Why ALE? what does 1.60 bar translate to in psi?

Why ALE?

Likely because that's what is defined as the tire optimal pressure.

no idea what the difference is lol
1 psi = 1 pound (force) per square inch
1 bar = 100,000 Pascal (1 Pascal = 1 Newton per square meter)

1 bar is roughly 14.5psi.

Bars are handy just because 1 bar is more or less the atmospheric pressure, otherwise Pascals are the way to go (1 bar = 100KPa).
Unless you're from the UK of course, in which case you're allowed to measure pressure in bananas per square yard :)

MaX.
