Plugins / Re: m_fSteerTorque

Did a quick capture for some gentle riding on the 125cc and get between +- 100 to 250Nm ??? Seems higher than i ever thought it could be. I was assuming this would reflect the reaction required at the bars?

If anyone has the data i would be interested in the peak and mean torque levels that are typically reported by the simulation.

Good luck with the business, i'm sure you can convince the business manager and your designs appear well received by those who have constructed them.

I think we do have 2 separate camps here though, the full simulation experience and the 'decent' steering controller. I have no arguments about the requirements for full simulation, feeling the back end of the bike step out on the throttle or sliding under power requires full axis simulation and i do hope you can devise a rig for this. However i would be happy for now just to have a steering controller that gave some sense of genuine motorbike steering input beyond the left/right we get at the moment, if decent FF can allow for some feel of counter steering it would improve the experience greatly.

Custom hardware / Re: Controller.....

Ever thought of using the front section cut off a push bike, it would seem if you cut the upper and lower frame tubes six inches behind the steering tube and welded them to a plate this would supply a roller bearing steering tube, cut the forks off and allow the stem to hang down to give your swing steering. Always a pile of old kiddies bike at our local scrapyard.

Beside all the techie stuff i was surprised at just how small the steering feedback motor is in that rig, even the peak current required to give a decent 'snap' to the response is only 12amps, easily do-able with an old PC psu. This is with full width bars, scale it to something more mini-moto sized in bar width which would be better for a desk top anyway and the power requirements would be even lower.

Interesting link (.pdf) for a bike simulator and estimation of steering forces required for feedback systems, look at the design on the second page using the frame and steering from a 125.

When riding in either of the first person views is it possible for the view to stay with the rider when he falls off, it seems odd for the view to switch to bike chase when you have been 'on bike' riding.

He should tumble and then look towards the bike crash site as i'm sure a few of us have in the past at sometime ;D
usual sequence of events ... big crash (weird slow motion thing)... oh no look at the bike, what have i done to it..., ouch, do you think that might be broken.... ;)

Tracks / Re: Isle Of Man

Maybe you could try loading simple (very) large flat oval tracks to try and find any limits of track area first as this seemed to be the first 'issue' highlighted in the post.

Be interesting to see a poll on favorite view, i always go straight to first person for anything that describes itself as a simulator. I do like helmet cam mode in gpb for a better track view than the more usual 'on-bike'.

Physics / Re: Bike cooling water temperature
December 07, 2014, 05:47:56 PM
Thanks for the input, i will try some other bikes and see what happens, should of thought of that first ::). Took a bit of effort to simulate the temp sensor using a MOSFET as a variable resistor so it would be nice to have the meter read sensibly, the RVF temp gauge seems to be ranged for about 70 to 120 C so <60 is against the lower stop. Maybe use the temperature warning value to scale the output of the microprocessor.

So far RPM, shift-light, and gear indication working with temp a bit wonky at the moment ;D Its quite cool using the helmet cam view and the instrument cluster in front of the monitor 8)

Physics / Bike cooling water temperature

Noticed with the default 125cc bike that they are always very low <60 C, is this normal or a bug? I expected them to be around 100C

Physics / Cooling water temp is always low?
December 07, 2014, 01:50:20 PM
What would a reasonable cooling water temperature be? I've been messing with my external dash instruments and noticed that with the default 125cc bike the temps are always very low (<60 C). If i pull the clutch and rev the bike for ages i can force it up to 100 C but as soon as you start moving it cools really fast. Always though a reasonable running temp was around 90-100 C for a road bike, most thermostats open around 85 C.

Is this a bug or do race bikes somehow run really cool?

Thanks..

i think the pads would be improved by making the direction stick longer for left/right  but setting it deeper into the pad, this would give the feel of a short stick height above the pad body with longer travel so a bit more precise for driving type games.

If you stick to established proportions for the model then scaling it in 3D is straightforward so different sized riders is possible i would have thought.

Not sure about adjusting foot pegs and bars to suit  though, i have not seen the virtual pit crew yet ;)

Standard body dimensions for art seem quite well defined http://www.idrawdigital.com/2009/01/drawing-tutorial-anatomy-and-proportion-1/

Should the rider fit within these parameters to fit on a normal size bike, erogonimcs and all that considered?
