Not as fast as Marquez for sure, but here is my first trackday of the year after a 4 month break.
The track surface was quite cold so it was difficult getting a lot of heat in the tyres so I'm looking forward to faster laps when it gets warmer!
There are a few things I'm unhappy with in the video (some lines are not ideal) but at least I know what to correct next time!
https://www.youtube.com/v/npv5pN48OZE
Nice one good stuff!! ;) circuit looks like alot of fun 8) At least you have sunshine.. my first race of the season this weekend and its cold and wet :-\ meh..
The circuit is much tighter than what I'm used to (I usually ride GP sized tracks) but it's quite fun and really close to Paris so it's practical for me. I can even work in the morning and only take my afternoon off to ride!
Also what I like about this track is that there are not many people in the week and you have access to the track as much as you want for 3 hours (no sessions or anything) so it's really good for practice (you can do a 30/35 min session for fitness if you want for example)
Also good luck for your race Bob! Don't worry about the wet too much, the track will be the same for everyone ;)
Wow that's great with no sessions.. its rare over here. open pitlane is the best way, more relaxed!
Thanks man ;) its been 8 months already since i last rode any bike :o last year i destroyed my bike and missed the last 2 rounds >:(
oh well lol see how it goes.. ;D
I've had 6 month breaks in the past and to be honest I thought I didn't know how to ride a motorcycle anymore. Then you get on the bike and after 2 laps your knee is on the ground, so don't worry too much.
It does take a few sessions to get to your usual lap times though.
About the no sessions thing, it's good as long as there is a limited number of novice riders that day. But usually on this track during the week at least 60 or 70% of the guys are racers and the others are trackday regulars, maybe only 3 complete novices.
This is where im racing this wkend.. Epic track!!! (cough) ::) ;D
https://www.youtube.com/v/fqF3VPTqAhk
to be fair its always a crazy race.. difficult to overtake, its a fast track but no fast corners..
Great video but this track is really really strange :o it's hard to make a difference with the other riders on this kind of track. It doesn't even look like a proper racetrack ;D
Lol!! Yeah I know its a weird track hahaha. Its so difficult to pass.. You have to make a good start!
If not then you have to try and out brake people at the end of the straight or a cheeky block pass in the hairpin :D
The race in the video is the peak cup.. Most of those guys race on the roads too!

Sweet ! Love them cup races.
Here's a vid of a Vf500F2 Cup race. I bought one of the bikes from this series straight from the track back in 87.
Man was I a happy kid opening that up on the A27 still wearing its slicks and blowpipes. Fantastic bike too hugely under-rated. Gave me my love of V4's to this day.
Skip to 2 mins in if you want. Proper starts - Le Mans style.
And at 5.55' you can see the wobbles re-created to perfection in GpBikes ;D This happened a few times to me on the road too but I saved it like a hero :-X. Used to get worse and worse as the rear wore.

tyre deformation mov ;)
Very nice video above Yohji, showing the tyre deformation. 8)
This is why I'm wondering if the current tyre model is sufficient to very accurately model deformation of the tyre and therefore contact patch size on a motorcycle?
The tyres are a crucial link in the chain of how a bike handles, that is why I question the tyre model in GPB because the tyres don't seem to me to be reacting how they should in real life right now in my opinion?
It would be nice to see the deformations graphically in the tyres as we ride the bikes(like rFactor2 has for the car tyres), but that is not required to actually have them deforming mathematically in the programme physics.... so I'm just wondering if the "Magic tyre formula" does actually calculate tyre deformation and the varying resultant contact patch size?
But if there is still physics changes that need to be made or tweaked in GPB then this is maybe what is making me doubt the GPB tyre model. Let's see what Beta 8 brings. :)

First off, WRS is showing visually the tyre deformation (sprint car) and it may be that GPB does it / will do it too, at least in a simplified manner.
But don't mix what you see visually in GPB with what is done internally.
The Magic Formula does not calculate tyre deformation or contact patch size. The two things are included in the empirical model the magic Formula provide (as a proof, the MF depends on the tyre vertical load).
The Magic Formula ir more or less a "black box" approach: you measure the output stuff (longitudinal force, lateral force, twist momentum) under different conditions and you create a semi-empirical model out of that. You don't really care about all the intermediate details (like contact patch size or tyre deformation).
So yes, the MF keeps into account patch size and tyre deformation, even if visually you may not be able to see it.

