clutch mapping in .cfg

Anybody have any idea what 'mapping=' in the clutch section of .cfg is actually pointing at?

Did we ever find out any more about the clutch mapping, and how slipper clutches work?

I've seen a few mods that have different mappings and was wondering what the difference is?
