Mods / Rider animations
July 24, 2020, 10:00:59 PM
At this link it is possible to download the skeleton of the rider in FBX format: https://www.gp-bikes.com/downloads/gpb_rider_templates.zip

When importing the FBX file in 3dsmax, please make sure to not convert the bones to dummy.

Conversion tools:
http://www.gp-bikes.com/?page=downloads

When exporting the FBX file from Blender, please make sure that the Primary Bone Axis is set to "X Axis" and the Secondary Bone Axis is set to "-Z Axis".

List of animations names ( hardcoded ):
leaning braking
leaning
leaning accelerating
headlean braking
headlean
headlean accelerating
leaning standing *
headlean standing *
dangling leg left *
dangling leg right *
Clutch
Clutch Blend
Raise Arm

LookBack Left
LookBack Left Stop
LookBack Right

The animations marked with '*' are optional. If missing, they are disabled.

While a script is not strictly needed to export an animation ( by default all the keys are exported as one animation ), in practice a script is needed, to set the bones' weight and to split a single MAX file into multiple animations.
Script example:
[params]
type=4

[Hierarchy]
split = 1
rotation = 0 180 0

Point01 = rider.anm

[animation]
split=1
config=animations_lean.txt

"animations_lean.txt" file content:
num_animations = 2
animation0
{
    name = leaning
    start = 0
    end = 50
}
animation1
{
    name = headlean
    start = 0
    end = 50
}

leaning
{
    weight0
    {
        obj = Point01
        weight = 1
    }
    weight1
    {
        obj = riderRIG_Neck1
        weight = 0
    }
    weight2
    {
        obj = riderRIG_RightWrist
        weight = 0
    }
}
headlean
{
    weight0
    {
        obj = Point01
        weight = 0
    }
    weight1
    {
        obj = riderRIG_Neck1
        weight = 1
    }
}
Please note that, when setting the weight for a bone, the whole hierarchy below it is set to the same value as well.
This feature is useful to avoid setting the weight for all individual bones.
Also, please note that it is possible to set "start" to a value higher that "end", to invert the animation.

Physics / Front Suspension Geometry
February 05, 2020, 11:18:51 AM
GP Bikes supports 4 types of front suspension geometry.

1) "Telescopic". Used on almost all racing bikes.

2) "Push Arm". The front wheel is attached to an arm, with the pivot behind.
Example: speedway bike.

3) "Trail Arm". Same as push arm, but the pivot is in front of the wheel.
Example: Vespa.

4) "Rigid". There is no suspension and the front wheel is connected directly to the steer.
Probably only used on minibikes.

Physics / Rear suspension geometry
February 03, 2020, 04:44:49 PM
GP Bikes supports 6 types of rear suspension geometry.

There are 3 main categories:
1) "Classic". The shock is linked to the chassis and swingarm directly.
Examples: Ducati Monster, KTM 450 EXC, vintage bikes.

2) Linkage suspension. There are two additional elements, rocker and rod.
Example:

The rocker is blue, the rod red.

2a) "Linkage Rocker Chassis". The shock is linked to the chassis and the rocker to the chassis.
Examples: Ducati Panigale V2, Kawasaki Uni-Trak, stock M2 bike.

2b) "Linkage Rod Chassis". The shock is linked to the chassis and the rod to the chassis.
Example: Honda Pro-Link.

2c) "Linkage Rocker Swingarm". The shock is linked to the swingarm and the rocker to the chassis.
Examples: Ducati Desmosedici, Suzuki Full Floater.

2d) "Linkage Rod Swingarm". The shock is linked to the swingarm and the rod to the chassis.
Example: Honda Unit Pro-Link.

3) "Hardtail". There is no suspension and the rear wheel is connected directly to the chassis.
Example: speedway bike.

Someone asked to know the future plans for GP Bikes.

At the moment the focus is on MX Bikes, that should be released this week.
After that, the plan is to update the modding tools.
I haven't forgotten World Racing Series. The new and better suspensions simulation code will be completed as soon as possible.

The long-term goal is to release all projects on Steam, hopefully within this year.

The main tasks for GP Bikes ( not all for Beta16 ) are:
- new stock tracks
- new stock bikes
- dangling leg animation
- fix of the rear suspension simulation
- improved ECU simulation
- wings simulation
- support for penalty surfaces ( that are sadly becoming a necessity because tracks are more and more replacing runoff areas with asphalt  :'(  )

The tasks shared between all the projects are:
- night lighting
- loading times optimization
- tool to make it easier to install mods

Many, many more fixes and improvements are planned, too many to list ( and some will be a surprise :P ).