Still, would be nice to have a bit more visual effects.

I also think that the grip on the (rear) tyre edge is too big compared to the rest of the tyre.

Well, the visual part of GPB is not really top notch in general :)
But as far as the tyre behaves correctly physically, I don't care too much if visually it doesn't deform, it's just eye candy.

That's something that could be tackled. Validity of the magic formula (the version used) at high lean angles is something that is sometimes questioned.
And there're some weird things in the current calculations that I reported a long ago (http://forum.piboso.com/index.php?topic=1922.0 (http://forum.piboso.com/index.php?topic=1922.0)).

yes you are almost right. S80 machine Regulation is only Displacement and safety's one.
many rider choise motocrosser Engine and tuning it and mount to H RS125R chassis. ofcourse, some rider use YZ and TZ one. and some rider make original chassis!
speed is almost same to GPB mods. topspeed is about 165km/h at Tsukuba backstraight (if jetting and engine condition is perfect)

Yeah that was a really ugly one. From what I heard, the oncoming guy was from Germany (and therefore used to ride on the right hand side). As he rode all by himself and no other vehicle in his direction of travel he obviously forgot that he is in a country with left-side traffic :-\ and because of the curvy road he also could not see where the oncoming traffic was riding. So, obviously a very freak accident... sad stuff.
wow that's really terrible :(

What an F*ing nob-head! They never know better until they kill someone else.... The guy should get on a race track if he wants to f*ck about like that. What a dick! ::) >:(
For once, I can wholly, hearfully agree with Hawk.
That guy is a shame. That guy is all what a biker should not be. That guy is everything bikers are hated for, all around the world.
That guy deserves an accident. Thing is, the day it will happen (not sure, but fairly likely) people will mourn him saying "he was a responsible rider" and they will blame the car/truck driver.
If my son ever gets interested in bikes I'll show him that video to make him understand what a biker should *not* be.
hahaha i agree.. but let's be honest, most of us have done it at some stage.. if you haven't.. well, good for you.. give yourself a pat on the back ;D

At some stage, to some point, under much safer conditions and not filming it and putting it online to show off.
So no pat on the back for me (or you) I guess, but still a far cry from the video above :)
well i think this guy is more dangerous ;D ;D
https://www.youtube.com/v/HkuK5IcEDDI
and some people say playing GPB is harder than the real thing ::)
Not sure about more dangerous. LOL! But for sure many cyclists are absolutely ignorant of the rules of the road.... I personally think they should have to take a riding test and pay road tax the same as any other road user, specially these days with SO much traffic on the roads.
Oh and did you know that if that cyclist got hurt during that exchange it would automatically be the motorcyclists fault for not taking due care and attention of a pedestrian road user - at least that is the legal situation in the UK. ::)
Hawk.
Eh?? lol was talking about the clueless idiot on the motorbike!! lol

Haha! ;D
I thought the cyclist was the idiot in that video...... Didn't really see anything dangerous about the guys on the motorbikes? Though they were going a bit slow if a cyclist can catch and overtake them! Lol! ;D
Hawk.
yeah he's going very slow which is ok.. but his use of the road is terrible! an after the cyclist goes past he speeds up ''a little'' and runs the poor guy wide!
he should be on a scooter with L plates lol.

