Linking a GPB license to forum Registration

I can't say I'm too bothered by it, as some of them are quite funny to read, but even with the new forum software there are still a fair few spammers.

At the minute it's free to create an account, and a license isn't needed to acees the forums, so I was wondering if it'd be possible to stop people registering, or posting, to the forum unless they've linked a prepurchased, unused license for the forum they're trying to access?

At the very least spammers will hopefully be reduced, and/or if they really are determined to spam piboso will get some extra income

Yeah lol

This new forum to reduce spammers aint kinda working from what I saw this mornin lol

Problem with licencing is reduction in new members maybe? I hate having to do too much just to go on a forum that I want to check out but it stops spammers.

would being able to login using facebook as many sites do do this or would it be worse? Most sites that allow it dont seem to have spammers.

Good question though MPR as this is a serious forum and not for dickheads lol..........

At the end of the day, for me this is a GP Bikes forum, and if you're not interested in purchasing it then you shouldn't be able to post. Read all the posts by all means but I don't think they should post, hence the license link idea

I do understand MPR, BUT that means a new person thinking of buying a licence but having problems with the demo cant ask for help and it is important that we can help demo users so they WILL buy a licence.

Also, a Milestone gamer finding GPB for the first time might need info to join in on a real sim instead of a game lol.

That's fair, although it's not like the info isn't on the forums, it's juts finding it.

As let's be honest, GPB has been available for so long 90% of new users questions have already been answered somewhere else, it's just finding it.

Maybe a 'getting started' or 'pre-purchase notes' tab on the forum home page would be beneficial in this regard.

I personally wouldn't be particularly comfortable using fb as a verification idea, not that there'd be any benefit for someone robbing my identity, as you wouldn't get much lol, and you have to remember that not everyone wants to use fb, or even has a Facebook account.

Before buying GP-Bikes, as previous forum wasn't open to new members anymore, I have tried by all possible ways to get in touch with registered people (a lot of googling based on their name).
Found some but it did not help to reach to forum admin (that is Piboso only if I'm not mistaking). Tried as well official website form, official piboso email, but nothing back.

All that to say: I was someone willing to buy the game, but had many questions on some topics such as telemetry for instance. I was also forbidden to use search feature of the forum because I had not account..

I was initially planning to try the game and use the plugin to test my code on telemetry, then I have eventually decided to buy the game, thinking it would automatically give me a forum subscription (WRONG). And that.... would make a LOT of sense imho and should be automatic!.

Eventually thanks to discord I was able to get in touch with the community (or a part of it at least). And got lucky the new forum came out pretty quickly after ...

Hence my small opinion of a newbie in this place:

1) Someone who hasn't bought yet the game should still be able to interact with others, ask questions, create some post, etc.
2) Any game license should automatically get you a direct access to this forum, even if forum registrations are closed for SPAM storm reasons.
3) There should be a much better availability of support for registrations issues on the forum (more than just one admin), with 24 to 48H delay answer. Not getting any answer for weeks was *very* frustrating for me. I wouldn't have any Bike rig project, that would have been a no-go and I wouldn't have spent my 27EUR on GP-Bikes.
4) Possible alternative to 1): Embed a unique key generator inside the game, to give to forum subscription form as a validation step when creating an account. That way only people that have installed the game have an access to this forum. It could be mixed with other ways, but would drastically limit the SPAM posts I think.

They're all fair points. Although I fail to see how a unique key in game would give any different results to actually using the license code, unless you plan to use it in the free demo as well?

Although if this was the case then there would have to be a limit per PC as there would be nothing stopping them just reinstalling the game repeatedly.

Ideally, creating a topic where only people who haven't purchased GPB can post and spam to their hearts content, and as you've mentioned, also opening up the 'forum search' function, although I had no idea that was even banned for people who didn't have an account

I think a lot of spam comes from "Spam-Bots"..... These can be stopped by Piboso implementing the "Captcha" login procedure; maybe it can be implemented just for new member registrations to stop the auto-bots and make it less intrusive for current cosha-members?

Yes, specifically for people playing the game in a limited demo version and having some questions before buying it. That was my first intention, then I ended up in saying whatever I'll buy it one day though ... but not everyone thinks like that ^^'

I totally agree.... Non-members should not be able to post, but linking a license to membership would mean, like DD stated, that potential buyers couldn't ask questions beforehand.
Personally I think stopping non-members from posting and then implementing the "Captcha" procedure on the member registration would stop the vast majority of spam.

Myst1cPrun3

What do you mean by non-member? People who don't have a forum account or a GPB license?

Myst1cPrun3

Speaking of spam lol
Nice Russian slot machine/casino ad there

A captcha would be a decent start, however I'm not sure how simple machines Forums work, so I can't say how easily it would integrate.

Although they're so few, one or 2 a week, I'm not sure if it isn't people typing on a PC.

Captcha is step one though
Last resort would be license linking, with the other options being things to try
