Media / Re: GP Bikes has other uses

I think you made a great system, and your concepts obviously work well (from what I have heard and can see from videos, unfortunately haven't had the chance to try one yet).
It's a great concept no one can say anything about that.
I wouldn't go as far as calling it the final/only solution though.
Strong Direct drive force feedback units combined with  directsteer has a lot of potential (can't be compared to the feeling on a g27).
It's far from perfect currently, but it is still the most fun and the closest to a motorcycle simulation I have ever tried (I'm no Rossi, it I've done my share of laps around race tracks over the years).

It's awesome what you are doing getting GPB out there and making universities aware of the possibilities of motorcycle simulation!

The BMW looks fantastic mate. That must be great with the new VR kit!

Talked to Gzehoo who made the video, he is trying to find the link.

I guess you'd need to load the tyres as well if you want to use the old bikes.
I don't think any of them will behave very well since there are quite big changes in how the physics work in the later betas.

Unfortunately they aren't compatible.

Just got my wheel up and running again. Haven't tried WRS before, but could absolutely give it a go!

Had problems turning with one thumb and leaning the rider with the other, and I was already leaning the controller the way I want the rider to move, so I made a gyro unit that I taped onto the back of my gamepad. The rider now moves by leaning the controller! :D
Also tried mapping the bike lean, and it works rather well actually! Very Arcade, but fun nonetheless. (about half way into the video)

Finally got the wireless knee sliders working! IR has it's limitations but it is quite easy to use compared to the others I've tried.

After a little break building a sim wheel of the other side of the hoverboard:

You cannot see attachments on this board.

Right now I'm working on making the wheel buttons wireless over Bluetooth. It's working, but for some reason it keeps resetting every thirty seconds.
Hopefully when this is working, I can implement it on the handlebar controller too.

Starting to work on a better seat unit. First I will just make it like a seat, but leave it open to add motion to it in the future. First front/back lean to simulate acceleration and braking.

But I'm not sure how many more buttons I've got left on my controller ;D

Virtual Reality / Re: VR Steering

Quote from: Hocke on June 30, 2020, 08:58:07 PMI'm not sure wich version I had before this one. All I know is that it was very smooth and easy to control the bike by leaning.
It seems that I'm also is given riding lessons here. Well, release the handlebars and lean, see what happens.. I can stand on one footpeg too and do those things but you have to hold back the bike on the bars so it won't turn. I know hot to ride a bike, trust me..

Yeah, a keyboard makes us all world champion at times (including myself). The steering is a much debated topic as you can see.

Could be the new bike inertia settings that changed it from the older versions maybe.

Did you take the video down?
Can't seem to find it now. Could tell from how you blipped that you probably knew what you were doing. ;)

Would love to see what you are working on now! PM works if it's not official ;)

Cool!

The only thing you can do is activate rider tracking so the rider moves. This doesn't turn the bike much though, as you have noticed.
What version did you have before?

Quote from: Manu on June 30, 2020, 01:36:19 PMBikes do not turn with the body, that is a myth. The bikes turn with counter handlebars.

If you have a sit on "tilt-to-steer" system, I guess rather than using a sensor on the rig it would probably work better to use the headset movement as steering.

It is not a simulation solution, but a cool arcade controller (especially if he is THE Hocke).
