I would suggest clearing your GPB game profile  but it seems strange its caused problems in all games

Understand what you were doing now with joystick to mouse emulation in opentrack. Tried it and i am getting the same results - no mouse simulation. Will have to read up on opentrack :(

Well if its simulating the mouse OK i can only agree that its a case of 'weird stuff' going on  ;D

If you run the game windowed you should be able to see the freetrack client and the game - i dont think you need opentrack to get it working in mouse look mode.

With no tracking stuff installed at all i just enabled freelook in the 'simulation' option tab and left it on mouse look and i can happily move the first person view around with the mouse (no buttons needed).

Does this work for you?

A proper TrackIR might be better but i always found the problem of staying in the fixed camera view a pain in the neck (literally). You were constantly fiddling with the camera position and if you move your body position a bit you had to re-adjust the camera.

Great technology (brilliant in flight sims) but i think the inertial tracking will be much more comfortable to use so maybe more people will adopt it in the future.

Not me, just grabbed off you-tube :-[ claims to be freetrack and the last few seconds of the clip he looks around the pits OK.

Im going to wait for my EDtrack bits before experimenting, my old PS3 eyecam and other bits i used for optical tracking are all up in the attic somewhere  :(

Well it does work somehow..

I have not tried optical tracking for years, but it always worked without any special drivers. In the GPB alphas you just used mouse look mode, but i see it has a proper freelook options tab in GPB now.

I'm sure i have read that a few people are currently using it, hopefully they will comment on set-up issues.

I found i struggled keeping my head in the camera view and ended up with a stiff neck after a while, that's mainly why the gyro option seems worth exploring to me.

Possibly some setup help;

If you really are going to splash out on a rift then you will get pretty much the same position sensing hardware with it anyway so no need for this device.

Then again i reckon about £25 to build the magnetometer one using the pre-made PCB if your confident doing a bit of soldering so not a big investment and i enjoy my gadgets ;).

Hello all,

Sorry i had to make new account my old wasn't working anymore.....
And it is a lot of hassle to get yourself (re)registered on this forum ::)

Anyway....
@ Sh@rk bravo !!! finally !! looking very good.
This is what most people are looking for !.. and i see you have them for sale.

3 questions.

1. Price is pretty high but i do understand that (maybe if you can build 20 of them price comes down a bit ?)
2. any chance to get gear changing and braking done with the feet ?
3. Does it work on Milestone games ? if not.. does this => http://pinnaclegameprofiler.com/ support it (fully) if you did not test this... do it plz

P.S
I see you did put a lot of work/development in this but finally !! good job

More ideas to divert me  (easily distracted) :) No. 2 ..... time to track down some rear sets. Found a good suggestion for using an (on) - Off - (on) momentary toggle switch for a gear change sensor, seemed easy to link to a standard bike linkage.

Made it up to try by threading the switch toggle lever and attaching an old rod end bearing and it seems like it should make an excellent sensor (very gearbox like action) and i even managed to add a bit of 'over travel' by adding a couple of springs to the actuating rod either side of the rod eye.

They seemed to have shifted a lot of units and it seems very well received, GPB has FreeTrack support and according to this ;
https://www.youtube.com/v/co6DBoxU3wc

using opentrack it will support any freetrack enabled app  :)

I am taking the plunge and ordering the bits to give it a try as a home build but it will be a week or two i guess to get it built up and tested. It does open up a raft of possibilities for 'rider' tracking beyond the look to apex or mouse look functions.

It would seem possible that rider tuck and lean as well as looking around might be possible with this device which would be very cool and finally be a realistic way of inputting rider data in a very natural way. 8)

Being gyro driven it would even be possible to look behind if anyone has a dome projection system ;D

Basic capabilities of the sensor chip for info....

The MPU-9150 is a System in Package (SiP) that combines two chips: the MPU-6050, which contains a 3-axis gyroscope, 3-axis accelerometer, and an onboard Digital Motion Processor (DMP) capable of processing complex 9-axis MotionFusion algorithms; and the AK8975, a 3-axis digital compass.

Being opensource you will probably find that they are quite receptive to new application concepts and future developments for the device.

edit:some people have all the best toys, imagine this setup for GPB  8)

Main thing is his comment (in his YT caption block) as an experienced head track user.... 10 times better than the commercial optical system!! encouraging.

Definitely think the 'Tron' lightcycle handlebar thing would be fun to do - anybody build the bike model? movie physics would be a must have though  8)

@DD the head tracking demo on you tube is very impressive, they are using it in elite:dangerous. All the stuff is opensource and tested ready to go.

Been mailing the guys involved in the project about suitable parts - probably the quickest and friendliest support ever  :) and they have given me a link for anyone who want to home build on the cheap, if you want the pre-made board(rather than vero) it would be another £5 from their website: this means that the cheapest build starts at £10 depending what suitable bits you have in your junk box  :)

http://hobbycomponents.com/electronics/440-diy-head-tracker-bundle

Worth building just for novelty value! As its a joystick emulator HID interface it would suggest that you could attach it to almost anything and turn it into a controller not just use it for head tracking duties. A piece of broom handle for virtual handlebars anyone?

edit: Could not help it - upgraded kit with magnetometer ordered, i will report results in the near future ;D
