@Piboso

As you stopped us asking more you wrote:

The filename ( but not the internal name, displayed in the user interface ) of paints has always been limited to 31 characters.
It is now enforced to avoid crashes, memory corruption and other issues.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Can you tell us the file name length now please that might help to start with

So basically I am screwed for the database and will have to start again and hudreds of paints can no longer be used without renaming the file name, then uploading, then downloading then testing ingame then uploading again and posting it all correct? This is a nightmare for me and will make online look bad as paints will be missing everywhere its NOT a small thing to start again. I have 16250 files to check!!!!!

DD

Edit: its no biggy only 8.43 GB and 2893 pnt files I have to do no problem...................

The frustration is understandable.
Maybe the community can help renaming the files?

If this task will turn out to be too problematic then it will be addressed in the next GP Bikes update.

I don't personally see why it was changed in the first place? Never had an issue with it, never even knew there was one since I started (beta 12)

@ Piboso

Ok, so it is just enforced you say but I always kept to within the 31 characters and my files within that are no longer working so it must be a bug?

Example:

IAS Racing DD AGV Pista 2.pnt  WORKS in beta 18b   25 characters

IAS Racing DD AGV Pista 2016.pnt WONT WORK in beta 18b ? 28 characters

This would be good if a bug?

Thanks Piboso

But I can't name a paint file (not internal) more than 10 characters... Never mind 31 characters

And there was no crashes etc that I noticed, and none that were on the forum's reported.

I had

'MP Racing suit' (14 chars)
Not working

Now it's 'MPRT Suit' (9chars) works

I dont have any paints over 28 characters and all over 26 do not work

Seems a bit of an odd problem then MPR

are certain characters now not allowed? or lowercase lol

Is there a correlation in the length of the full path of the paint files?

Thank you for the report.
Unfortunately there is indeed a bug. The code mistakenly counts the file extension as part of the 31 characters, therefore at the moment the limit is 27 characters.

OK thanks for the  update Piboso................can you PLEASE fix it as it is most file names will be a problem if this is the case?

I can't even get above 14 chars then.
As like I said my skin was below the non bugged 27 and now only works if it's below 10 (name) and 14 (with Extension)

Hello Mate, the reason it wont work is because the bikes are encrypted by the modder themself

The encrypted files format has been changed in Beta18b.

Encrypted mods must re-encrypted to be compatible with Beta18b.

Before 18 I think pretty much only Javi had access to encryption tools, so it should be only Mgp-19 and legends that have this problem?

Welcome to encyrption world people, have fun !

As if it wasn't already hard enough to keep up with GPB mods (forum ,discord 1, discord 2, ...), let's add this on top too.

All this for some modders' e-peen ... yawn.

Only just noticed - When you update to the new parameters the slipper clutch adjustment is avalable in the pits.

Brilliant!

Agree, Max! With the encryption we are now guaranteed to never get any new modders since the only way to learn is to have a look at the data of other mods.

What was the conclusion regarding the skin name length?
In any case, I quickly wrote a renaming script.
Note that if the desired (shortened) name is already taken by another file, it will append _2, _3, etc. This means that if you are very unlucky, the resulting names may vary from person to person in certain cases.

Hahaha..... What utter hysterical nonsense guys!! Haha! ;D ;D

There is plenty of data, material & tutorials around to learn modding guys..... Plus people can always ask if they have a problem, right?!

Besides.... There is only two real modders I know of here who actually creates proper MODS from scratch for GPBikes.... Anyone who doesn't create their own work shouldn't be using the encryption tool, that would be pretty hypocritical to do that, right? To steal someones work and have the gaul to then encrypt it! Who in their right mind would do such a thing, eh guys?! :o  :P  ;)

Anyway, it's happy "Discord" days..... Aren't these supposed to be the in-thing for communicating information these days... What are you guys really worried about, eh?! Lol! :P  ;D  ;)

PS: So were is the link to download this encryption tool? ;D  ;D  :P

For me if you Make a mod from scratch then you have the right to encrypt it.

If you rip a model or steal then you should p**s off wanting to encrypt it.

Ironically it's the people who do the latter that are crying for encryption.

I have made 1 bike (3 if you count the unreleased one, and a reworked M2 but I don't) and that used a r**e model and as a result I don't dream of encrypting it. It's diabolical to do so if you ask me. I'm with you there Hawk.

As for the encryption tool download you have to ask pib for it ATM which I will do when I make something worth encrypting.

As for modding itself, using only the forum's to make a mod is basically impossible. There is very little information on here about it and then the information that is there is very hard to find.
(I should know I spent since about September 2018 looking lol)

It's only since I got in contact with other community members (through Discord as it makes this kinda thing easier for constant Comms and quick references) that I've actually managed to get a bike into the game.

(I did do 1 track (Aintree Scratch build in RTB) and while the surface looked good it was a lil too bumpy and inaccurate. (V2 in the works) but even then I had no idea about the process of transferring that into GPB. Again those community members (Matty and a few others) were super helpful and he actually did the track for me from 3ds to gpb)

Hi Vini,

Thanks but I am no good at that kind of thing and the problem is if the names must be changed it should be by the modder and if not I need to figure a way to rename them to make it easy for me to keep track of what is what.

Please do not do more work on this until Piboso fixes the bug as then there will be no need to rename as I said before
