For any moders who are interested: Just found out, trough Simon Patterson, MCN, on twitter, that MotoGP seamless gearboxes have neutral on top and rest downwards. The discussion came about because of Marquez Sachsenring-flag to flag. His mechanic was holding down the clutch, which some said indicated that 1st gear was engaged (not allowed, the rules say the bike must be in neutral when the rider swaps). Marcs data showed that the bike was in neutral. Holding the clutch is probably a safety thing, to ensure that the rider does not "fly away" in case he accidentally engages 1st gear when he jumps over to the second bike. Also found out that neutral can't be engaged while the bike is on the move. Rider has to push a small lever to engage neutral (source David Emmett, Motomatters).

Cheers,
