Bug Reports / Re: preloaded gear
December 17, 2013, 02:57:44 PM
I tried only the 1000 (no shift help) and the downshifting feels different indeed.

When you downshift the bike is more upset than before: I'd say that before it was not enough, maybe now it's a bit too much, someting in the middle would be OK to me (just personal opinion here), even if I probably prefer the beta4 behavior to the beta3 one.

One thing I'm not completely happy about is the fact you can't downshift quickly multiple gears (even if this means locking the rear) .... it seems to be slower than before.

Still to check the 125 and 500 (but for these I use shift help usually).

Any ideas what else could help? Hehe, don't expect me to sit the whole night in front of the servers and do a manual restart - I need my sleep.  ;)
Sleep is overrated  ;D

Bug Reports / Online issues - server side
December 16, 2013, 10:56:10 PM
Hi all,

tonight dibu's server 19 (Victoria - Training dry groove) went nut all of a sudden: lap no longer recorded (neither on the server, nor on the record page).

There were a lot of players though (I've seen at least 11).

Restart needed.

No, don't do it. It's called clean install just for fun.

YES ! Clean install. ALWAYS. Unless specified a dirty install will work too.

I'm pretty sure it was this one that someone recommended to me a couple of months ago: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Thrustmaster-Dual-Trigger-Gamepad-Blister/dp/B000U7RJ16/ref=sr_1_47?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1387204484&sr=1-47&keywords=thrustmaster+controller
Had a thrustmaster 3-in-1 before, bad bad stuff, night and day with respect to xbox 360 controller (original Microsoft, no copies). DON'T BUY IT. DON'T.

Go with the xbox 360 controller or Logitech F310.

Now that I try to play with it, I do think that it would have been much better to have the centerline stuff (int _iNumSegments, SPluginsTrackSegment_t *_pasSegment) passed as extra arguments of EventInit instead of introducing a new function (TrackCenterline). As the info is track-related, it makes sense for it to be in EventInit.

MaX.

It makes sense to have different functions, because those writing a dash plugin, or a telemetry plugin, can completely skip the centerline.
Well, ignoring two extra arguments doesn't seem very complicate.
On the other hand, as the number of quads will be only known once TrackCenterline is called, one has to defer the allocation until then (previously I was allocating everything at EventInit).

This is not a bug deal, but is TrackCenterLine called always ? Even when a track has no centerline ?

Sure sure Warlock, I was just suggesting (to nobody in particular) to ride a while before commenting the physics, as last time we had a lot of "it sucks, worse than beta2" that 3 weeks after came back as "no ok, it's much better than beta2". For other bugs, they should be reported immediately.

Personally, I played let's say 1h on Victoria (online) and had zero crashes. But then, I used to have very few even with beta3, so ...

P.S.
I realize now my usage of "spit" may be misinterpreted: I really wasn't patronizing anybody.

As a general advice to all, I'd suggest to limit initial testing of beta4 to:

  • Victoria track
  • Base bikes (no mod) and skins
Also, as we have seen with the previous betas, it takes a while before coming up with a decent judgement of how a beta feels.
Try it for 1 week and then, only then, spit out your impressions.

Example source code updated to include the TrackCenterline definition.
Can't see it yet in the download section: gpb_example.c is still as before (nothing related to the centerline).

The MaXHUD plugin will NOT work until I update it to beta4 interface. Same for MaXHELMET (and for any other plugin, mine or not).

Bad news is I'll leave for holidays on Tue morning so I doubt I'll have the time to work on this. I'll try but no warranty.

MaX.

Thanks Max.... Give it your best shot, mate; your MaxHUD plugin is a must have, it's like part of the furniture now! ;D

MaXHUD and MaXHELMET have been modified to work with beta4 (no other real changes).

Available for download in the plugins section.
