test at Valencia (Cheste V1.2) as per the real world, and will commence on the weekend of 02/11/2019 and 03/11/2019). Custom Skins, or a championship entry, are not required for the tests, so people can try the bikes and get a feel for if they want to enter.

This method also allows plenty of time for people to develop skins and practice with the machines further.

I will hopefully be uploading these races to YouTube, so make sure you can get round at least 2 laps without crashing. Depending on the Consistency of competitors, the race length may be adjusted. Currently the provisional Race length is at 50% of the real world, (Around 10-12 laps), but this may be either raised or lowered depending on feedback. Personally I'd run 100% length races but I appreciate not all entrants would want to do that.

NOTE: The Aprilia Will NOT be used for this championship. This is  because its lack of power compared to the other bikes makes it so much easier to ride, to the point of which everyone would be using it. The Bike should not be available in the selected category anyway.
(It currently is but Javi said he'd release an update for it)

Please make sure you have a personal skin, or at least a custom number on an existing skin, and ensure that number matches with the selected number on your profile. This makes timekeeping easier, and it also helps when I upload the races to YouTube, as viewers who don't know us can see who is who.

I have tutorials up on my YouTube on how to make Skins, so there really is no Excuse for not doing. I'm sure Javi would provide a template for your chosen machine to sort out as well.

I will gladly put numbers on skins if it is required, found here - https://forum.piboso.com/index.php?topic=7272.0

Enter below in the specified Format:

Is the points system a recreation of a GP500 era?
I can't really remember how it worked back in the day.  I've a vague recollection of a change in the early 90s but thuoght it was top 10 that scored then, not top 8.

I'm bringing it up because I'd rather we used the current FIM system, with points down to 15th.  I can easily go a whole season outside the top ten, and if I'm having a season-long battle with someone and neither of us are scoring, how will we know who came out on top at the end?   :-\

Backmarkers need the odd point too.   ;D

I am still not sure on how the points will work, at the minute, with the amount of players and stuff, 8 seemed like a good average for all entrants.

Just for reference, the 8 man system is actually the old mid 2000s f1 scoring.
If we get more entries It will be considered.
Also considering a point for fastest laps, and points for clean laps.

As for knowing who came out on top, the results are saved and the championship will go on countback results if there is a tie. (Who finished ahead the most)

Waiting for full release of a gp500 mod? idk i think you will be waiting a long time, i've never seen a mod this size leave a beta phase before... I really hope it does though this championship would be sooooooo good!

Its already out. Javi Released it on his discord. (Bikes at least, we have most of the track, as a matter of fact the proposed season is the entire '98 Grand Prix season)

Now I'm just waiting on a refinement to get the Aprilia out of the Modern 500 category so It can be banned 100% in the championship. Not that its a bad bike, or that its a worse quality, just that its reduced power make it easier to use In GPB, so if it was left in it would be the only bike used, and variation is good

Quote from: Chispifumy on October 13, 2019, 05:38:59 pmHi all!

Depends on competitor availability.

At the minute we're doing some open pre-season tests, the first one being on the weekend of second and third of November.

You don't have to race the championship to do those test days, more of a try before you buy to see if you can do it and enjoy it, and also to allow any issues to be ironed out.

Depending on the reaction from these tests, the schedule will be adjusted accordingly.

Not by me at the minute. My internet, although quite good, wouldn't cope with 2 PC's, hosting for everyone else, and whatever other devices are on at the time I don't think, but I will be looking into it.

I will be recording and my perspective, (As I'm Racing too) and the replays uploaded to YouTube.

Also, I'm a noob who is incapable of live-streaming.

That being said, if anyone else wants to Stream, to either YT or Twitch or Wherever, they're more than welcome too.

Next year, probably about a week or 2 before I choose to start it. We've got plenty of time.

To be honest, depending on how the preseason goes, I'm Debating delaying the championship until the next beta.

As 16b is a nightmare for online play and loads of people have issues with it.

Huh, why is that?
What about the "All Modern" category with the modified engines?
I thought it was specifically created for the purpose of having the older bikes be on the same level as the modern ones, so that you can race them against each other.

The championship is a supposed to be a late 90s 500cc championship. This is for a few reasons,

#1

All the tracks from the 1998 500cc season are currently in GP Bikes

#2

The later Machines are easier to ride

#3

The '98 machines aren't all in GP Bikes, so having machines close to that would be ideal.

4#

Aprilia is a twin, so its lighter and has reduced power, making it easier, and much much faster in GP Bikes, so has been removed from the championship, as it would just be a GP Bikes Aprilia Cup.

I personally have no interest in the '92 machines and by extension running them, especially with the later 500s, as the tech differences are too large, and even if they are made to handle the same, It just wouldn't feel right for me personally.

so, if anything the 92 bikes will be slower/harder to ride.
so then why not include them?

Not only that, but the more selected groups a server has, the more the server lags when there are people joining the server. Narrow it down, reduce lag.

As for using the group with all the bikes on modern engines, that just is pointless for me, as it makes it 'even more' unrealistic

Yeah, I'm perhaps debating reducing it to one Honda Model, seeing as there are so many options for it. Hopefully if I reduce the Honda models available, and increase the variation of the machines.

There's one more preseason test to go, which will be in next beta, for full time championship entrants only.

The race will be a week or 2 after that, with races every other week, and a break in the mid season.

At the minute not much is happening as I don't have a Pc for now as it has broken.

When the next beta drops, the final pre-season test and start of the championship will be organised, providing the online stability is up to scratch