Totally agree. That guy either had a crash recently or is just plain bad at riding a motorcycle. The way he approaches corners I assume he just plain bad... That seems to be South America, dunno whether they really have driving schools there. He looks like he got taught to ride a motorcycle by his grandma.
On the other hand pretty damn stupid by the bike rider to come even close to this guy, I would have tried to stay away from him.
lol
what is that guy doing?
pffff :D , some guys should never ride motorcycles, its ridiculous ;D the bicycle guy was BY FAR better than him lol

ROFL! ;D
It's a modern 4 stroke design, what do you expect! Hehe! :P ;D
Modern bike designers have no sense of styling a bike. Lol! ;D
Hawk.
Have you seen the Ducatis?!
Even the new Honda and Yamaha don't look to bad.
Some of the older bikes might have timeless style but Modern bikes look exactly that, Modern. Don't get me wrong, some of the current bikes look a bit iffy but this doesn't know what it wants to be, Classic or Modern :P
Also what is up with all the chrome? Norton are British so they must have seen our weather and roads. It will last maybe one season :P

Years ago chrome was all over bikes and cars; we had to spend literally hours "chrome cleaning" the wheel rims/spokes/forks/handlebars, cover plates and mudguards, even some nuts and bolts to stop them from rusting, and you got a sense of fulfilment from it too with the end result; Chrome will stay good if you clean it regular. ;)
Too much of this power-wash-n-go train of thought these days. Lol :P ;D

Oh well ... I can't find the words to answer that :)
But +1 for Matty: chrome is for Harley's (i.e. the kind of bike that uses up more energy to make noise than to accelerate forward).

Chrome on a motorcycle looks cheap nowadays in my opinion...
Unless it is a very high standard (some custom bikes make it look good) It's just an easy way to make stuff look shiny :P

Not sure it's a bike :) Does it actually turn ? :P
Nop ;D
Don't attack me for this, but I think the Norton V4RR's front section actually looks kinda nice, haha.
looks like the aprilia rsv4.. and the new fireblade.. in some ways
I appreciate it for a V4 engine, we need more of those around :D
Well if you make statements that are no longer factual you may be surprised. I used to deal ith Hardcore Cycles and many other companie like Merch where a 2 cylinder was pushing out 260 in torque and HP at the rear wheel, dont think thats wastin a dang thing lol

Beautiful! Thanks for the vid Vin! 8)
Indeed
Speedfr, that's what you call a real racing bike! Never been as exciting since they butchered the GP500 Championships in favour of 4 stroke bikes and then allowing electronic rider aids to control the bikes was a sacrilege to the soul of motorcycle racing sport where the marriage between man and machine
was at it's purist.
Here is another two stroke vid. I may have posted it somewhere already. Anyway, you can never have enough two-stroke :D
This is from the screamer era (pre bigbang), the sound is incredible.
https://www.youtube.com/v/31Fi-HQvkdQ
Yeah, I've seen this one before, in fact I have a copy of it! ;D
But yeah these bikes where just incredible in performance and sound...... Definitely brings back all the great memories and excitement of that era and before! Thanks Vin! ;D 8)
Shame we just can't create the same engine sound and, more important, the engine sound dynamics of a 2 stroke for GPBike GP500 bikes.... Very difficult to achieve without the right sound samples from the get go.
oh yeahhhh ! Nice one too this IRTA Test !!!
And yes, 2 Stroke makes you feel alive. Sometimes i wish my PE1300 sounds like that but if that was the case, i don't think wifey will seat for a long time !
Too bad, i still have a WRLC 430 Huskqvarna (another 2 stroke) to make my hair stands on my arms !!!!
Have a good day :D

The major things missing is the stutter at partial throttle and a more pure sound with less overtones for the higher revs (similar to an F1 V8).

I agree with what your saying there Vin, but I would also add that the carb-induction sound is also missing and probably some background dry clutch rattle and faint gearbox whine.... But now we can have on-board and outboard engine sounds in GPBikes I would really like to have a go at cracking this one day if we can find the right samples..... To have a true GP500 2 stroke sounding bike would be amazing! ;D