Plugins / UDP Proxy
May 12, 2019, 08:05:46 AM
Starting with Beta13, World Racing Series integrates a plugin that allows to receive UDP data from the simulated car in realtime.

To enable it and set the parameters, edit the file "wrs/proxy_udp.ini" in the World Racing Series installation folder:
[params]
enable = 1
port = 30000
ip = 127.0.0.1:30001
delay = 1

port: outbound port
ip: inbound address and, optional, port ( if missing, the outbound port is used )
delay: hundredths of second between packets

The packet format:
"data": null-terminated string
"state": integer. 0: software running; 1: on-track, simulation paused; 2: on-track, simulation running
"time": integer, milliseconds.
The rest of the packet follows the "SPluginsCarData_t" structure of the proxy plugin: http://www.worldracingseries.com/downloads/wrs_proxy.c

In the proxy_udp.ini file, add the line
info = 1
to enable the streaming of the event, session, lap and split data.

Data format of the event packet, sent every second:
"evnt": null-terminated string
The rest of the packet follows the "SPluginsEventData_t" structure of the proxy plugin.

Data format of the session packet, sent every second:
"sesn": null-terminated string
The rest of the packet follows the "SPluginsCarSession_t" structure of the proxy plugin.

Data format of the lap packet, sent five times a second:
"lap ": null-terminated string
The rest of the packet follows the "SPluginsCarLap_t" structure of the proxy plugin.

Data format of the split packet, sent five times a second:
"splt": null-terminated string
"split": integer. 0: the latest line crossed is the start / finish one; 1: the latest line crossed is a split one
The rest of the packet follows the "SPluginsCarSplit_t" structure of the proxy plugin.

General Discussion / New Forum Software
March 28, 2019, 09:50:18 PM
The forum software has been updated.
Hopefully this will solve, or at least strongly mitigate, the problem with spammers.

Sadly a mistake has been made while moving the forum to SSL.
All the attachments uploaded after the 20th are lost  :(
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Please restore them if possible.

Also, Youtube videos are embedded in a different, much easier, way. Please note that it's not possible to change the video size.
Unfortunately the old videos don't work anymore.

Please report if you find any other problem.

Bikes / Chain animation
February 11, 2019, 12:19:13 AM
How to link the chain to the front sprocket:

1. Open the file gfx.cfg and go to ( or create ) the "chain" section ( there should be two, one for full model and one for the cockpit )

2. Make sure that "name" matches the object name in the model

3. Open the bike in the Bike Editor: http://forum.piboso.com/index.php?topic=1458.0

4. Drag "Chain Link" over "FSprocket"

5. Copy the "Pos" and "Rot" values in the gfx.cfg file

6. Please make sure that the chain LODs, if present, use the same object name and pivot position and rotation as the top LOD

Please note that it is also possible to add up to two blur textures.

Physics / Electric bikes conversion
February 08, 2019, 10:45:26 PM
Steps to convert the electric bikes to make use of Beta15 electric engine support.

1. open the "cfg" file

2. go to the "engine" section.
2a. add
electric = 1
This tells the physics that there is no fuel tank, no idle and no engine stall.
2b. the "stall" section is still used to make sure that engine braking goes down to zero at zero rpm.  Example:

stall
{
RPM = 500
torque = 0.1
}

2c. "IdleThrottle", "IdleRPM", "FuelRatio", "shiftRPM" can be removed.
2d. the "Clutch" section must be removed to tell the physics that the engine is direct drive.

3. remove the "fueltank" section, and replace it with:

batterypack
{
Capacity = 12
}

4. remove the "gearbox", "autoclutch" and "shifthelp" sections.

5. go to the "driveline" section.
5a. delete "SecondAxisInertia".

6. save and close the file.

7. open the file sfx.cfg

8. the "gearbox" section can be removed.

9. save and close the file.

10. all done

Plugins / Mouse steering
January 13, 2019, 11:19:10 PM

This plugin http://www.mx-bikes.com/downloads/minput64.dli allows to control the car using the mouse.
It must be copied in the "wrs/plugins" folder in the World Racing Series installation directory.
Then the mouse input must be assigned clicking on the "Steer" button in World Racing Series -> Settings -> Input

Please report if it works correctly.
