Why overloading the server with this traffic (and overloading Piboso with the development of the feature) when you can have a Mumble/Teamspeak sever and do the same ?
I don't see the point.

MaX.

agreed, no voice chat needed (guys that need it could use Teamspeak like Max suggested).... even the written chat sometimes can get annoying  ::) that's why I would propose have a hot key to disable/enable while being on track (so I could have it on until race start and then turn it off during race, in case someone who already pulled out of the race is chatting away and annoying those that are still in  :-X)

It takes much time because you have to wait until you are retired from race and the countdown for the server restart delay is over. Also you don't know which track is next without looking at the forum. That's all not good for the acceptance of casual players.

The only solution is a system like PeterV proposed.

I agree 100%, the other solution will not find much acceptance from casual players....

Please remove the warmup lap and sighting lap. It's a waste of 10 minutes and only makes people messup start position lineup. Then we have to restart the race...and another 10 minutes wasted

My personal opinion... Learn how to use it. That would save everyone a lot of time. Its not that hard, park in the box and dont move untill its time.  ;)
Servers which i launch (Cold Turkey or Old School)  will have sightning lap and warmup lap on.

Couldn't agree more, nice to see you promoting the same policy here Peter! What are warmup lap and sighting lap for irl? --> to warm up tyres, get a feeling for the track and to get into a mind-set for the race. And racing in GPB as a sim is quite challenging, so I like to prepare myself in the same way as irl (dunno if running sightning lap and warmup lap really helps warming tyres in GPB, but it should, it's a sim :); but in order to get into a mind-set for a race it is great)...

Anyone remember the SRC500? We didnt have sighting laps then and it was a mess sometimes... entering a race 1min after qualify with a 180 heart rate isnt a good way to start a race. And also people were more inclined to try to vote for a race re-start over and over when many crashes happened in first corners - my feeling is that now people are more aware that this one race start is the one and only race start (cause nobody wants to wait another 10 mins for next possible race start) and they are more careful in first crowded corners - last race in Cota showed it... not many crashes considering the density of the field.

Like Peter said, the only thing that is demanded here, is people know how the procedure of warm-up and sighting lap works and where to get on the grid (in time! ;) ) the whole week before a race there is always a server for that particular track where people can have small test races over the week and can practice the starting procedure. Imho, if someone wants to do a race it shouldn't be asked too much to understand how this works  ;)

Solved.

Just mix the backfire sound with the other sounds. My first thought was a separate file for it, but not.
In your sound editor , open one of the engine sounds, add a new track with the backfire sample, and mix them, thats all.
You have to adjust the volume and position in time to make them happen when you want.

Warlock, 1 question here... where did you get your single backfire sound sample from? I only have files with engine sound AND backfire combined....  ???

Piboso, can you explain a bit these parameters in engine.scl?
-Value (in each point)
-RefPitch

I can tell you what I remember these things were:
*Value (in each point) refers to the rpm-point that each point represents (that rpm-point can be calculated via "Value x MaxValue" (multiplication that is) - with those value and volume combinations you can change where sound kicks in or fade them in and out....
*RefPitch is the rpm-point each sample represents (can be calculated via "RefPitch x MaxValue" say idle sound RefPitch=0.15 and MaxValue=15.000rpm then the sample will represent an idle engine sound at 2250rpm - just an example)

maybe Piboso can confirm/correct and add things that might be helpful to know...

Off Topic / Re: TO A GOOD YEAR

Guys, I wish everyone here a happy, healthy and prosperous Year 2014!

and I can only join in what Max said here - totally my opinion...

Yeah, happy new year to all: plenty of powerslides, no highside at all and let's waste some fuel and rubber!

2013 has been a good year for GPB, 2014 could be even better: we all know who we have to thank for that.

Thankyou Piboso: we whine a lot but deep inside we love your work.

MaX.

Bug Reports / front wheel alignment
December 30, 2013, 06:50:53 PM
just wanted to report sth. unusual and I dont know whether it's a physics bug or a graphical bug. When watching replay, I noticed that sometimes the front wheel alignment does not correspond with the direction of where the bike is headed.

I know that this can happen when doing a slight wheelie and the front wheel is lifted like it often happens irl, e.g. in Indianapolis out of corner 4 or Laguna Seca out of last corner... but in GPB it happens even when there is no wheelie whatsoever --> e.g. watch the video starting from 2:13 in the Arvoss' video of Cold Turkey Slaughter.
http://forum.piboso.com/index.php?topic=409.msg1987;boardseen#new

The front wheel alignment seems to be out of sync with the overall direction the bike is headed. I noticed that at first while watching replay when racing at Phillip Island and going down into Lucky Heights - there's definitely load on the front, so no wheelie or so... seems to be a bug.

wow, great stuff you put together here Peter... and whoever managed to trim the replay for everyone to view w/o core on replay load --> many thanks from me!

and @Arvoss: many thanks for putting together this nice video! especially liked the pace of the video along with the music, very nice.
