JamoZ if you go ahead for a bit of fun with gp500 and get it up and running with the downloads and add-ons I mentioned this is what it should look like.

I have to say the IOM TT track if and when made available for gpbikes will be rather epic though!   ;)

P.S. I hope no one minds me posting this..I got into trouble on an xbox forum for posting a few gp500 videos..I'm not trying to usurp gpbikes! Not that gp500 ever could..  :)

Yes, you're quite correct capeta.. at the time of making that video I was at my Aunt's house and only had my laptop available. gp500 on the IOM TT course is actually quite demanding graphically (at least for my old laptop it is anyway..) so I had to reduce resolution to allow it to run smoothly. On my gamer pc I run it at full 1600 x 1200 resolution at 32 bits. Full on for gp500. I also use a Dell 21" lcd 4:3 ratio monitor just to play gp500 on..

My father purchased this Dell monitor a few years ago just to play gp500 on. That's dedication for you I guess. The graphics look a bit old now but are still perfectly playable. I actually like the look of the game in a retro sort of way. With all the modding community's updates.

Most controversially perhaps I prefer the physics in the game to motogp14..so an old m/c racing game from 1999 beats a 2014 mainstream m/c racing game in terms of its physics. Now that's progress for you!  ;)

Contentious moi?

I also really enjoy playing SBK2001 as well. Played that yesterday actually. I know iVolution enjoys that game a lot also. Got any vid.s iVolution?

It's not gpbikes but it's fun.. ;)

Retro gaming? It's fun. Who cares about the graphics? Not me.

Here's a video on higher original game resolution:

Now that is too bad I never finished my most epic SBK2001 compilation when I was still playing it. Still got all the footage somewhere i guess, basically was making a video of all highlights from a few years of playing.

The only thing I ever uploaded was the following clip, nothing special but groundbreaking effects for its time  ;D

Yes it is pretty good isn't it?

Even better in close dices..

My favourite challenge though was/is trying to master the very fast but "unruly" Honda RC45 in SBK2000. Now that is an uphill struggle. Just as it was in real life against those over-bored and sweet handling ducatis.

John Kocinski won the SBK world championship in 1997 on an RC45 against all the odds..and against a somewhat "mouthy" Carl Fogarty.. ;D

Correct me if I'm wrong though iVolution but you can't play online? Can you?

Bob, you used to be able to download SBK2001 via torrent. Not sure if there is a download site now though.. Maybe SimBikes Italia still host a download?

gp500 versus SBK2000/2001 discussions were pretty controversial in their day. Some preferred one..many preferred the other..

Me? I play both of them.. Why not?

Simon Crafer preferred gp500 but played both from what I understand..

P.S. nothing like fuelling the fires of old controversies is there? lol.  :P

Aside from having the original disk, I may have a digital .iso file of it as well. Will share it through dropbox if I can still find it when i get home.

I never experienced it like that. Some bikes where missing a bit of HP against the Carl fogarty Ducati, but did never have the feeling of one bike being much harder than others. For SBK 2000/2001 I always used a Joystick (flight stick) as it gave me the best control over the bike. When riding with a friend it was literally possible to adjust the angle of the bike with just a few centimeters to adjust lines and make room for each other. As GP bikes needs more axis, joystick do simply not suffice anymore.

No online, only split screen or LAN, one of the reasons I bought two PC's with 27" monitors sitting next to each other ;D. If there ever was one game I could have been world champion at, it would have been sbk2001.

Wow! I'm playing SBK2000 now and the RC45 for me at least feels unweildy, heavy and easy to fall off..

You're obviously better at this game than I am.. ;D

That's the only snag isn't it? No online. Otherwise I agree it's a brilliant game from the "golden age" of m/c racing game development. The turn of the century..

WALK3N would love this conversation!

I cannot get it to run on Windows 7 32 bit whatever I do..

Any ideas?

I'll try installing into the demo folder perhaps..

As far as I remember i had to at least do some of the following to get it to work:

- turn of SLI or Crossfire, the game doesn't work with two GPU's plugged in
- use the XP patch.exe, if you can't find it online i will put it on dropbox for you
- change compatibility mode for the .exe to some older windows version (XP)
- I remember that I may have had to change the Windows color scheme to 16 or 32 bit or something lower than usual --> edit: apparently change color depth to 16bit

How far do you get, does it start up at all and what type of error do you get?

I have every patch I think that was ever produced for the game. Courtesy of my father. Also most of the mods. and bikesets incl. the motogp bikeset.

I am on 16 bits etc. etc. and I have tried all compatibility settings.

I think it's a multi-processor glitch.  How do I turn off SLI or crossfire? I've never done that before..

Thank you, grT

girlracerTracey

Game opens. I get to the race start screen then it hangs..no report given. Just freezes.
