I am partitioning the drive today for the future to run more servers. I ran 2 on the same partition yesterday but think its best to do each in its own partition, right NIck?

Both Will be up later

DD

I might have an old nvidia GT8800 available. Shes old and used but defnetly a war horse and more than cabable as a graphics card for a server. (Ive got two actually and an unidentified as of yet ATI gpu but those are already earmarked)

Anything that gets a dedicated server up is good Nick. The 8800 is a hot running card so would need to be changed eventually. Nvidea is always better than ATI lol sorry personal tastes slipped out hehe

Hackspace has nothing at the moment but will keep looking. Gonna troll around local PC shops and see if I can scrounge some shit too lol. Maybe find a sponsor lol.

So what is the moving situation now?

I like using different partitions to keep it clean and 'OCD tidy' for the various save folders and for keeping separate ports for good data flow but it is not essential.

Moving; Judging by the fact I have had to yet again stick a rocket under the solicitors ass, it is weeks away still.

An 8800 is still excessive for the server and won't even get used probably.

Well after todays shit from TS3 I am pissed off and gonna partition any way.

My Start menu programs stopped working so I checked, saw Windows had updated(I have auto update OFF but it dont fuckin work!!!) so I did a restore tothe point before, which uninstalled the 2nd server and still the same shit. So I went through what I had done and it turns out that having the TS3 overlay just turned on in TS3 stops the start menu programs from working, turn it off, they work WT FFS lol

SO gonna do a partition party, make some servers and test just to see how it is and how they are on one system. Thinking about it, I recon a 30GB per partition  per server should work if kept clean. Right now each Server is 10GB in file size with bikes and tracks. What you think?

shouldn't the 8800 also be fast enough for spectating races?

doubledragoncc

8800 is okay but eventually to spectate I prefer it from a separate computer.

I think with GPB being so temperamental it is best to leave it alone as much as possible lol

GPBOC 4, 5 and 6 up for testing.

GPBOC5 Has the roadbikes with NR750,  Ducati 916A1 AND 916A3 as they handle differently. If this is a problem for anyone let me know on Teamspeak3    Server IP: 82.43.148.211  password : yougetin

Nice one DD. try to keep 10Gb free space per partition at all time as swop space. And beware the race results filling it up with old replays, classification info, and later ........RESUME files!  ;)

doubledragoncc

Well we still have to go through all that yet lol.

But I have 20GB free per partition and can change the size if I need to

This is a hard week at the mo but next week can get on learning to hold races etc

Have ideas to reduce cores and keep all happy too

COME ON GUYS!!!!

I can not read minds. YOU have to let me know what you want for bikes and tracks, I will try to cater for all but cant promise it.

There is an error on the WHATS ON thread as I will not run IOM on all 3 servers. I personally do not like the version graphically and will put it on 1 server only. If you wish a mix of bikes thats fine guys but not on 3 servers that is selfish to others.

I have left the 916A1 in the Road bikes as many prefer it to the A3 for handling. You need the NR750, 916A1 and A3 to get on the server.

Whats On:   Its just a note not to miss the IOM on TV  ;D

Didn't think anyone read that anyway except us.  ;)

Why not just use the "Open" category for bikes? That way people can ride whatever bike they wish to ride at the time.  ;)

As far as tracks go:

  • Silverstone
  • Donington National
  • Mallory Park
  • Imola
  • Croft
  • A1 Ring
  • Aragon
  • Assen Dutch TT
  • Brno
  • Castle Comb
  • Jerez
  • Misano 03
  • Snetterton 300
  • Snetterton 200
  • Spa-Francorchamps
  • Monza

Hawk.

doubledragoncc

BAD idea to use OPEN as it means if you are missing one bike from what is on the server you can not ride Hawk!!!.

Not only that but IRL it is not good to mix certain bikes on certain tracks as it will be crash after crash and stress would happen.

Certain mixed groups like MotoGP and GP500 are fine. That is really the only type to just have on the server and leave it.Other mixes can be asked for.

Just giving a list of tracks dont help at all. It is rather a chore having to think for everyone. I feel I am not doing a good enough job and quite useless tbh

As I said I cant read minds, your the ones wanting to ride and know each other on the track so chat between each other a figure out what would make all happy and jump in the air with joy!!!

Rossi Rule !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If a client has a bike missing that is on the server they cannot connect, period. Allowing bikes onto the server that are not in the bikeMOD Database is a very bad idea for this very reason because then people have to go searching for bikeMOD links on forum threads that are not in the bikeMOD database; so always best to stick only to the BikeMOD database version on servers to save client connection problems. That keeps everything standard with no problems of whether clients have the same bikes as on the servers. That was the main reason the BikeMOD database was founded so we finally got some organisation and common ground to avoid those kind of issues. ;)

As far as the open bike category - I can't see the problem because we used to always have the open bike category on servers with all sorts of bike on track at once and it wasn't a problem at all, really!  It is dangerous in RL, but hey, were talking about a simulation here and no one is going to get hurt, no? Lol ;D

Tracks: I gave a list of good tracks so that you could possibly put them in a server track rotation list, or if you prefer just to put a different descent track up each week. Is that no help to you? I mean what do you want? Say what you want DD, because I've listed some good tracks there, what else can we do? Lol  ;D

Hawk.

Indeed ROSSI does RULE!!!!! Hehe!  ;D ;D

doubledragoncc

Hawky dont get me wrong bro, A list helps but there is more than one person wanting to ride, that is what I mean by input bro.

I want to keep one server to help get shy and new people used to racing online (GPBOC6) as I think it would help split server use and give new riders a chance to practice online where it is more stable than offline and maybe have a few guys help out there with tips, plus I think S80 on Imola would be a blast and good match for veterans too lol.

Obviously with real life MotoGP going on a server for that is always of interest I think so how about setting GPBOC for that kinda of regular venue to match the real races where tracks are good to ride?

I dont think I can handle too many servers but wanted to offer something for the modders to use too. I remember Blacky and H saying about size of the bikes data effecting fps online so thought it might have to offer something that can be used for testing and other class racing too.

As soon as I can build a dedicated server and my internet bandwidth gets increased( a month or so now with luck) I can run more servers for more classes and event.

I still have to learn to host a race yet lol.
