hi folks  :)
hope this is the right section to  ask about this - i just d/l'd the Syncback software and profile for keeping my GPB bikes up to date (if i understand it correctly to do this), had to edit it slightly as my game is not inside Program Files, but C:/Games/GPB.
got it from this thread - http://forum.piboso.com/index.php?topic=1449.msg19952#msg19952
seems to have worked - i see that some files are currently being deleted, so i hope it's doing what it should.
my main concern atm is this - can i still run the game while this is happening?
my guess is not, but thought i'd just ask first to make sure.
thanks in advance for any advice  8)

cheers
CapeDoc

Probably best not to unless you know you are using a bike, track and paints that have already passed the run. No harm in trying it though.

I would seriously remove the time stamp comparison setting as well, the FTP version will often have a different timestamp so you end up deleting /re-adding stuff that doesn't need it (probably what you are seeing now if you had the Mega/DB load. This is unlikely to be a problem for you though after the first run, as you aren't syncing servers together or using it as a comparison tool but you never know and it might trip you up down the line on a black day when you are mis-matching hard and fast.

CapeDoctor

thanks mate :D
pardon my ignorance, but where do i find the time stamp setting you refer to?

Napalm Nick

Advanced Profile options / Compare options / Date and Time  - Tick Ignore file date and time changes.

It aint needed anyway you are more interested in the file contents than a poxy timestamp.

CapeDoctor

hmmm.... i don't seem to have the advanced options for that. i'm on the Syncbackfree v7.3.2.9 version, do i need the upgraded version for those options?

Napalm Nick

No free is enough.

Doubleclick your profile and edit it you might see it then. If not don't worry about it come back if you have syncing/mismatch/comparison errors in the future. Just file this discussion at the back of your mind in the fault-finding section lol.

okay, i got to edit -compare options - date and time, and here the only box that is checked is 'ignore file date & time changes that are because of daylight savings time.
not sure if this is the right place, but i'll just do as you said, and file this away for future reference if i have any issues.

Napalm Nick

yes right place - 3 or 4 boxes up you need to tick it  :)

Well, normally the ftp timestamps change only when a bike is re-uploaded to the ftp server, so using the timestamp is the most efficient way of syncing (comparing timestamps is way faster than comparing content). The 1st time (if you had bikes from Mega) it will download everything, but from then on you should be good.

There's an echo in here lol .  My suggestion was to save future pain.

Anyway with B7 Data Mis-match info life will be free of these endless problems cos I'm a believer (not a Beleiber).

so, what's the best option for me, then - should i check it or not? i'm alwys happy to weigh up the pros and cons, lol  ;D

But if he turn it off he doesn't save on future pain no ? He has immediate pain but for future it should be good.

BTW, if the file timestamps were not messed up when up/downloading to/from the ftp server, the whole problem would not be there.

Anyway :)

MaX advice: keep it. 1st time you sync it will (maybe) re-download everything, but then you should be good.

Jaheeeez! Just spent ages replying to this then my tablet battery died.  :( start over short version...

I didn't really understand the first line of your response Max. Only assuming you don't agree based on the 'Max advice: keep it' meaning keep it un-ticked? If you mean ticked then we are agreeing lol.

In a nutshell it was just a simple suggestion that wouldn't cause any hassle whatsoever to him other than finding the tick box  ::) but could save a lot of hassle in the future (he said in first post he had already started the sync so setting time stamp off later would cause no more initial pain). As far as I have seen future sync times aren't significantly (if at all) affected either, even if it is more scan efficient.

You know, future problems like database differences while trying to host an open server, (like that ever happens) etc. Help I would of been grateful for at this stage. (I've got more default sync profile improvement suggestions too but don't want to bore anyone). It was a suggestion based on days of ass chasing comparison testing (more than once), that I thought was helpful  to save him painful time wasted experiences. A quick possibly helpful suggestion has been deconstructed !

But yeh, if all hope is with b7 mis-match info, (and I hope it is) leave it un-ticked, problems can always be sorted out later by some experienced member after a bit more ass chasing. Ticking the box would be more helpful tho.  Besides I don't know Capes masochistic tendencies - leaving it un-ticked might lead to future delightful pain.

Keep it ticked.

So we  agree. I guess. Right ? :)

hahaha OMG yes, now I wish I'd let the first version just be lost to the ether with battery failure, and gone to bed.

Still maybe Capeman appreciated the reasoning explanation.  ;)
